so i just got home and watch the trailer properly. i wonder if the mustache people complaining watch the trailer

It's an origin story...but people don't allow for any character development whatsoever. Sully was either born with that mustache or just cancel the movie. No way there could've been a time in his life without it.

This is content, not a film. See also Assassin's Creed. Cobbled together by people with money but no clue. Sad to see.

Why have they cast a 12 year old boy as Nathan Drake? (we know why)

In trying to make this a hit, and a possible franchise, they made it a steaming pile of shit which will bomb hard and be swiftly forgotten about. Any random person on this thread could have done better than this 100%.

Did Naughty Dog have any input? I'm guessing not.

You can see a mile off on that low quality image that it's a stick on moustache. At least cast some motherfucker that can grow facial hair.

do you want the movie to play out exactly like the games? What's the point of that?
I will never watch the movie because the selling point of the games is Nathan Drake
Which is missing on this movie because Tom Holland is not selling that shit one bit. The other selling point is the cinematic gameplay with great action sequences, which is also missing from this movie because we'll, it's a movie. At least the tomb raider movie felt like tomb raider.

The question is, would I watch this film if I wasn't such a big fan of the games? It's difficult to tell from a trailer - I think it will all hinge on how the chemistry is between Sully and Nate. The chemistry and humour between characters is such a big part of the games.

Marky Mark looks stoned or is it just me? In the thumbnails at least.

I'll watch this when I get home. But I have no hopes for it sadly.

Banderas looks cool, good fit for movie. Everyone else just looks terrible, especially Mark Wahlberg. Sullivan was like a father figure for Nathan, but this botoxed version looks like a rival.

It's not really an origin story though.
It's basically just a new alternate take on the franchise that's mostly unrelated to the games.

Unless Drake had basically the exact same airplane accident twice in his life, and developed memory issues which made him forget Chloe, and took growth hormones in his late 20´s

LOL I think you are going to be eating a bunch of crow. SPE are on a roll. Venom and Venom 2 were both hits. Ghostbusters Afterlife is getting there. I think this movie is going to be a success because Tom Holland is very popular and a perfect fit for the main character role in these types of movies.

It looks like harmless, mindless fun. Could be decent especially as it seems to cover the four games instead of being an origin story with sequels in mind.

partway trhough the ad: this is like the first time i'm begging the splash text to say "SHOT IN 8 DIFFERENT EXOTIC LOCATIONS"

Holland has 50m instagram followers. He's young, attractive, athletic, kinda goofy and starred in the biggest movie of 2021. Just because video game nerds dont like him as Drake isn't going to mean squat since theyre all too cheap to spend money on movie tickets anyways lol.

after ad:

okay, jesus.

this is a game series, a light-hearted, cinematic game series. people are being wayyy too snobby about it.

i'll watch it on pc probably, but i'll enjoy it for the brainless fun it is (if it is actually fun, which has little to do with the actors involved)

The Mummy is one of my favourite movies of all time, it just hit right balance. It caught me off guard to be honest. The cast was great too.

I don't expect this to be anywhere close, but it looks enjoyable to me. I'm hoping for something better then Indiana Jones 4 and The Mummy sequels and spin offs, if we are lucky it will be around the Alan Qaurtermain level :) or Romancing the Stone.. if we are lucky!

Besides Spider-Man, and even then it is mostly the character and mcu bonus, he isn't a box office draw.
