US Lumines details/confirmation

EXCLUSIVE SKIN OF TOMMY AND VIC'S HEADS!

Please keep the Mondo Grosso stuff in...

Yeah you Fry's hoarding punks will get games on sales most likely.

For us non Fry's folks we are gonna have to pay 50 bucks for 3rd party PSP games. Ridiculous. Lumines should be retailing for $29.99. I'm pretty sure it'll be at that price or lower soon enough.

This forum is obsessed with the word "bomb" these days :lol

They're gonna get the catch phrase banned soon. What am I gonna use when I post cheap game deals? :(

ah there is going to be a replacement for that word, you can count on GAF :D

This is the #1 game I wanted on the PSP for launch, so I will happily pay $50 (although $40 would be better) to support the game actually making it to the US.

Great game, easily worth the price of admission. After you're bored with the launch line-up, Lumines continues to kick ass. True testamanet to the lastability of puzzle gameplay.

Promisingly, Ubisoft has also confirmed that there will be refinements to the US release of the game, including faster loading times and ‘skin’ (or stage) changes.

The "skin changes" worries me.

Hopefully, they just mean "more".

That's not a lot of details. Guess it'll be one of those "wait and see how different it really is" things, though I applaud Ubi for picking this up.

The only knock I'd have on it is the marathon sessions of an hour plus later on in the game when you're trying to unlock the last 50% of the skins. A lot of people out there aren't going to want to devote that much time to it. Or spend 50 bucks for that matter; that's like what I paid to import it. Although I have found that it makes workouts on the exercycle seem like only a puzzle game's length :D... I just have to try not to sweat on the screen.

$50!? That's ridiculous!

I fucking hate Sony for at last bringing stuff that doesn't feel old as hell to handhelds, and then dashing out my hopes for a reasonable price.

Glad it's being improved though. Loading times were that bad?
Nope, not bad at all.

There should be improvements, though - like when you fail a puzzle in the puzzle mode, you have to wait 3-4 seconds for the puzzle selection menu to appear, then you select that same puzzle and wait 3-4 seconds for it to load. Instead, they could have just put a 'retry' button when you fail a puzzle.

$50? Uh, about the same as a GBA game in the UK.

You folks in the UK are getting raped. GBA games here are $30, and often they sell for $25 at the first week for major games at a few stores

GBA games are actually meant to retail at the equivalent of $55 in the UK, and generally do, though if you buy at places like Amazon you can get them slightly cheaper.

In fact, right now at Amazon, you can get Minish Cap for £24.99 and Jungle Beat WITH Bongos for £29.99. So I guess handheld and console game prices being the same won't come as such a shock to us.

This game, definitely not worth $50. One of the best PSP games, yes, and a great puzzle game, but not worth $50. I don't care how many skins are programmed in for unlocking.

If Ubisoft removes any skins or changes any of the music they will burn.
I am sure that everybody at Ubisoft is far too afraid to change any of these for the U.S. version. If they do, we will make sure that they burn.

The only change they need to make is to add a Shuffle mode, which is the same as Challenge mode except it picks the skins randomly from the ones you have unlocked.

Oh, they will burn. That stuff in Resident Evil 4?
Las Plagas
and all?

It's real. And I'm going to unleash it on Ubisoft if they change any of that shit out. I don't mind if they add in extra skins or some extra music...

...but it MUST be perfect in every other way. Better loading times is nice. Also, plz add in saving feature Ubisoft.

Improvements are always nice but i'm more concerned with if anything at all is changed. Looks like i'll have to wait till it's actually released and people play through to find out whether it is or not. Wonder how many times i can watch spiderman 2 in that time rofl.

Are we not yet masters of reading between the PR lines?

When Sony announced "games published by SCEA will be as low as $39.99" what they were actually saying was "pretty much all third party games, and some of ours, will be $49.99." Why are you shocked now?

Yes, if they screw this up, we will unleash our hordes on them. I really don't think they should add any music unless it is hand-picked my Miz himself. The probability that Ubisoft will screw this up if they try to add new things is very high so I hope they take a conservative approach. I wouldn't mind a few technical improvements, but leave the content untouched.

I think deep inside we all knew.

But I'll be damned if I wasn't clinging onto hope.

Doesn't look like they're making it "MK&A's Lumines Dance Party" or anything like that -- screenshots show the same skins (and "I Feel The Music" is Eri Nobuchika's, "Shake Ya Body" is Mondo Grosso, so should be safe.)

They'd be stupid if they replaced the songs. Not only would they rape the target audience, but it would just waste unnecessary resources to replace the songs or skins or whatever

EVERYONE STOP. WHERE DOES IT SAY THE GAME WILL BE $50?

Ebgames suggests that 1st party PSP games will be priced at $39.99, while 3rd party games at $49.99. Not exactly the best source but mind as well bitch with everyone else!

I'm pretty sure there'll be licensing issues with using the music from Mondo Grosso and Eri Nobuchika in the US, so they may end up changing those skins, but everything else (produced internally) should be a-ok. Besides, "Lights" is in Japanese - there's no way that's gonna fly.

$50 too much? Hell, I was gonna import this sucker, and maybe even buy a Jap system just to play it (before it was known there is no region lock-out), so I'm more than happy with the price!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

I <3 Lights

jonny, how much does a new copy of Lumines go for in Japan these days? Used?

I doubt it's Ubisoft taking the game and screwing with it. It's very likely Mizuguchi taking the extra time and making some refinements for the American fans.

I thought he was exhausted after the Lumines tour and now he's heads in finishing Meteos.

Wow. If they cut off Lights, I'm going to have UbiSoft's head on a silver platter. :-<

Come on now, I bet 80% of the people who own Lumines has never gotten to Lights in Japan and it'll be the same in the US. So even if they did replace it secretly with Will Smith and Martin Lawrance singing Bad Boys, I doubt most people would notice! :lol :lol
