Unseen64: Zoonami's legendary enigma Game Zero for GameCube finally uncovered!

Oh my god, this was like a major "BIG GAME" teased by the then newly formed Zoonami by Goldeneye and Perfect Dark director Matin Hollis.

Well 15 years later, after all the secrecy, never speaking anything about it at all, it's a mystery no more!

And it's... a thing!

Wow, not exactly the Goldeneye or whatever game all those spy teasers from way back then would make you think it was.

Just seeing something that was so secretive is a real treat, even if it's not impressive.

I think I remember reading about this in a magazine or the internet or something. I also remember hype about Zoonami back then.

I kinda like these screens though, reminds me of games from my childhood. Now I want to play it, especially reading about its gameplay. :D It's a shame that OP didn't quote some parts of the article.
The main cause for its cancellation was that the concept they were trying to develop was too complex for its time, due to technical and marketing reasons. Game Zero would have been an original sandbox action platformer set in destructable voxel levels: players would have been able to mine rocks and terrains, gaining items and resources to build new structures.

It's amazing to me just how similar in concept it sounds to Minecraft. He was sitting on a potential goldmine, but the idea was too ahead of its time. What a huge bummer.

Was gonna post this. Glad I searched first.

I think the way more interesting thing is that this looks like a Minecraft-esque game that was just too ahead of its time:

What exactly was Game Zero, how would have it been played and why was it cancelled? The main cause for its cancellation was that the concept they were trying to develop was too complex for its time, due to technical and marketing reasons. Game Zero would have been an original sandbox action platformer set in destructable voxel levels: players would have been able to mine rocks and terrains, gaining items and resources to build new structures.

game zero, zoonami's gamecube title that sounds a little like minecraft

Does it sound a bit like Minecraft? We asked to Martin if Game Zero could have been a sort of ancestor for Notch’s popular sandbox game

Always fun to think about what could have been. But it does seem like this would have been really hard to pull off on Gamecube hardware.
