Valkyria Revolution launches June 27 on PS4/Vita

Sega logic.

This bears repeating but this spinoff was in development 4 months before the PC version of VC1 released. Sega has always made decisions with the series in Japan with mind. The PC version had nothing to do with this game being made.

What VC1's PC success DID do;
-Motivated Sega to release the VC1 remaster on PS4
-Motivated Sega to do a concurrent localization of this game so it would release much closer to its Japanese counterpart (though that effort mas blindsided by one of the strongest Winter-Spring game release windows in recent history, forcing a delay).

Though it's probably easy to localize a game when you stop developing it to stem future financial bleeding... :P

$40 is a real surprise price. I suppose Sega USA/Atlus is all too aware that this game is not very good. I still think however that the DLC release will be a waste of time, it's really poor value for what they charge.

When/where was $40 confirmed for console versions?

What the fuck, this game has an Xbone version but no PC version? Even after great VC sales on the PC? Sega, you're killing me!

At least I have the western release of PSO 2 to look forward to.

Hey I've played a buncha action rpgs people would say are bad, what could possibly go wrong?

It is not a decent ARPG :P Like, it's mechanically a huge mess with it's global cooldown nonsense and 30 minute+ sponge bosses.
Okay not that bad. Is that on the lowest difficulty? Are there even difficulty levels? What're the odds they nerf baddie stats hard to make the western version seem less bad?

Apparently the localization is actually already done according to some people. They're just having it sit to release between Persona 5 and Yakuza Kiwami rather than releasing it too close to Yakuza 0 or Persona 5 and having a drought until Kiwami is ready.
If that's the case an this game releases at the end of June... Kiwami really will be a "summer" release after all >.<

If you turn down the difficulty, it's basically a musou without being as fun as a musou. (At least in my view, the whole point of musou is supposed to make you feel like a mega badass while flashily killing scores of enemies). This game has a whole lot of cooldown and pausing, so it can feel like you're stopping too much.

I'll try it. I'm not big on strategy games anyway.

Sorry, GAF.

People aren't telling you to stay away because it's not a strategy game, my friend... lol

I sure don't play games for the difficulty or challenge so that part wouldn't bug me. Sitting around and waiting in an action-y game though? Can't even begin to understand why such a system'd be in there. Sounds just awful.

Actually, I'd bet highly on a PC release of this in the near future.

It fits the mold of other A++ PC port choices Sega Europe has made in the past with modern classics like VikingBFA and Sonic Lost World.

Because, ironically, get this... Because people complained it was an action game after the first demo. It was a much better (but still bad) action game in the first demo.

In any case, I'd assume they were actually trying to turn it into a competent RPG-with-action-elements like Xenoblade, Mass Effect 1, or KOTOR, but then they got their budget yanked while still designing the new combat system, resulting in a half-assed action game with half-assed "strategic" elements bolted on that are all but identical to The Bureau: XCOM Declassified's half-assed "strategic elements".

I am 100% Certain that this game is a victim of Sega's MARKETING GENIUSES™ forcing Media.Vision to put out a demo that wasn't ready yet to bolt on to Valkyria Chronicles Remastered to push more copies.

Media Vision game was never really good with balancing their game. Wild Arms XF is a perfect example of big difficulty spike. Then Chaos Ring is the most broken easy RPG i played in a while.

more exemple Cyber sleuth one of the easiest RPG ever made(non hard mode US version). Also Shining Resonance was too easy...

So why is this game bad?

From what I understand,

1. The core gameplay is extremely confused and is neither tactical enough like Valkyria, not insane enough like a Musou game, nor satisfying enough like a standard action Japanese RPG (Tales, Star Ocean)

2. The dialogue is extremely lengthy, overly so. Metal Gear Solid 4 Tier of lengthy cutscenes but without the cinematography that those games attempt.

3. The core gameplay is extremely repetitive. Bosses and objectives and enemy combinations are repeated over and over and aren't that interesting, to begin with.

4. Permadeath for some characters leads to them not having enough participation in the plot and they could be interesting but aren't given enough to shine.

5. Mediocre character designs.

Honestly, the thing that pisses me off the most about this game is that if it's not outright killed the series (Fingers crossed that the Valkyria 3 remake is real and still a thing), is that this has basically killed the potential for spinoffs of the series.

I would have loved to see a more traditional RPG spinoff the series akin to Final Fantasy or Trails set in the same universe as Chronicles.

Though of course just saying that just rubs it in even more for me how the VC universe's potential was so squandered by its sequels by literally retreading the same territory and not bringing much more into the lore beyond reinforcing that Gallia has a lot of shitheads and that the Federation might as well be Putin's Russia (I mean, shit, VC2 might as well have been prophetic as to what's going on in Ukraine, just replace Little Green Men with Gallian Revolutionary Army).
