Oh my god..
Just watched the GSP fight. Trigg got worked so fucking bad. I cant believe it. Complete domination. Just awesome from St Pierre.

Cant wait to see him get another shot at Hughes

Oh.. and thank god I didnt bet a few hundred on HORN. =P

=( Horn got tooled.

I dont know why he dident try more takedown attempts.... he kept trying to stand with Chuck..... stupid stupid stupid.....

In another note, anyone know the condition of Tra and Martin? Both taken out by medical teams, but no reports on them.... =(

Pretty good event, but wow... im upset about Horn and Liddell. It really bugs me that Horn did not fight the way he normally does. Wasted title shot.

That was a great event. There is some serious Pride nuthugging going on in some mma forums calling this a bad event. Whatever, I'll ignore them like I ignore Baroni's big mouth and I'm glad I can discuss mma here.

GSP, that was just about the most perfect execution of control in a fight ever. Wow, I am simply amazed.

Randy, I loved that grappling match. I loved the battle for takedowns and controlling position. And I'm happy he got the choke he worked hard for. Odd seeing Randy gassed. I think he probably wasted a lot of energy trying to sink the choke in the first.
I also liked seeing Chuck take a page out of Mirko's book and waving Horn up when Horn was on his back. If you're the dominant striker, why engage on the ground when it's not to your advantage? Too many strikers (ie. Joe Riggs) engage in the guard, get beat, and then complain that nobody will stand with them. Well, if you want to stand, then when your opponent is lying on his back, just back up and wave him up.
I agree, the match was Chuck's to lose on the ground. There is just little you can do to force someone to stay in your guard. Now with guys with great sprawls like Chuck and Mirko, you'll have to train some clinch takedowns like greco and judo.

Alright, one week 'til Pride. :)

You really can't ask why someone doesn't try more takedown attempts on Chuck. He tried a few, and didn't get anywhere close to succeeding.

As with Chuck's fight with Tito, the simple fact is that if you're fighting Chuck Liddell, after a couple takedown attempts, you just might find that you don't have a chance at getting him down.

Horn probably figured that he shouldn't waste his energy in a five-round fight struggling for a takedown that he's not going to get.

heh, crazy. This wasn't remotely a bad event.

Man that shot that Horn hits Liddell with on his way down doesn't even faze him heh. I'm sure that the punch only had about 50% behind it but 50% with these guys is still nasty as hell.

That was a nasty knee to the head on Martin, came out of nowhere and caused our entire room to erupt. Great hit, good thinking.

Hmm.. I don't remember Chuck throwing any kicks in the fight. I think that's how badly he didn't want to risk it on the ground.

I'd like to see Jeremy at 185 in the UFC. Give Matt his title shot and put Horn up against a top 5.

And of course, the UFC should give Rampage his happy money. :D If Rampage wants a warm-up match, that's even better.

Chuck threw a few low kicks, but yeah, not many.

I want to see Jeremy at 185 too. I'm sure the UFC will use him a couple more times, I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that his manager required a multi-fight contract in order to have Horn fight Chuck.

And the UFC should definitely try to get Rampage, since he's not signed with Pride at the moment. He'd be a great addition to the UFC.

No complaints w/ the event. St. Pierre vs Trigg and Liddell vs Horn both delivered. Brutal Sylvia high kick, btw. Not the greatest technically but a bit of weight behind it ;b.

Trigg got himself RAPED. He talks a lot of trash, but I like the respect he showed post-fight. Bonus points there, even if he calls Pride FC "fake."

The LHW title fight, yeah, Horn had a good technical standup game here but it wasn't enough. Loved when chuck waved horn to his feet, too; definitely the right gameplan considering his opponent.

Takedowns 100% neutralized, the technical ability to score points but not the power to do damage, and a ton of his own damage accumulated from his opponent. Horn lost the fight in the first round, pretty much. To take it to the 4th and have a pretty even 3rd round is an accomplishment.

But hey, doesn't matter if you've never been knocked out or even knocked down in 100+ MMA fights, as goes to show. Horn fights a lot, but fights mostly low-level guys (king of the b-grade fighters, heh).

It was a title fight so it better be a multi-fight contract. We don't want another BJ Penn incident. And the UFC is sneaky in that, if you lose, they can end the contract.

I think Rampage is pratically needed but the UFC seem to be content on building young stars while Chuck and Randy run out of challengers. And I still think Rampage has a ton of fight left in him and if UFC or Pride let him go, it's their lost of an exciting fighter.

Yeah, I'm simply suprised that a +260 pounder could do that. Tra and Martin paid a hefty price to entertain the fans last night though.

Ha, and GSP made him look like the B class fighter. Really, is it too early to discuss Hughes/GSP 2? Well, we know who Boogie's going to pick. :)

Don't make me choose :)

The only time I will cheer against Matt Hughes is when he fights GSP. And I'll definitely be cheering loudly when they match up again, but you can't count out Hughes, of course. He's the best for a reason.

I'm not in that big of a hurry for it to happen though. I wouldn't mind having GSP run through somebody else to keep him busy while Hughes takes out Karo Parisyan.

