Upcoming Vita Games (200+ Upcoming games in ENGLISH) || 2016 Edition ||

I don't really feel that way because it seems like for every cancellation you listed we've gotten an even better annoucement.

I mean, it's certainly a rollercoaster ride being a Vita fan haha. As silly as it sounds, for me one of the funnest things about being a fan is that it's this under-rated console that most people hate and few people buy, yet it just keeps getting game after game and seems like it'll never die. It's truly the underdog that keeps on giving.

But it's just, in the past we'd see some peripheral cancellations that were neither here nor there, but the stuff is getting much more high profile as time goes on. Digimon is a really big deal for me, because it's probably among my most anticipated localizations alongside Exist Archive and Tokyo Xanadu.

And it means I can't really get excited about things like TGS anymore, because I'll always think "oh, this game will probably be PS4-exclusive in the west"

Still, I can't complain too much. There's already a tonne of games I plan to buy in 2017 lol (Bad Apple Wars; Caligula; Collar x Malice; God Wars; Narcissu; Summon Night 6; Tokyo Xanadu) so I'll still be gaming for some time at least.

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2016/09/15/shu-re-emerges-as-a-beautiful-2-5d-platformer-out-104/

Shu pushed back to Q4 2016, PS4 version releasing on 04/10. However:

Support for PS Vita is something that we feel very strongly about, and we have been working hard to provide a comparable experience on both platforms. Shu feels right at home on the Vita and offers a great experience. To show our commitment to bringing Shu to Vita we have developed some exclusive content that will only be available on the handheld. Shu will also feature a platinum trophy on both PS4 and PS Vita, and yes, it will be Cross Buy enabled!

People don't *hate* the Vita. Most people just don't care for it.

Also, with the whole indie hype (and publishers accomodating to that), the "digital age", and the availability of middleware such as Unity it's easier than ever to publish games across multiple platforms. That contributes a lot to the Vita getting as many ports as it does. Same goes for all the indie games the Wii U is getting, btw. If other "underdog systems" in the past had had those same circumstances, they'd likely gotten a lot more games too.

Very few games seem to get developed specifically for the Vita though. Which, performance wise (frames per second etc), is not always good news. And it's an indicator of Vita releases being more of an afterthought rather than a priority to publishers.

So there is good reason not to be too optimistic about the "state of the Vita".

It's clearly not a complete disaster, and will likely be getting new releases for a couple more years. But I think it's not an exaggeration to say that the system is past its prime already.

There are still some pending localization announcements. I'm not sure which ones we'll get but I feel like time is running out for Vita in west, Sony could euthanize the system any moment now because of the hack.

Hero Must Die
Coven and the Labyrinth of Refrain
Divine Prison Tower: Mary Skelter
SaGa Scarlet Grace
Dragon Quest Heroes II
Macross Delta (lol)
Net High
Uppers
Demon Gaze II
Atelier Shallie Plus
Dynasty Warriors Eikkitsuden
Princess is Money Hungry
Idol Death Game TV
Drive Girls

It's clearly not a complete disaster, and will likely be getting new releases for a couple more years. But I think it's not an exaggeration to say that the system is past its prime already.

People are (me included) are panicking because Vita slowly dies but there is no successor system in sight. Both handheld systems are past their prime but it kinda feels like whole market is dying with them, the handheld business is disappearing without no reason. And the worst part is there are no place for handhelds fans like me to migrate to, as the biggest platform right now is PS4, there is nowhere else to go. Both Vita and 3DS will complete their runs after first half of 2017, and unless Nintendo comes up with new handheld, gaming will return to pre Gameboy times where you have to be home to enjoy games. That's why Nintendo has to save us, because we have to move on.

Most of them you can import and enjoy it anyway.

With quite a lot of these games I end up waiting for at least a year just in case they get a localization. I still only just picked up Ukiyo no Roushi lol.

Of 18-Volt's list, I think only Macross is a safe bet for "definitely never coming west".

I'd question how importable Coven; Mary Skelter; SaGa; Net High; Demon Gaze; Atelier Shallie & Idol Death are.

Generally I find Bandai Namco's anime licenced games are easy imports though. Aside from VN sections which you'll have to use google translate on, everything else is really easy to pick up and most of them are full of gameplay.

I know I've been a downer on Vita in the past and undoubtedly will be again in the future, but it really has been a shitty year for Vita announcements huh?

- Chronos Materia cancelled
- Crows Burning Edge cancelled
- No Digimon for Vita in the west
- Energy Hook cancelled (bullet dodged on that one by the sounds of it though)
- Four Sided Fantasy cancelled
- Hyper Light Drifter cancelled
- No I am Setsuna for Vita in the west
- Moon Hunters cancelled
- No Nights of Azure for Vita in the west
- No Nobunaga's Ambition for Vita in the west
- Never Alone cancelled
- Not a Hero cancelled
- Space Dave cancelled

Of all of the announcements I think Digimon hurts the most, it was the one I was most looking forward to. Hyper Light Drifter and Nights of Azure really suck too.

