I guess you can change the French translation with a Spanish one and it would reflect the real US boxart.

The french that you may just have read and that may or may not be understandable to english-speaking GAFers, is basically people complaining about the words "ensemble de valeur". This is something hard to translate, it's meaning in english would be something like "shame value", but even those words do not reveal the true meaning of this botchering of the french language.
As as to why it is like this, I'd guess unlike my friends here said, it's not because some clueless cheap englishmen used Babelfish to get a french version, but much rather because in other french-speaking countries, this expression has got no such bad pun related to it, for it's a quebecism. So I suppose it's, as people in the videogame industry seem to do often, a translation done by someone who's native language would be english, but who'd studied french at university, so it's hard to grasp for such people, pecularities of french in North America. It looks like it's pretty official, so my guess is that there won't be a change like there was for the GameCube launch in Canada (as for which the original catchphrase ended up being a bad pun associated with sodomy).

Moi mon probleme c'est le "de" qui fait passer le tout de francais botcher mais passable ensemble valeur, a du francais horrible qui dit plus "pack of value" alors que "ensemble boni" aurais ete si simple et efficace...

Fact is, even those people trabslating english words in french often go with what they find in a dictionary, and to be honest, many of those are done by quebekers.
I've lived too long here to believe otherwise, just by judging on the translation used for most movies and/or products (and more than once those products were from Quebec itself).
No one in his right mind would translate Value Pack into Ensemble de Valeur for a european french speaking country, they'd rather go with "Super ensemble" or "Ensemble extreme". Something with markting punch...

I hate some french non-sense also, my DVD collection bookshelves are horrendous because of those horrendous bilingual covers. Paramount, Disney, Alliance Atlantis Vivafilm (which repackages Miramax and New Line films) and Universal being the main culprits here.
No, the word you mentioned would not make sense in french at all for Sony on the PSP cover, so ensemble is better, it's that last word that stinks. Nintendo used the term pak all the time, but in french it never made sense whatsover, so cartouche (which is the litteral translation for cartridge) is what is used.
hmmm... plus que j'y pense, the more I start to beleive sony SHOULD release the standalone pack too... tse, j'vient juste de m'acheter un truck, so I'm on the tight-ish end of my wallet... Un pack avec juste le PSP, un batterie pis le fil electrique pour $249 ca serais plus allechant...

Besides, the recent Sony console box arts suck. I was disappointed with the PSP one especially, as it's marketed as a stylish device. My expectation was something bold, similar to the first PS2 box - just blue, with a bold white PS2 logo. Nothing else.
That PSP boxart does not place it in same league as iPod, rather in same league with DS.

everytime! :lolMe thinks the american packaging will be unilingual. Sony's documentation now is in many languages (my canadian PStwo box is in english, spanish and french), but the way the box is done, it does not shows proeminently any language. This is not the case with PSP.
