DC is gonna submit Jones.

Woodley is great.

That said, Maia is one of my favourite fighters of all time. If he wins, and if he wins by submission, I'll leave this card very happy.

This delusion that Jones is still the champion is so stupid. The guy is incredible, and might even finish Cormier this time, but he is absolutely not the champion. So people say this just to make themselves feel better about who they like? He looks incredible, and I hope he gets back to his winning ways regardless of this weekend, but he ain't the champ of anything right now except his mindset.

DC's championship reign will always have an asterisk if he doesn't beat Jones. To be honest I really don't like Jones at all, but he is undoubtedly the best, and rightful title holder.

He may be the best, but he is not the title holder. I totally get it, but it's just not the truth. It would be like me being the best guy at work, but I had a habit of breaking every damn rule imaginable. How good am I at the job if I can't follow the guidelines of said job? They would get rid of me, regardless of my output and this isn't any different. DC may be second best right now, but he is the champion because the guy who is more talented and first place was also more of an idiot.

My ideal outcome is DC beating Jones and retiring without giving him a rematch and thus leaving Jon to rematch Gustafson for the vacant belt.

Lmao, then we will be right back in the same situation with neither of them being recognized as champion! That's some Vince McMahon shit.

You know...I think I like it...

He never lost. It's not like belts in the UFC matter anyway. Dana gives out interim belts like candy.

He was never beaten. He had the title stripped. And the guy who has the belt, Jon Jones handily destroyed in their last matchup. The only delusion here is buying into Daniel Cormier's talk about how his last 2 years actually meant anything...it is why as soon as GSP comes back he gets the welterweight rematch because he wasn't technically beaten as champion. Halloway beat Aldo for the 145 belt, but you're fooling yourself if you think anyone other than Conor is champ at 145 really...

I don't understand the mentality it takes to dislike DC and yet somehow venerate Jones.

Here is my mind set...neither guy is a role model to me....they beat the crap out of people for a living ...human cockfighters

I think DC is a bore regardless of how great he is...which is sad because I remember in Strikeforce when he styled on Bigfoot, he knocked that big bitches head off and in style. Now? He wants to just grind dudes down. I don't mind technique when it looks as good as Maia doing it, but DC isn't like that.

Jon Jones brings a wow factor, the dude is ridiculous and an absolute joy to watch. He's legitimately the best fighter in this sports history. Don't care what anyone thinks of him as a human being...he is better than GSP, Silva, etc.

UFC 214 Thoughts

Firstly this is one hell of a card. Top to bottom easily the best event on paper the UFC has put together in 2017. In a way its a shame this is so close to Mayweather vs McGregor as its being overshadowed a bit by that monster of an event, but for hardcore MMA fans there is a TON to love here.

Daniel Cormier vs Jon Jones for the LHW Title

Arguably one of, if not THE most important LHW fights in UFC History. A battle of the GOAT of the division vs the man who easily could take that very place if he manages to beat him. The first fight, while a clear victory for Jones, was actually one of the more competitive fights Jon has ever had. DC showed some areas where he did excel in such as close range dirty boxing in the early rounds. But at the end of the day Jon's supremacy as an athlete and skillset gave him a solid win. There are arguments that can be made in DC's favor. He's been far more active with Jon having fought only 1 time in the last 1 and half years. He also one would think gained confidence in his time as champion in Jon's absence. Still Jon is the younger, and if he is on his peak form one would think more skilled fighter. I suspect early on DC may be able to push a hard pace and make things exciting / interesting, but at the end of the night I suspect Jon has an even more dominant performance than the first. Possibly even a finish. Would love to be wrong on this one.

Pick: Jon Jones

Tyron Woodley vs Demian Maia for the WW Title

Maia's gameplan will be zero secret here. He's going to try to get that single leg takedown and take the back. He posses's arguably the best back take game in all of MMA. Woodley one would suspect, despite his very strong wrestling pedigree, to want to keep this on his feet where he should have an advantage in technique and certainly in power. One thing that has been underestimated here is the size discrepency. Maia is a deceptively huge Welterweight and will have quite a bit of size advantage here. I actually suspect he may be very successful early and possibly even get his patented back take on Woodley. The fight at times might be slow with long awkward feeling out processes. At the end of the day I lean towards Woodley having a much larger gap in striking prowess compared to Maia's advantages on the mat so I lean there. Woodley by KO.