Just need Koei-Tecmo to pick the scab off by announcing Toukiden etc. aren't coming and Atelier Shallie won't get picked up lol.

(Don't get me wrong, there's still been plenty of awesome announcements too - wasn't expecting Caligula; Gio picking up SNK games is ace; Sekai Project finally getting on board is great etc., it's just been a bummer of a year).

Also Too Much Kickstarter Promises BS this year, The bolded ones i certainly dont missed them and to be honest the incredible amount of announcements the vita had this past 3 years and lost of those games we do not know if they are coming or not, i can see the relation with the increase in the numbers of cancelled games.

I have to disagree though because TGS this wasnt bad at all
Hell, the year was really good for being the "last year of the system" for a lot of people
We have 2 new colored Vitas in Japan,
We have more Square enix games , i mean we have Adventures of mana ,then we will have dragon quest builders and world of final fantasy,
We have impossible localizations of super niche japanese games such as CG 2, Gal Gun etc
We have more and more Support form Koei Tecmo
We have more indie games than ever , releasing almost every week.
We even had some temporary exclusives like severed and some really good indie titles like axiom verge.
We have confirmation for games on 2017 already which is pretty good considering this is a system in its last years of life. We have more PSP titles compatible with the system such as Valkyrie chronicles 2 and Metal Gear Portable Ops (im talking from a NA point of view here)

There is a lot of games that will be cancelled , We dont have any updates on a lot of them . games that like snapshot or even maybe gyossait (which i am the only one waiting for this probably) will maybe never get a release.

I mean yeah maybe not the best year for Vita but i think is not even near to be the worst.

I mean yeah maybe not the best year for Vita but i think is not even near to be the worst.

Again, I'm not saying it's been a bad year for Vita itself, or that it's going to be bad going forward. I mean, we got three western-made "surprises" this year that gave a really nice injection of variety into Vita's library (AC; Civ; XCOM).

But it's just the lost potential. It's one thing seeing games like I dunno, Persona 5 and thinking "ooh that'd be great on Vita" but it was never announced so you're not too bothered about it. It's another thing when the game exists in Japan, then is being translated for another console and they can't even be bothered sticking the translation in the game and putting it up on PSN.

Oh well. No point getting worked up about it I guess.

Hey, even Kotaku getting on board with the cause lol:

http://kotaku.com/digimon-world-next-order-is-coming-to-north-america-b-1786663408

That third comment has a point. Would Eisenbeis have sunk so much time into the Japanese release if he had to sit in front of his television the whole time? Probably, but he wouldn’t have enjoyed it nearly as much. Here’s hoping Bandai Namco decides to release at least a digital version of Next Order on the Vita as well, instead of just the upscaled console port.

Oh, and there is Valkyrie Azure Revolution too. I'm sure it'll come here because of based Atlus. It's not like Atlus to skip a version of a game. And since glorious Media.Vision is behind the game, I don't think Vita version will suffer from technical hiccups. Announcement should come after the Japanese release of the game as usual.

I'm a bit surprised with how people are upset with this year's and the future Vita line up, as honestly.....really enjoyed the releases this year so far.

Indie support has been fantastic with games like Rocketbirds 2, Steamworld Heist & 10 Second Ninja X being personal favorites this year and big retail titles like Grand Kingdom being great gems on the platform.

Plus we got a lot coming to Vita still between this year & 2017 (Berserk, SAO, Exist Archive, Tokyo Xandeu, ect). I tend to be the positive thinker here I feel but I have little to no issues with the Vita's future and current line up.

While the recently released hack can sadly throw a wrench into future localizations/releases, I doubt it will have that much impact (I had to search about it, when normally I hear about this discussed right away with other gaming news.....and I REPORT on gaming news since early summer!).

Just happy the Vita is still getting stuff and even if it 'dies' next year, at least it had a damn good run.

Please let's stop once and for all this fiction that they are $25 releases. They aren't. Some of them cost me over $60 (having bought all of them directly from LRG). And none of them are Collector's Editions in the sense that they are pretty much barebone releases. So comparing their price points directly is just unfair.

What fiction? These games so far are $25 (+ $5 shipping) in the US. If you're getting screwed on import fees and paying double then maybe stop buying each and every release, especially if you feel like certain releases aren't worth it? I mean if you willingly screw yourself and then come and complain that a release wasn't worth so and so because you had to import it, then who's fault is it really?

2 things

1 - The hack doesn't allow you to run Vita games per se but people will be able to use the native vita power to create homebrews

2- Im curious about the 10 Second Ninja X comment , is this game that good? im actually interested , i though was yet another ipad type of game(this is not sarcasm or anything like that im really interested to know )

Honestly, I'm not really upset because I wouldn't be getting most of the cancelled games anyway (backed HLD, refund is on the way, if it end up getting ported I'll but it). Even Digimon - I love Digimon, loved Cyber Sleuth, but Digimon World's system just isn't for me. Being selfish, I know, but then I don't feel like I have the right to complain about the cancellations, nor about people getting upset.

