Used DS Systems 99$ At gamestop

force push the doodoo rock
For the people still holding out, you can get a ds for 99 at gamestop. And you should! Castlevania comes out oct 5th!

Nice tip, but I fear the used DS due to touch screen issues and I'm waiting for a new bright-lit DS (hopefully will arrive before Nintendogs special package). I will be heavy-heartedly focusing extra hard on classes next week as everyone plays the American rev.

A new bright-lit DS?

The screen is freaking perfectly lit. Don't worry about it.

Are there any known touch screen issues?

Other than any visible scratches, etc., I wouldn't really worry much about buying a used DS (after testing it out of course).

The DS already has (and has always had) the "brighter" back-lit screen that the new revision of the SP just got.

no, the new sp screen is considerably brighter than the ds screens. there are comparison pictures in that big thread, though the difference in color intensity is even bigger than they suggest. castlevania dos looks amazing, but this is a bad time to buy ds hardware. there will be a revision.

this is a bad time to buy Nintendo portable hardware. there will be a revision.

:X

You're damned if you if NintenDo, and damned if you NintenDon't.

Either way - the DS and Gamecube are the last pieces of Nintendo hardware I ever buy. Way to go Nintendo.

I shouldn't have been dumb enough to buy their hardware twice before this, but I can't help it - I wanted to play games, how was I to know the hardware wouldn't be suitable for doing that? >:|

No, it really isn't a bad time to buy DS hardware.

IF they end up doing a revision, it probably won't be for a little while.

But it doesn't matter really, because the current light is perfect. No reason to wait because of a light.

But if you have a DS, then you shouldn't be having that problem. Unless for some reason you don't like Kirby, Advance Wars, Bomberman, Meteos, Nintendogs, Wario Ware, Nanostray, Puyo Pop and the huge lineup of games that start coming out. In the next month DS gets Castlevania, Lost in Blue, Lunar, Trauma Center, Trace Memory, Phoenix Wright, and Dig Dug, Metroid Prime Pinball. Seriously, "no good games" is the worst excuse you could use.

ds is meant to be nintendo's high-end portable, but it now has by far the worst screens they offer. that can't last. it's just a question of whether they do a full hardware revision or an unannounced revision of the screens.

The only thing likely for the rest of 2005 is a revision of the light. A full hardware revision would not happen until at least 2006.

Waiting for the DS revision seems tempting, but with the new games coming out this fall, I will probably get one in November as I budgeted.

If they come out with a revision, I'll just get it again. At the current price, it's affordable to get two. I'll need both eventually anyways.

Yeah, I agree; but god damn it - Wayforward insists on releasing more games for Nintendo systems. I really hope they're putting their PSP dev kits to good use. :/

They are as foot warmers. :)

So it is.. but the DS is quite a ways less washed out than the regular SP. I really wouldn't recommend someone hold off buying a DS for some possible brighter revision down the line.

Ah well, it's good that Nintendo's relevance to gaming is dwindling so the fans without games will have more personal photos to post in response to my bitter diatribes. ^_^

do you think nintendo's relevance isn't dwindling, or do you think that their dwindling relevance is a bad thing? cos you'd be wrong in both cases, but less objectively wrong in the second.

i got the super mario 64 pack today, and am waiting for it to charge now.

i am so friggin excited, and pissed i have to go to school tommorow.

on a side note, does kirby kick as much ass as people say?

Do people even know what the word "perfect" means anymore? I think everyone has forgot.

Still going to wait. Sad, too, because before the Micro/SPv2 launch, I was ready to put my money down.

My only concern is: will this print run of Castlevania be a small one (like Harmony/Aria/Chronicles) or a large one (CotM/Sotn {eventually})?

If you do wait and not being able to find games is a concern, it's easy to find used copies on ebay.
I love ebay, I got my DS w/ Mario64 in March for $100 shipped.

I guess you're right. Piracy of DS games is far less prevalent on eBay than GBA games, undoubtedly.

I still might buy the game before the sytem if I find a good deal.

I'm confused how the revised GBA SP and the Micro are making the DS's screens "poor". The DS displays are still great -- maybe not as bright as the displays in the other two models, but they are in no way "poor".
