BAGHDAD, Iraq - A rocket attack on the U.S. embassy compound in Baghdad's Green Zone killed two Americans and wounded four, a U.S. embassy spokesman said on Saturday.

“It hit near the embassy building,” the spokesman said. “There are two dead and four who are wounded ... all Americans.”

Most of the U.S. embassy's staff work in Saddam Hussein's former Republican Palace, a huge building inside the Green Zone. The U.S. ambassador and other senior staff work in a separate building. NBC News reported that the embassy is in lockdown.

The rocket struck after dark on the eve of Iraq’s elections. An explosion could be heard across the city center and sirens sounded in the Green Zone shortly after the blast. A U.S. embassy official confirmed the blast.

It was the latest violence to strike Iraq inb the runup to Sunday's election. Earlier Saturday, a suicide bomber attacked a police station in a Kurdish town, killing eight people, and insurgents blasted polling places across the country Saturday on the eve of landmark elections in which the president acknowledged many Iraqis would not vote because of fears for their lives.

In Baghdad, bursts of heavy machine gun fire rattled through central districts at midday, and several heavy explosions shook the downtown area in the afternoon. American fighter jets roared through the skies in a show of force.

Damn, I feel bad for the Iraqi people. What a shitty situation to live in.

Sometimes we forget how lucky we are to live in America.

I wrote about this on my blog. Those are "lucky" strikes. Those missiles have no guidance it's like lighting a bottle rocket with no stick. On top of that they usually don't have time to prime before they detonate it's rare that they actually detonate so yes a lot of factors came together to make a "lucky" strike.

That doesn't make me morn the loss any less I'm just explaining to you how this works.

Because that would be visible.

It's the simplest way to keep people from voting twice. They can just clench their fists.

ROFL @ the very idea that any Iraqi would vote twice.... Well, I didn't die.... LET'S GO AGAIN!
