UK Launch Week Figures Here

Here are the UK Launch Period Hardware Sales for various consoles, in order of success:
(Can anyone fill in the gaps? DC? PSOne? SNES etc?)

1. Nintendo DS - 87,000
2. Nintendo Gamecube - 69,000
3. Nintendo Gameboy Advance - 67,000
4. Microsoft Xbox - 52,000
5. Nintendo Gameboy Advance SP - 47,000
6. Sony PlayStation 2 - 46,000

...?. Nintendo 64 - 20,000 (this was the launch shipment and I'm sure it sold out)

And who says Nintendo aren't big in UK...

You're the funniest man in the world.

How many PS2s did they ship? I remember the PS2 was so freaking hard to find at the launch.

Edit: And I thought the Xbox sold like crap at the beginning? Cue the €200 price drop :lol

Gee, the DS has had a great launch everywhere to later lose some steam. Nintendo aren't big in the UK just because of this.

good launches mean nothing, what matters is how they are going to keep sales strong 12 months down the line.... thats Nintendo's problem.

nintendo are huge in the UK- where the hell are you from.

theres some killer apps coming before the end of the year, and 3rd parties are still announcing new suppert. the producer of resi 4 is making a new game called demon masters or something like that from what i learned not long ago.

pokemon and other big stuff should be coming.

i'm also hoping for a port of OOT still

plus we have to wait for E3 to see what hidden killer apps nintendo may have lined up.

Nintendo are definitely NOT big in the UK, hence why they are currently last in the console race here. Hell, I'm sometimes even embarassed to admit I own a GC with all the comments I get from people, who I would normally consider intelligent people and in their early to mid-twenties. I'm sure this is down to the poor marketing and shoddy image Nintendo Europe have provided for the GC. It's a sad fact that many UK gamers see the PS2 as the most powerful console. GC is considered a toy by many and not worthy of being mentioned along with the other two. When I hear people considering buying a console it's always 'Shall I get a PS2 or an XBox?'.

The one time Nintendo Europe have come up with a solid, sexy, well executed marketing campaign has been with the DS in the last few weeks, and loko what has happened...

And yes, there is going to be a drought by the look of it. A quick gander at the DS release schedule shows ONE game listed (outside of the launch line-up) and that is Yoshi's Touch and Go, down for May 6th. So there will be a wait of over 7 weeks without a game. And then what? I don't want to wait till Christmas for the drought to stop.

According to that article, DS sold over 600k units across Europe in its first 3 days - not bad! That makes it the best launch for DS thusfar.
yeah, I was going to post a whole topic, but to be honest something about it doesn't sound right...

even if the UK is a bad territory for Nintendo, you'd think they'd sold 200,000 there if 600,000 was a real number...

I'd also have expected PR from Nintendo already about it if that was case...

Guys, I really was just joking when I said "Who says Nintendo aren't big in the UK..." I forgot to add a winking smiley, but the ellipsis was there all the same. I'm the first to admit of Nintendo's failures in the UK - I live here, and I've been a fan since around 1990, and I've seen their various failures to make an impact on the charts. I've seen their consoles launch big, then collapse into a distant last place within 12 months. I've lived through the 6-month games droughts and the endless Rareware/Ninty delays. And so on.

If anything, all the DS figure shows is that the games market is getting bigger all the time. For instance, in the last 6 months the UK has seen 3 fastest selling games. San Andreas, Halo 2 and Gran Turismo 4 are at 1, 3 and 4 respectively in the UK's fastest ever selling.

Nintendo DS is indicative of a growing market, and I believe PSP will top 100,000 at launch if Sony sort out shipments.

HOLY CRAP... 600,000 across Europe in 3 days? that's insane. I thought Europe would be DS's worst territory, the total opposite is happening. I think that definately deserves a topic.
there's also no source, so I wouldn't take those numbers as anything conclusive...
