Aren't these normally "bad" people who did really "bad" things to good and bad people... so they might have some pain prior to dying...

How do scientists know this, have they brought anyone back from the dead and ask them questions?

They deserve some pain to remind them that life is precious and they should have chosen a better path...

This is true. We should just stop feeding them.

1) They couldnt do anything else to her, they cant give her drugs to kill her thanks to laws. So, they did all they can legally do, take her off support (feeding tube) and let her die on her own.

2) The part of the brain that relays pain from the nervous system didnt work.

3) She didnt starve. her body shut down from lack of water.

4) It was her legal gaurdians decision to take her off the feeding tube. Not the judges, not the liberal media, not Ted Kennedy, not whoever the else fuck you want to blame. Her husband had the tubes removed because he purports that she said she would want as much if she were to become a vegetable.

But go on regurgitating the same shit if you want.

Who are you talking about? I'm talking about what should be done to criminals since starvation was recently proven humane by our lovely judicial branch.

Dammit oli in the Schiavo thread you were shown to be the most clueless, factually incorrect motherfucker in a thread full to bursting with them.

If you're going to spout off again about this, please GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT THIS TIME.

Because I brought up anecdotal and unconfimed reports on her state I was factually incorrect? I didn't believe what I brought up, but was merely asking about it. I was torn on the Shiavo case, but i knew that if she was to die to die I didn't want it to be through slow dehydration.

Anyhow... I don't see how a lethal injection can be inhumane. It's so quick and any pain a prisoner would feel would be over before they knew it. Right?

Who knows which of the execution methods hurt and which don't? Maybe it's easier to deduce if the method takes some time before the "victim" dies, which is why it would hurt (Even if it was a few seconds, it's still not instant so it's easier to guess that it hurts more than other methods...).

Personally I find the way animals are executed (for human consumption) in many places to be harsh and wrong. How do you guys do it, electrocution? Not so merciful is it? And fish..... I still cringe when I see chefs just cut the heads of fish to be coocked! Yes it's instant, but I don't think our "creator" meant for it to happen this way; you catch a fish and want to eat it? Let it die 'naturally' by "existing" in a waterless environment. Instant fish decapitations are wrong IMO.

1) She didnt starve. She died long before starvation would have set in.

2) Her brain functions were next to non-existant, she didnt feel any pain. This clearly would not be the case for someone who is not a vegetable.

3) The courts ruled that it was well within the husbands legal rights to have her taken off life support. They didnt rule that starvation was a humane way to kill someone.

Jesus, someone sure got their talking points memo from Delay and is really sticking to his guns.

Oh on topic: Im against the death penalty for a large number of reasons.. but if you are going to have it, I cant imagine you can find a way that doesnt hurt. I mean, I would imagine dying, on the whole, sucks. So unless you can make it not suck, its going to hurt.

I don't follow Oli. I'm merely agreeing with him on this point. But thx for using a SW reference! (Even though it was a childish response due to the content.)

Chances are though, if you're on death row, you did something hurt and/or sucked for other people.

Like the dude in Florida that kidnapped that girl and buried her under his house. Why does he deserve a "nice" death?

but they use an alcohol swab before they do it! What can be more humane?

Maybe the guy doing it should extend his pinky...

Actually, many resturaunts stab the lobster in the head because boiling it alive is inhumane.

As far as fish...how is suffocation a better way than decapitation?

Or not ...

The point is that we try and project how we (as living, thinking, breathing humans) would feel in certain situations, and a lot of times it is factually incorrect.

Hah, I never understood that one myself. "Yes, we're going to kill him, but that's no reason to risk infection!"

I love how we're like 25 posts into this thread and no one has said one word about the article the post is all about :lol

Lethal Injection is humane if done right. Problem is, as the article points out, if they mess up and not inject enough Sodium Pentethol to knock ya out then it can be horribly painful death. So it is training, not the actual process that needs to be fixed.

Would anyone know the amount of pain caused by a guillotine (sp?)?

My guess is that there isn't much? Unless the blade was dull of course...ugh I feel sick now *sways*

Anyways, I thought this stuff about lethal injection was old news.

if you are going to use Guillotines does it correctly!

The most humane way of killing somebody is to remove the expectation of death.

Tell them they're not going to die, then stab them in the head with a pitchfork.

...

Why not bring back the guillotine? Quick, efficient way to kill someone. And it's not messy and sloppy like what those insurgents in Iraq use.

a few cheap methods i've been lobbying for:
flaying
stabbing
hanging

Don't forget stoning! Rocks are everywhere, what could be a cheaper way to kill someone? It's also weathered the test of time.

Considering the fact that your head remains alive for a little while after it is severed from the rest of the body... I couldn't say.

Fixed.

Haha, I saw this thread and *was* going to post "IBFT (In Before Feeding Tube)" but I see olimario in his ignorant earnestness has beat me to the punch by quite a delta.

Okay then, fine. I know of one chef who insists that boiling lobsters alive isn't as common as it is believed to be, and he may or may not be lying.

Either way, he says that at the resturaunt where he works, they are to stab the lobster in the head because it is "more humane".

At the restaurant where I used to work, the lobsters would be alive in the fridge, and then when an order was placed, the chef's assistant would go get one, cut its head off in one clean stroke, clean the guts out, and bring it to the chef to be cooked.

Amusingly, I've seen customers who were positively aghast at the fact that the lobsters were alive on the premises and were killed then and there and cooked while still semi-alive (they don't stop moving for a couple of minutes after the head is severed). They'd inquire about it, I'd tell them the truth, and then they'd promptly change their order. I asked a couple of them what difference it made where the lobster was killed, but they just sorta gave me the "ick!" face and shook their heads. :lol It only happened two or three times over the course of many years, but still, I'll never understand some people... :D

the Guilletene thing with the head still being alive is very screwed up.. but under all forms of death their is brainwave activity for several minutes.. thats what the end of American Beauty was about.. alot of people think you can live in that state for what seems (to you) to be an eternity even though its only a few seconds of real time.

nothing beats stupidity eh? the judicial branch never ruled that 'starvation' was humane, they only ruled that the husband has the legal right to decide what happens to Terri and found his description of her last wishes to be valid. that's it. if you find 'starvation' inhumane, take it up with the government to have the practice removed instead of heaping shit on the branch of government that has no control over it.

Not if the brain is taken out first, like in carbon monoxide or alcohol poisoning. You go out and you never wake up.
