Upgrade the phone every two years. Although to be honest my 4S is still working fine and unless they really wow me with the new phone or the OS this year I may consider skipping it to save the cash used to upgrade. All really depends on how much I can get for my phone when the flood of 4S phones hit the used market.

As for tablets, I have a iPad2 that was sold to me by my brother. I couldn't justify paying full price for one of them considering I only use it to sit on the couch and look something up or browse GAF.

I'll probably upgrade my iphone later this year as I'm on a 4S but it's starting to significantly slow down, though I'll keep it around for travel purposes. Still a great phone and though my mom actually likes her W7 phone, I'll also keep it in case she wants to switch to it.

My ipad 3 is chugging along just fine though the only reason I see to upgrade is space, but I can hold out for a while. Most likely my ipad 3 will go to my mom if/when I upgrade.
