Bah, I've been a fan since Helio vs. Kimura. ;)

Okay, maybe not. How about since Ali vs. Inoki?

You were a fan because of Ali vs. Inoki? I wouldn't go around admitting that, if I were you ;)

Shit, you're into BJJ, right? I figured you'd be all about the butt-scoot...

Well, those previously unaired matches were quick. Swick's got some quick hands but I think Leben would still take the rematch. Bonnar/Griffin was still fun to watch. :)

Ian Freeman said he's fighting Griffin at UFC 55. Wonder which Griffin will show up, the smart fighter or the slugger that wants to entertain.

Also, Karo Parisyan said he's fighting Matt Hughes in November, which makes it a Spike TV fight. A title fight on free tv, I still can't believe it.

That gif if hilarious. Bravo!

Yeah, the two unaired fights certainly went quick. I was impressed by Karalexis. His punches from guard were very strong.

Oh, man, I hope Karo vs. Hughes happens. That will be an absolute war. Hughes will probably take it but Karo is tough to finish so it should last awhile. The fact that it's on free TV is just a bonus.

I'd expect Griffin to take Freeman to the ground and finish the fight there. Ian's always a threat standing but I don't know how much cutting to LHW is going to take out of him. It's a somewhat risky fight for the UFC but Forrest should win.

I think we need one unified MMA news/discussion thread. We've got like, 4 semi-active threads in the last month or so that keep getting sidetracked into discussion of news unrelated to the specific match/event the thread is about :lol

Anyway, Hughes/Parisyan: Karo's got such an unorthodox style that I can see him giving Hughes some trouble. However, I don't expect Karo to win. It should be a straightforward takedown to ground 'n' pound affair, and I don't think Karo will be able to catch Hughes with a submission from the bottom.

Forrest/Freeman: I like how they're building Forrest up. He's getting credible, but winnable opponents. Freeman is dangerous standing, but I think that Forrest's reach advantage could even allow him to control the striking. If/once he takes it to the ground though, I would expect it to be all Forrest. I can see Forrest pulling of a sub to end it.

We probably should if we want to keep a general mma discussion thread alive. This is more of an anticipation/reminder thread for Ultimate Fight Night so I wanted a more direct title. I'm planning to bump this thread once a week 'til then and post some related UFC news here.

Karo/Hughes: I expect Karo to get overpowered too. He's been training with Team Quest so maybe he'll be able to counter Matt's wrestling and suprise us. Though I'm not sure he's mentally ready since he's making excuses on his GSP loss. But dammit, I expect this to be no less exciting than his match with Serra, and that was a beautiful match.

Okay. I think I'll ponder making a general end-all, uber-MMA thread within the next few days that we can use for general news/discussion, and to link to the existing specific event threads.

edit: Though this newcomer already jumped the gun and made an Ultimate Fight Night and UFC 54 thread

See what I mean? :lol

Damn, I totally missed that thread. Some great fight breakdowns too. I'll make this more of a reminder thread. Evil's right about the talent in UFN but I'm hoping they'll make up for it by the sheer drive to prove themselves to the big audience. I expect some exciting fights, it's just a question of how many we get to see.

“These are the most important fights of my life right now,” he continued. “I’m getting an opportunity to fight in the UFC. So, I’ve got to win every fight and win in impressive fashion. So I can’t sit around and enjoy the attention or strut around. I’ve got to get in here and train. I’ve lived in here since my fight against Alex (Schoenauer). I’ve pretty much made my home in here, and I’ve got to keep winning.” Swick interview

And it's more exciting when you keep up with the fighters. :)

Also, Trigg was never injured. That was just a rumor after ADCC. He's training with Randy among others for his GSP fight as he's said on recent radio interviews. Despite his smack talk, he's taking this fight real serious.

Bonnar got robbed...

Every time I watch that fight, my opinion changes on it. The first two times I watched it, I thought Forrest won, and the second two times, I thought Stephan won.
