I know it looks really bad but the shin is relatively easy to put back together compared to ankle or the foot cause alot more bones and nerve endings. The shin is only like 2 bones. Still sucks tho.

I wouldn’t say it’s easier than an ankle and I’d much rather break my ankle than my tibia. I can usually fix a standard ankle in under an hour and get you walking in a couple of weeks. These types of tibia fractures usually involve entering the knee, which I’ve always hated doing in a young person.

OP should mention that this fighter was on the opposite end of this exact same thing with another fighter.

Look up Chris Weidman vs Anderson Silva. Fuck it, here's the first one.

The weird part is that nasty as this sort of injury is, its likely less of a career ender than several other, more common, injuries in MMA. Basically a leg break is a long time out and no doubt a lot of painful rehab, but once its pinned and plated the leg should be good as new.

Eye injuries from accidental pokes on the other hand can be permanently damaging, and stuff like ACL/MCL tears while recoverable often seem to recur and result in the fighter losing mobility long-term.

I think Chael Sonnen when commenting on this accident had a good point in saying that although Chris and Anderson both injured themselves similarly, Chris should have a better prognosis as a fighter due to his wrestling base compared to Anderson's in kick-boxing.