I want to lean towards Hughes if he's at his best but sometimes he looks like he doesn't really care when he steps in the cage. I'm sure GSP would beat him now if Hughes isn't at his best. Hughes definitely steps up his game as the fight progresses but it could be too late and he could get caught like with Penn.

I forgot about Karo for a while there. He could definitely suprise everyone but it would be a suprise for a reason. Although, I wouldn't be suprised if this fight went to a decision as I don't expect Karo to get caught in a sub and the guy can take some punishment.

MMAWeekly is reporting Tra is alright and Couture had a knee injury before the fight. Don't know about Martin. Hope he's alright too.

Also, good video interview with Liddell over at Sherdog. Confirms he had a high fever 2 weeks prior but it didn't affect him last night and he's mad someone leaked it. Riggs goes into hiding.

:lol

Far be it from me to jump on fighters with injuries, but some fighters do sometimes seem all too eager to pull out of a tough fight due to injury, and then you have those fighters you never see pull out of a fight, but then hear the stories of how they fought despite having various injuries. The difference between champions and pretenders, imo.

Rampage Jackson has become a religious dork. I think he`s lost all his fights after he saw the "light". He`s done.

And what`s up with all the Jesus stuff at this UFC? That Sanchez bastard is totally nuts, "PRAISE JESUS! ?" Shut the fuck up you damn amateur. Couture apparantly seems to be equally nuts. The whole Lions den team comes in with JESUS t shirts? Well, that didn`t seem to help seeing their crap fighter got kicked the fuck out by the just as average Sylvia.. Good riddance.

It's nice to see that I'm becoming more and more justified in writing you off as a total douchebag.

As long as you post your pathetic drivel, I'll keep calling you on it. It's not my fault you can't make any intelligent posts about MMA.

In all fairness, I've always found the Jesus mentions strange as well. I mean, these guys are beating people up for a living. I'm no theologian but I can't imagine this would be something Jesus would be in favor of.

I'd just like to thank Jesus for endowing me with the power to beat the living SHIT out of my opponents. Oh and Xyience.

Well, I hardly want to make the thread into a debate about Christians fighting, but speaking for myself, I don't see any contradiction in it, provided you've got the right attitude.

Regardless, it's one thing to question whether being a devout Christian is compatible with being a fighter, it's quite another to declare Christian fighters as "totally nuts", "religious dorks", and saying "I think he`s lost all his fights after he saw the "light". He`s done." and "Well, that didn`t seem to help seeing their crap fighter got kicked the fuck out by the just as average Sylvia.. Good riddance."

A few things about Jackson that should be noted:

-His fights since becoming a born again christian have all been against top Chute Box fighters, and he seems to have a weakness to the thai clinch.

-He fasted for 3 days before his second fight with wandy.

-He broke a rib against shogun early on.

-He seems to be focusing more on family life with his son, too (not just his personal relationship with jesus)

-He's been brutally KTFO, which can definitely affect ring performance.

There's a lot of things you can cite w/ regards to quinton jackson's apparent downward spiral. Plenty of brazilians that appear to be devout christians (wandy, nog for example) do more than well and aren't hindered in any way. Whether it's hypocrisy? Besides poking a little fun maybe, I don't really care.

Maybe he is done. But if Baroni can come back, I think Rampage can. But that's just my opinion.

I'm not Christian but I'm not going to slam people for a freedom I also enjoy. Maybe you hate Christians for a personal reason but I don't know how fighters being religious is hurting you in any way.

Well, a lot of fighting is a mental game and a lot of fighters use religion to keep themselves focused. I personally think they overdo it when they say something like, 'Jesus wants me to be champ.' But it does help them believe in themselves. And I'm sure there are fighters who don't believe Jesus will win them fights, but would grant them safe recovery.

Yeah, I'd just as soon avoid the religious argument as well. Let me just say, following the Christian doctrine of turning the other cheek might not bode well in the context of a fight. It certainly didn't work for Tra Teligman the other night. ;)

Either way, I get your point about Gregory's lack of tact.

Rampage is actually reported to be training with Chute Boxe now.... which is awesome....

There was a rumor like, two weeks ago that Rampage and Sakaruba ( spelled wrong im sure ) would both be training there in Brazil. Now, there are plenty of photos of Sakaruba training there. God I hope Jackson does, so he can escape from the damn clinch...

As for the religion/fighting thing.... there are a lot of religious fighters, and they express it freely. TUF winner diago, randy c, jackson, ect ect... I wouldent say that Jackson has gone soft or lost his touch.... everyone has a downfall once in a while....

Like posted above, if Baroni can bounce back ( and knock out 2 damn good japanese fighters ), then damn right Jackson can bounce back.

I sure hope Jackson does not go to the UFC..... =(

I believe Jackson was training in California with the training camp Couture set up prior to this past UFC.

And why don't you want Rampage to be in the UFC? Okay, not being able to use knees on the ground I can see, but I think he'd be a big hit with the American fans.

Where are you hearing that Rampage has been training with Chute Boxe? Last I heard, he'd been in California training with Couture, Trigg, and Irvin.

EDIT: Damn you, Boogie.
