Ubisoft Boss Tells Employees That NFTs Are Just The Beginning

Ubisoft Boss Tells Employees That NFTs Are Just The Beginning

Yves aint gonna back down until their games start flopping. S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2 was just the easy mode.

Some highlights

the Ubisoft co-founder said the backlash to the Quartz announcement was expected, and likened it to initial public outcry over previous new developments in the games industry like DLC, microtransactions, and loot boxes

When Guillemot was pressed for details about what new types of gameplay NFTs and blockchain technology would make possible, sources told Kotaku the CEO didn't really provide any. Instead he spoke more broadly about how concepts like the metaverse would allow players to build and sell virtual houses, and have agency in the game creation process itself

Sources said Guillemot also frequently referenced Roblox, the gaming / social media platform hybrid recently valued at over $45 billion. But it wasn't clear to them which aspects of Roblox's wild success would become more easily attainable through Quartz

It's official, NFT's are this generations lootbox.

This will be fun, I wonder which franchises will die because of this.

Hopefully crypto will crash and burn before anyone gets the chance to really fuck shit up.

War is officially declared. Now we fight the long battle of attrition.

Cancel games with this shit and make them pay. They're betting on you being complacent again.

I already stoped buying Ubishit games at launch since last gen. Looks like they trying they best to make me completly ignore they even exist. Right now i dont pay more than 20€ for a Ubishit game. Good thing all they games are easely ignored for me.

He's not wrong, enthusiasts on nerd forums and activists on Twitter don't even represent themselves. Most of the people in thread will preorder AC:Infinity day one for the NFT house preorder bonus. EA is wealthy beyond imagination from peddling universally and unanimously derided Sportsball lootboxes while cartoon horse armor has made Epic Games more money than God. Meanwhile an imaginary slot and bingo shovelware maker is worth 4 times Insomniac Games. Ubisoft don't give a FUUU, the entirety of Neogaf, REEE, and Greta Thunberg Twitter could fuck off into the sun and Ubisoft will still be rolling in it. The population at large is genuinely retarded and would buy a used horse turd if you packaged it right.

Roblox is basically clutter for kids to mess around in. It has nothing substantial about it. NFT's have no value beyond your TV or PC screen. They're bleeding money because Fortnite and Roblox make billions off people buying content from their servers. At the end of the day that costume or weapon still sits on the company's server. It's such a scummy way of doing things if you ask me. Instead of innovating the game space, they're just trying to fit in. NFT's should be assigned to digital games, so we can all earn a profit over the large amounts of money we already invested. That's not going to happen, but that hypothetical tree or plant you bought in game sure as hell will earn a profit.

Why would they be doing this if:
A- gamers don't want it and
B- gamers aren't paying for it?
I mean, I get told by many on here that certain "things" are the future of gaming. Is this the same case here?

Gamers never want change simple as that.

BR games where hated most of the gen, yet makes the most money
Lootboxes where hated, yet make billions of bucks in games
dlc and microtransactions where hated, yet make loads of money

That's why ubisoft will push it no matter what. If at the end some idiots want to buy shit in a game more power to them. If it interfears my gameplay, i simple avoid buying the game. So we will see where this is going.

He is describing a concept that doesn't require NFTs at all. Second Life has existed this entire time. Dude just sees dollar signs. I wonder how many employees audibly groaned.

No, smart people don't want to be exploited like a fucking piniata at a party. More and more it looks like you are just a walking and talking bag of cash and they just search for new ways to prey on you by slicing the games more and more to sell it to you as a premium

If a game is sliced, i won't buy it simple as that or wait for the complete edition a year later, i have patience.

The games i play however are full blown games without being sliced. I like the longer support in games because of DLC like in ac games and i like microtransactions in free to play titles.

I don't like microtransactions in games like WoW and therefore also stopped playing it as result whenever those tokens became a thing and the game went pay to win while still having to charge monthly + game fee's for it. So i moved on and never looked back.

Price + content is all that matters to me, 80 euro games = completely the wrong way for me but if nfts can make 60 buck free to play? fine by me, or adds loads more quality content for free towards a game, fine by me.

NFT's could be bad for gaming, could be interesting for gaming depending how they execute it. If its bad and i don't like it, i simple won't buy it. So not much of a issue there. If it's good then we will see what happens.

If the industry wants to head in this direction then I can happily live with older games for the rest of my gaming life. I play so infrequently now that a good open world collect-a-thon will last me a very long time.

I'm still in the dark to all this, but the gaming industry's greed and monetization, never ceases to amaze me. The act of conditioning and engineering gamers into accepting some of the crap we put up with now, UBI SOFT is at the front of this crap with EA, Take 2, Activsion etc.

Shameless to the end.

When I think back not that long ago I used to buy many Ubisoft titles......with Assassin's Creed and Far Cry now both being turned into some GaaS frankensteins I doubt I'll buy a single one in the future......good job Ubisoft.

I like how Ubisoft tried every business option but never succeeded, without the assassin's creed formula on every game they would be dead as f. But hey, keep trying to be everything, one day you will be nothing.

I don't know why people are surprised by this? It is inevitable. Devs just need to find the right crowds to get into this NFT.
Good luck.

- NFT's are the future
- Crypto is the future
- Cloud Gaming is the future
- Digital Ownership is the future

Deal with it. Most of you guys are laggards who will adopt these technologies either way due to mainstream use.

he's probably right. you have idiots buying NFTs and whether you like Ubisoft or not...they are a business and are out to make money. They will do what they can to get it. If people are willing to buy NFTs then Ubisoft will be quite happy to sell them. If they can come up with something else to sell then they will. It's not just Ubisoft...put any name in their place and it's just the same. Businesses are not your friend. They can't be trusted to do the right thing. They don't care about anything except how much money they make.

if you don't like what they have to sell then don't buy it. Don't support them. If enough people feel the same way then businesses will quickly give up. You know the reason why microtransactions are still around? because people buy them. They are telling these businesses they are quite happy to buy that product. If everyone suddenly thought fuck this I'm done with this shit then you bet your ass that EA, Ubi, Rockstar, etc, etc will quickly abandon them.

any business that puts NFTs in their games then i will make a point to avoid them completely. i really couldn't give a shit what people do with their money and honestly? if I felt NFTs offered some value then I'd probably buy them (i'm quite happy with microtransactions) but NFTs are damaging the environment and that's not something i can support. I'm sure as shit NOT giving money to anyone who is actively damaging the earth. They can go take a fuck to themselves.

NFTs right now is money laundering scheme operating in a legal grey-area
How it's going to work in the gaming space with Ubisoft's Quartz is like a glorified Steam Market using the latest buzz words & tech. The major difference is that future ransomware can't demand CS:GO knives as payment. With blockchain systems that's going to happen.

It doesn't take a genius to understand that regulation looms on the horizon. It's just the slimy shysters that try to make a buck asap before it happens.
