Under Armour CEO Kevin Plank Resigns from Trump's Council

Just reported on by The Hill, Plank is the second CEO to bail from Trump's Manufacturing Council today.

“I joined the American Manufacturing Council because I believed it was important for Under Armour to have an active seat at the table and represent our industry,” CEO Kevin Plank said in a statement. “However, Under Armor engages in innovation and sports, not politics.”

“I love our country and our company and will continue to focus my efforts on inspiring every person that they can do anything through the power of sport which promotes unity, diversity and inclusion."

Plank followed Kenneth Frazier, the CEO of major pharmaceutical company Merck, who resigned Monday morning.

Frazier said he was leaving Trump’s council over the president's response to the violence at a white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Va., this weekend.

And here's a link to his full response from the UA Twitter

Hardly a position at all.

Isn't the head of their company a Trump supporter anyway? Probably just figured being associated with him was bad for business and bailed. I remember someone from UA saying something ridiculously positive about Trump and Steph dragged them for it.

Even if it's completely insincere, it still looks bad for Trump, like all the rats are fleeing the sinking ship.

So I'm glad he did it.

Not a super strong position, but the action works for me.

His position is, "Being associated with Trump and white nationalism is poison for my business."

Not a strong moral stance, no, but in terms of hopeful signs that Trump and the Nazis have no legs to stand on: extremely hopeful. America is, at the end of the day, a capitalist playground; if there's no money in playing into the Nazi agenda, it may as well have a signed death certificate.

to me its a strong position. a) fuck you i'm leaving b) the phrase "diversity" emphaises what trump is doing wrong; aka you racist shit.

What irks me is that ceo is saying they're not about politics. Racism isn't politics. It's a human rights issue. It's a bs detour that's used over and over. But like I said, good for leaving this rich person council regardless.

Fuck him and his cornball brand. He has no problem caping for Donald and his racist bullshit before, now he wants to pretend to have principles?

LOL! Kevin Plank desperately trying to jump off the Trump rocket!! But like Wil.E.Coyote, he has a chain wrapped around his ankle.

Intel left just minutes ago. Wonder if something even bigger is going on behind the scenes that only the rich, powerful, Mueller team and Washington insiders know about.

Steph Curry should've dropped Under Armor completely.

There are better shoes out there. Like Tesla, the Trump taint will never wash off this brand.

I too do not fully understand what the actual point of this council is, but anyway good to see more influential public figures denouncing Trump
