When we check out the latest UK Charts data each week, we generally have a pretty good idea of where some of the newest titles will end up placing. Granted, Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake was a little lower than our estimates when it debuted in 14th place last week, but when we scrolled through this week's list and found it had disappeared entirely, well, we frankly couldn't believe it.

Alas, it's true. The exceptional RPG remake from Square Enix has crashed out of the top 40 altogether, marking a stark difference between audiences' tastes in the UK when compared to Japan. We knew it would never do gangbusters, of course – Dragon Quest never really does well in the UK – but goodness, this is absurd. At least its performance over in Japan will likely be enough to keep Squeenix satisfied for now.

Sigh... Anyway, nothing we can do about it. Elsewhere, Nintendo is performing well this week, with the likes of Super Mario Party Jamboree, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Super Mario Bros. Wonder and Nintendo Switch Sports all claiming a spot in the top 10. Meanwhile, Mario & Luigi: Brothership has continued its descent down the charts to land at position 17.

Here's a look at this week's top 40 in full, with platform breakdowns for all of the titles available on other consoles alongside the Switch:

I hope SE didn't think releasing DQ3 HD-2D in the name was going to result in big numbers.

Boy that Lego Horizon game bomb a week after release and its already out of the top 40.

Good to see GT7 back in the top 40 but I'm sure that's cause of the pro update.

JRPG sales in the UK these days seem pretty dire. The audience has declined a lot from my observation and the games seemed to be only picked up by legacy JRPG fans like myself in their late 20s, 30s and maybe 40s. Hence why the barely hold up in the charts. The teens and young adults never grew up with them or are exposed to other things like GAAS.

Depressing times in Europe for the genre but at least they still have a big audience in the US and Asia. Also on PC.

It has 80 people playing it on Steam, it peaked at 602 players. Worldwide sales could be in the low thousands over all 3 systems.

surprised to see EA FIFA thingy sells so well on Switch, I think they did n advert for it too.
It also has feature parity which helps.

Switch is healthy. I do wish it wasn't so they release SwUtch already.

UK bros where's the DQ3 sales? C'mon man
See my post above. JRPGs here are extremely frontloaded, mostly purchased by legacy fans and I think completely ignored by teens and by many early 20 somethings.

I'd be keen on seeing some demographic data someday on stuff like Metaphor or FF7/FF16 for here.

I don't think it's conincidence you have the likes of FF16, Tales of Arise, Metaphor etc going for more mature vibes so they can remain relevant with the target audience who are older.