Pick: Tyron Woodley

Cris Cyborg vs Tonya Evinger

Let's be real here. This fight will be brutal, one sided, and short.

Pick: Cris Cyborg

Robbie Lawler vs Donald Cerrone

One of those fights that on paper looks like a dream match up. Two insanely aggressive strikers, who don't even have the phrase "coast to a decision" in their vocabulary. These dudes knuckle up, bite down on their mouthpiece, and let the strikes fly. Often though these types of dream scenarios can lead to a slower paced more cautious fight from both fighters respecting their opponents skills. I think we may see some of that here, though I don't believe it will last. At some point, someone is gonna hit something big and its gonna get wild. If this was both men at their peak and primes I would lean Robbie no question. That said after brutal wars with Hendricks, Rorey, and Condit, and being KO'd cold by Woodley I have to wonder at the insane amount of damage Lawler has taken over the last few years. He's had time to rest and I think that's good for him but I'm gonna take a bit of a risky pick here and go with Cowboy Cerrone. Donald has been known to choke when the stakes are the highest and the same could happen here, but I think he still has a bit more left in the tank.

Pick: Donald Cerrone

Jimi Manuwa vs Volkan Oezdemir

Vokan has been a bit of a surprise during his UFC tenure. With wins over Misha Cirkunov and OSP he's shown some legit skills for someone who's signing and entry was mostly unheralded. If he gets the win here suddenly we have a contender that while he may not pack a big name, is a fun surprise. Still his opponent Jimi has shown pretty great hands by MMA standards and huge power. I expect a pretty exciting slugfest here with both men trying to prove why they deserve the next shot at the title over the other. I suspect in the end Jimi states his case, though his chin does worry me just a bit.

Pick Jimi Manuwa

Nothing would make me happier than Cormier beating Jones tomorrow night. But I've been in this MMA game for long enough to know how it ends. Tomorrow night's gonna be a heartbreaker for the good guys.

Always get annoyed when people suggest Jones "destroyed" Cormier. The fight was a fairly uneventful grind for the last 3 rounds where neither guy took much damage.

Also, when does someone get to be 145 champ again? When Conor dies? The guy's not coming back and never even defended the belt.

If I get this it'll mostly be for Lawler vs. Cowboy. DC who has a lot of boring fights vs. a rusty Bones has all the makings of a snoozer.

Personality flaws are more relatable than a preachy fat baby.

I suggest you read up on DC, cause that man is the furthest thing from a baby.

Suffice to say, I disagree with your mindset, but okay, agree to disagree.

That being said, where did this narrative that DC just likes to lay 'n pray come from? He did that against Silva, who was a short notice fight on what was supposed to be the biggest card of UFC history and still managed to hurt him. DC is a wrestler brawler, why the fuck would he stand with the greatest striker in UFC history?

More to the point, DC/Gus was a war, both Johnson fights were exciting, and before those his fights against Henderson, Nelson and Mir were just dominant displays. DC has never been a boring fighter.

Jones is funner to watch. That's it. I'm not friends with either of them so I couldn't give two shits about their personalities.

You say this, yet going by your post history, you clearly dislike DC.

I think it's funny that he talked a gang of smack about Bones and then got worked to the point of tears. Other than that I don't really have any feelings either way. I don't buy into him so badly wanting people on his side on some "good vs evil" bullshit.

Being beaten isn't the only way to lose a belt or a job, clearly. Jones proved that by being a fuck up at life itself. You can also take yourself out of the race.

I think everyone knows that Jones isn't literally the champion anymore. Not sure what you are trying to get at. It's simple. He never lost. "To be the man you have to beat the man" and all that jazz. Don't take it so literally. At the end of the day the UFC has proven the belts don't really designate much anyway.
