I just saw an article about using the 360 usb support and a usb hdd to increase the storage capacity. Would it be functional with games for cache or would it have to be used as storage for pics/vids/ media etc only anyone tried this approach?

You can plug one in, but I don't think it does anything but let you play music and look at pictures on it.

^^^What he said, you can't save to it, a USB HD enclosure is just recognized as another USB storage device that can be read from.

every USB device like hard drives, cameras, ect. are read only. That's why usb wireless adapters don't work.

Should, if you can plug in a USB key drive and play music off it, a USB HDD shouldn't be any different.

Most games do. They give you this option in the event that you have the both the HDD and a memory card (or two) connected at once. You CAN'T save on anything other than the Xbox 360 HDD or a memory card.

That will teach you how to convert a USB or regular HDD as the systems main HDD instead of using it via the USB port and only being able to load music/photos from it.

I just read this and it teaches you nothing of the sort. It only tells you how to format a USB drive to store music.
