Lum... UY... generic?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

What the HOLY **** IS WRONG WITH YOU OLI?!?!?!?!?

Lum > * . That is fact. Calling it generic is about as retarded as you can get.

Oli sucks for not knowing anything about Rumiko Takahashi. However I must thank him for making a thread for a game as awesome as this.

This game wins on many levels, and NEEDS to be localized, ASAP.

You should mean "reading". The manga is less "generic" in many ways.

No, I meant "watching". The Sailor Moon MANGA has wonderful art by its creator, Takeuchi Naoko. The anime has a generic(by 1992 standards) look.

Wow. One of the moderators (sp0rsk?) must really like Urusei Yatsura to not only rename this thread but also ban olimario.

In honor of this, I am changing my avatar to a dappya monster.

I always had a soft spot for Shinobu. I'm sure she'd have worn a tiger stripe bikini if Ataru wanted.

Also in honour of this thread I am returning my previous avatar.

:lol olimario got banned for calling that generic looking? Honestly, tho, if I didn't know that was Lum beforehand, I could easily think it was a cast member of Inu Yasha or Pokemon.

But still, I'm not going to argue it. :lol

Damn, saying you don't like the artwork is one thing, but "generic" is quite possibly the most retarded thing he could have said. This anime created the genre.

It's like saying Alfred Hitchcock's movies were generic.

Now, I'm going to have to admit ignorance here...but what genre are you speaking of?

Yeah, but then he kept arguing it and made an ass of himself. You do know that Takahashi also created Inu Yasha too, right? :)

Ranma was very funny, liked it quite a lot but i've only seen the anime and i've been told that it never reached the ending....

You talking about Ranma's ending?

Yeah, the anime series ended a few years before the manga series did, as is usually the case with long series. The manga is also MUUUUUCH better, as is also usually the case. ;)

Ranma 1/2's ending is basically what you'd expect would happen:
Ranma and Akane are about to get married, but then all of Ranma's other "fiances" bust in and chase him off. Ranma and Akane decide to wait to get married until they finish school. The end.
I think Takahashi has a hard time with endings, although Maison Ikkoku ended well.

:lol That makes sense, then.

'course, it also points out that guy as someone with a defined catgirl fetish.

You sure you're into Lupin III, or is it just a cool avatar? ;)

Lupin rox, but I won't even start to say I comprehend the "romantic" genre.

Ben Sones said:
Inu-Yasha is actually a dog, not a cat.
Lum doesn't have cat ears, either--those are horns.

That much I wasn't aware of. And I've watched pletny of eps of Inu Yasha. (I use Catgirl as a catchall term for catpeople) :p

Guess I learn something new every day. :)

Calling Urusei Yatsura "romantic" is pushing it. The stories are more often about perverted boys trying to have sex with neurotic girls and failing painfully.

Which is why I "quoted" it. ;)

yeah. Pretty similar to Ranma in that respect. Its just knock-about fun.

Maison Ikkoku is more romantic I guess. I should catch up on the manga, only ever read a few volumes. how many are there in the full set?

So anyway, getting back to the game--is this just a Choose-Your-Adventure book in game form with various static images here and there?

82 posts and someone wants to talk about the game.

It looks like it's probably like that, yeah. Talk to the guys who play all those Hentai games in that other thread. They probably know the deal.

I think the issue is that Oli was just being a dumb shit and/or was creating a pointless argument to rile up people. Any anime fan worth his shit should be able to recognize Lum, since the character has been in use for almost 30 years

Urusei sounds familiar. Doesn't that mean 'ugly' ?

Nope. "Urusei" in this title is a play on words of "urusai", which means noisy/obnoxious. "Yatsura" means guys. So the title means obnoxious guys. The "sei" in "Urusei" in Kanji means Star, implying the guys are from space. So the title in english = obnoxious space people = "Those Obnoxious Aliens".

Phew.

In that case, how do you say 'ugly' in Japanese?

just to clarify, olimarios ban would constitute under

dditionally, bans are not necessarily precipitated in their entirety by a single violative event. The sum of actions leading up to a memberÂ’s removal is taken into account, so what may appear to be a minor breach of conduct may actually be the final occurrence in a long string of offenses.

this part of the TOS.

"busu" = "ugly"

Not something nice to say. :P

And sp0rsk, how many people have you banned over the years? And I thought I was going to get the "1 week trend" tag after the 3 months ban. Oh well, got banned for nothing. :(

i dont ban that often, i usually let people get away with shit for a while. In your case you just outlived your welcome faster than most.

haha I see. At least tell the people you ban about how long is the ban. It was annoying to not know that lol.

Still haven't found any clear answers on what the hell the game is, other than the speculation from Juice (thanks :)).

'course, you guys are more concerned about talking in japanese and making fun of olimario to be concerned about the real topic of the thread.

Exactly. You're the only one that doesn't get it.

Get "what?" The fact that GAF increasingly talks about personalities and circle-jerk topics instead of games?

Honestly, all I'm looking for is a description of wtf the game plays like. :p

Uh, as an Urusei Yatsura fan I'd like to clear up a misconception here. UY is not like modern romantic lonely-boy anime at all. In those kind of series, the main character is nerdy but kindhearted, and is inexplicably surrounded by cute girls who might dislike him at first, but they all end up falling for his simple goodness in spite of numerous misunderstandings and, er excuse me

>retches violently<

Anyway, in UY, Ataru is scum. He's selfish, perverted, cowardly, hypocritical, underhanded, and vile. All the cute girls in the show (along with all the boys too,) hate his guts. The sole exception to this is Lum, who he keeps trying to get away from. UY is pretty much non-stop pun-riddled slapstick comedy, and really bears no resemblance to the typical romantic fanservice-ridden 1 loser guy+5 billion lolitas lonely otaku bait that's clogging the shelves currently. I blame Tenchi Myuo for that shit. :P

Sorry for the insufferable nerd lecture, but when someone says that UY started the genre Love fuckin Hina is in, I feel all crawly. :{

Since there's some Rumiko talk going on here, I just want to add some Maison Ikkoku love:

(image is kinda VG-related, it's an old-school Maison Ikkoku playing card deck made back in the days by Nintendo =)

I can easily say it's one of my all-time favorite anime series.
