Open minds on open seas
By Sarah Lyall The New York Times

LONDON Five years after Britain lifted its ban on gays in the military, the British Royal Navy has begun actively encouraging gay men and lesbians to enlist and has pledged to make life easier for them when they do.

The navy announced Monday that it had asked Stonewall, a group that lobbies for gay rights, to help it develop better strategies for recruiting and retaining gay and lesbian sailors. It said, too, that it would most likely advertise for recruits in the employment sections of gay magazines and newspapers.

lmao, the ratio isn't good enough yet... :lol

I know a music video they could use... :)

On a related note, my mom didn't know the Village People were gay until I told her. Isn't that cute? :D
WHAT?

I thought they were just doing that as part of the gig...

Are they really gay?

with each other or with people outside the band?

WTF this is news to me, even though I always associated 70's disco as having a flaming-homo aspect to it, including Village People songs...

They're like the spice girls......they were a created band that were cast into roles. They were made to appeal to gay men by filling obvious gay stereotypes that gay men back then could relate to. They later got mainstream appeal due to being campy.

They're not all gay (the policeman was married to actress Phylicia Rashad - better known as Claire Huxtable on The Cosby Show), but I know for sure that the cowboy is openly gay.

oh, well yeah that's how I thought of them, as playing a "role" that fit w/ the disco era, but one of them actually being gay wouldn't surprise me...

The Native American is also gay...

"Rose, who turned 50 yesterday, is Lakota Sioux. Spotted by producer Jacques Morali at the Anvil, a gay bar in Greenwich Village, he quickly became famous. "I don't think I've made a point of being 'openly gay' -- I'm just secure. I don't sit on TV and talk about it. . . . When I speak about myself, I speak in the solo sense. I don't talk about the group's private life. People always tell me, 'You helped me come out.' I always reply, 'You did that on your own.' "

So as I said, some of them are, some of them not. Must have been interesting in the group for some of them to be straight but acting so flamboyant and hanging out with the gay group members and performing for a gay audience.......

Ah well, at least I can always count on good old reliable, straight as a ruler Elton John.

Time for an Eddie Izzard quote

We all know that one of the main elements of attack is the element of surprise - and what could be more surprising than the 1st Batallion Transvestite Brigade, Airborne wing, parachuting into dangerous areas with FANTASTIC make-up, and fantastic guns.

I thought the singer in Savage Garden was married. This is all very perplexing. Let's just force all celebs to fill out a form and distribute the results to the world.