Still have plenty of things to look forward next year, some of which you listed, so I'm good.

Granted, I'll be effin pissed if Toukiden 2 doesn't make over for Vita. Would probably get the PS4 version day one because I'm a Toukiden sucker (even if remote play controls are wonky from what I tried with the JP demo), but I'd be as annoyed as everyone now is with the "cancelation spree".

I thought that someone got hacked versions of the Adventure time Vita game & Tokyo Xanduo on Vita.....

But I really liked 10 Second Ninja X and gave it a high review score here.

So it's not a $25 release even to you, because you actually paid $30? Some games, like Oddworld, weren't even $25 w/o shipping.,

I'm not "willingly' screwing myself over". I knew what I was getting into, and I was fine with it. And I haven't said anything about those games being worth it or not.

Fact of the matter is that to many people they are not $30 releases, so I don't know why you would even insist on continuing to spread this fiction.

Those might not be $30 dollars games , but Limited Releases are always higher in price. This is a physical thing you are buying, not only the game.

I never questioned the price point. I questioned the apparent need of some people to call LRG games $25 games, even when they clearly aren't.

But might report on that Vita piracy thing once I look into it more.....this needs to be addressed and talked about to shut it down fast.
There's nothing they can do to shut it down.
No amount of addressing and reporting will change that - If anything giving it more attention will probably just make more people try it.

Sony have already done all they can do -- they issued updated firmware that stopped the exploits working. The flaw has been fixed -- at least insofar as they're capable of fixing it. You can't force updates, and nothing can change that for people who remain on that firmware.

The fact that some people will choose not to update their firmware and will choose to stay on 3.60 for whatever reason isn't something they can change... and nor is what the people who do stay there do.

If it's happening, it's happening. You can't put that genie back in the bottle.

That is a very good point. At least Sony tried to push it down while they still had the chance.

Also please stop calling full price retail console games $60 games. Because some people have to pay for gas and sales tax.

You're obviously just trolling, because you can't help yourself.

But NOBODY is actually paying $25 for any LRG game, whereas there are actually plenty of people who pay $60 or less for "$60 retail games".

No problem :).

It really sours on the prospects of Vita localization in regions with historical rampant piracy like Asia, which is bad news for me. SIE Asia has skipped localization for platforms with piracy before like on PS3.

Fortunately I can still get WoFF in Chinese language now, but it might not be the case for future Vita releases.

I have confidence it will go well. As a single developer I focus 1 platform at a time. Thanks for your patience.

Lol.

Regarding Digimon:

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=217010184&postcount=172

According to Meristation (on of the oldest videogame outlets in spanish) the game is only seeing a PS4 port due all the improvements done using the PS4 power. A massive graphic overhaul being the biggest change. Meristation says that where it was just sky in the background for the vita version, on the PS4 version they added buildings and background elements to enrich thr scenery.

It also says there is multiple difficulty levels, 12 new digimon and more than 30 new quests

I'd be miffed if we didn't get the additional content. I couldn't care less about non-interactive background scenery.

Despite that "massive graphics overhaul," the game still looks 10 years out of date on PS4. There are still loads of very apparent low res textures and poly starved models.

At this stage, I wouldn't. I'm not going to have the time to play a meaty JRPG like this on consoles any more, extra content or not. I'd be happy with the base game on Vita.

And yes, I was quite amused browsing through the Gematsu gallery and thinking "they didn't boost the graphics that much"

Digimon still coming to Vita now? lmao

http://gematsu.com/2016/09/digimon-world-next-order-coming-west-ps4-ps-vita-early-2017
Bandai Namco will bring Digimon World: Next Order to North America and Europe for PlayStation 4 and PS Vita in early 2017, the publisher announced. In both North America and Europe, it will be released physically and digitally for PlayStation 4, and digitally for PS Vita.

(Editor’s Note: This post was originally published on September 14 at 9:00 p.m. Bandai Namco sent Gematsu an updated press release at 5:00 p.m. on September 15, clarifying mistakes in the original press release sent out on September 14. The original press release indicated a PlayStation 4-only, digital-only release.)

This is beyond comprehension. Either they severely underestimated the hate they'd get and course corrected in record time, or Bandai Namco's public relations people are horrible at their jobs. I don't understand how you could have such a huge communications failure that affects press releases, social media posts and trailers for North America, Europe and SEA. I can understand accidentally the whole thing in a PR and no one proof reading, but all of that? For three different markets?

What an absolute farce this has been, rofl. Like I seriously can't believe how you'd fail so badly at PR, twice.

Still, I'm thrilled that I can buy the game on Vita. And it's 2017, so I have months to pester Bamco SEA for a physical version.

Not sure whether I should be baffled by the clusterfuck they created or praise them for an amazingly quick turnaround...
