UK DS March 2005 - £129.99

From last weeks MCV.

If true, then that is crazy expensive - sounds like 199 Euro?

So even if I wait for the UK launch, I'd still import it from the US for £90 (the same price as GBA SP over here until recently)

crazy price... probably cheaper to import from USA... The dollar is weak, weak weak weak weak weak and getting weaker by the minute!

I don't believe this news. This is the worst possible scenario.. but then again Nintendo don't give a shit about PAL areas, so it isn't that farfetched...

just fyi, that is currently $240.

Looking at the Euro price, maybe it'll be a 179 Euro launch price?

They say it'll ship with a demo, but probably not prime:hunters.

I can only imagine what happens if both DS and PSP launch at 199e....

If Nintendo keep that price, and PSP launches in late March, then Sony could hit them close to that price (while keeping a 'premium' distance of course).

Nintendo need to be very careful in Europe at this rate.

Excuse me mr klaw, wasn't this speculation?

I'm not saying it's not impossible - in fact, I'd say it was sort of depressingly likely - but just in case people are thinking this is some sort of official confirmation...

First of all, it's not official, but I'm guessing it won't be much cheaper than 180€.

People seem to forget that the GBA launched at 130€, and it was 99$ in the US right? So now the DS could be 180€, since the US price is 150$. I'm probably over-simplifying it, but who knows.

And I really can't see the PSP launch under 250€...

Fine I'm buying neither.

So it's cheaper to import, there's no region coding, and you can get the system five months earlier by getting it shipped from the US or Canada? And you don't even need a step-down converter, because you can just use your old GBA SP charger?

How on earth does Nintendo expect anyone to be stupid enough to buy one of these?

Plus you get the benefit of waiting six month for Euro conversions! It's Gamecube & GBA all over again.

the way its worded in MCV its all but confirmed. Maybe its a 'strategic leak' to judge the response.

But its difficult for Nintendo, who have just dropped to £70 for GBA:SP ($130), so need to have some kind of differential, and would like to keep the GBA cash cow going for a while at least.

As for Euro-GBP, its actually helpful, and more stuff is having a proper exchange rate. eg, PS2 149 Euro, £99. Because all of Europe has the same price, its more difficult to get away with charging more in £

Still, all the signs are pointing to me importing a DS. Stupid Nintendo Europe, never will learn. Screw the UK, and stamp on import shops. Fucking tyrants.

I live in Europe, and everything in gaming is a rip off here. I will buy my electronics from the US as I always do. Including the NDS.

True definitely for handhelds, you can get a gamecube + MK:DD for £70 (Thats like £35 for a gamecube!!) or you can get a GBA:SP for the same price.

I was planning on importing from japan but Im not sure where to buy it from. Does anyone know where the best place to order is? And how much is the DS priced at in japan, because play-asia have it priced at $170 and I wanted to know if this was a rip-off or not?

its retail at $150 in the US, so $170 isn't so bad from play -asia. They are pricing all their DSs the same, so you can choose a US 120v version on the 21st, or an asian 220V (with UK plug) version on the 2nd December. I wouldn't bother with the Japanese version.

Thats still £90 (about £100 including shipping), way less than the UK retail price if you don't get hit by duty.

Do I understand this right: I can use my 220 Volt European GBA SP charger with an American DS ?

well not quite true. Xbox is pretty cheap here in EU, as is GCN. PS2 seems to hold its price bit better.

I think play-asia, lik-sang etc sell japanese consoles also with european plugs. UK'ers just want to be different from the rest of EU. :lol ;)

Not to mention Switzerland - in addition to the fact that they have a different plug from anybody else, they have a square flag and vertical money.

Sp0ng say MCV are wrong!

With the change in circumstances; PSP pricing announcement and DS shipments by March going from 3.5m to 5m I don't possibly see how Nintendo could price it more than £99.99

With the launch retail bargains I expect to get my DS with two games (Mario and hopefully Catch! Touch! Yoshi!) for £120.

well where I live (europe) one or two year old Sony minidiscs still cost $500. PS2 is around $250-300 and GC around $160.

hey Nintendo, fuck you.

And Fuck You too Sony and Microsoft. I find it amusing that everyone is pissed about Nintendo prices and NO ONE is telling anything about console prices in Europe for PS2 or XBOX. And let's not tall about game releases in general... at least Nintendo launched in Europe first the amazing Zelda Minish Cap...

How many pounds is an Xbox and PS2?

Quoted for truth. Sony and MS also rape the PAL regions.
