Ginger Nut biscuits on the production line
Following four months of repairs to a flood-hit factory McVities Ginger Nuts are back on shelves.
The beloved biscuits had been out of production when the United Biscuits factory in Cumbria was flooded, but have now joined the McVities Gold variety line in returning to retail.
Desolate biscuit lovers had written in their droves to United Biscuits expressing their anguish, but will be able to celebrate the return of the Ginger Nuts with a whole selection box worth of goodies.
Household favourites including custard creams, bourbons, and the Jacobs and Crawfords brands will soon be joining ginger nuts on supermarket shelves.
Meanwhile, news is expected soon of Carrs Table Water Biscuits, whose unique oven was wrecked by the floods.
Production at the factory was halted on December 5, owing to substantial flood damage to the electrical equipment and ovens.
After being submerged in 39.2 million litres of water, 540 tonnes of debris were cleared from the factory to allow for normal production to commence.
Mark Taylor, manufacturing director at United Biscuits said: Its four months almost to the day since the flooding and were delighted that loyal consumers and fans of our products will be able to enjoy their favourite biscuits again, including our famous McVities Ginger Nuts.
We know how popular our brands are and how disappointing it has been waiting their return; we appreciate everyones patience in bearing with us.
Over the past four months weve come together to get the factory back up and running as quickly as possible.
Full production has now resumed. We couldnt be happier or more thankful to everyone that has helped and supported us in getting the factory back up and running.
