Unpopular opinion: Kid Icarus Uprising had great controls

I always see people hate on the controls for this but to me they were perfect. Smash bros directional inputs translated to a third person shooter for dashing and strafing felt good and the stylus aiming was even better than a second analog stick. People also say it was uncomfortable holding the 3DS in one hand but I had the original XL model and didn't have any issues. I didn't even the included stand for anything besides for display and holding my phone lol. The controls and the game being amazing in pretty much every aspect makes it one of my favourite games on system.

My hands literally hurt after playing it for 30-40 minutes, so I can't agree.

With that said, they weren't that bad during the fliying sections, it was more the ground combat which had issues.

Still the best 3ds game though

I don't get that, what is it about the controls that causes the pain? What model of 3DS did you use?

Definitely my favourite Sakurai game, hope he gets another chance for something that isn't Smash.

I very much like the way you can move your reticle a bit without moving the camera, I think it's better than the usual shooting system in games

It was only ever comfortable if you used the built in stand, still an amazing game just wish they would remaster it and bring it to the switch as it would benefit greatly from dual analogues sadly if they did they would have to remove the ar card battle stuff due to no camera on the switch.

Game would need rebalancing, analog controls wouldn't be as precise.

I'm sorry, but...no.

Because of this:

Nintendo knew they messed up the controls on it, which is why they had to produce a special DS stand JUST FOR THAT ONE GAME.

Biggest disappointment of the DS era. Seriously as bad as Starfox on the Wii U.

Switch still has a touch screen and a way better quality one as it's now capacitive, there would easily be a way to keep the legacy control scheme in as well as updating for a more comfortable option. Somehow it's only a fantasy as i don't thnk sakurai will ever consider it. Still one of the 3DS standout titles in stereoscopic 3D it's fantastic, still have my fully complete set of japanese AR cards to use with it, was a monumental task to get them all just wish the game had used them more than just camera battles.

I still think Mario 3D Land is the best 3DS game. The 3D is actually used in the level design in amazing ways where it's just not the same in 2D.
It's certainly a great one the 3D made it extremely easy to judge your position in a 3D space which is why i always had it on plus those puzzle rooms were really good with their perspective tricking gotcha moments.

Eh. Great controls, sure, but a terrible input device, and I'm speaking as someone who really enjoyed the game. I would like to experience it with a Wii remote and nunchuck or KB/M. Dual analogue wouldn't do the game justice, true, but it's hard to argue that the 3DS, with or without the stand, was the ideal way to play it.

Here's hoping for a remake or a sequel... someday.

Need a stylus, maybe they could include one

They're good controls.
Anyway, sometimes i still think about this game.
What a gift from Sakurai. One of the best game ever.
The deep gameplay, the originaliy, the longevity, the comedy.

Hated it. Found out recently there's a Kid Icarus 3DS Classic which is a remaster with updated backgrounds and shit. I NEED THAT

There's a mod for Icarus Uprising for modded 3DS's to enable the second stick for aiming, but sadly couldn't get it working.

I also had no issue with Uprising's control set up, it controlled exactly like Metroid Prime Hunter on DS.

They're nowhere near as bad as some of it's biggest haters proclaim, but they would have been much better on a real controller. Game is still a masterpiece though. Please re-release it on Switch!

Enjoyed the game and had no issues with the controls, I had grinded a bit of online metroid prime: hunters before so to me it felt natural.
