Steam Hardware - Steam Controller: Reservations open May 8th - Steam News
How to reserve yours, and what we're doing to mitigate the challenges from earlier in the week
Why didn't they do this to begin with?
I'm expecting it lolWhat's going to be hilarious is if the reservation system crashes

I think it's what they did for the Deck. They must have thought that it was overkill to do the same for a controller under a $100. Looks like this system will be the way going forward.I'm expecting it lol
I hope they use this system for Steam Machine (if it works)
To instill FOMO into you and buying something you don't need. It's nothing new.Why didn't they do this to begin with?
Easily solved, implement a second reservation system for the reservation of the controller. What's going to be hilarious is if the reservation system crashes

But what if THAT system goes down???Easily solved, implement a second reservation system for the reservation of the controller.
There's people on eBay with 5+ controllers. We have software that exists to flip products and works faster than anyone can. I'm not playing these games, I'll get it when I can just add to my cart.
But what if THAT system goes down???
I wonder if the pre reviews being middling has something to do with it and Valve was genuinely caught by suprise? No one came out and said the controller was the second coming. Even the more hardcore/linux/Steam youtubers were quick to point out its faults. The controller may be good, but it has not batted a 1000 it seems. Guess we will have to wait for Steam Controller 3 or a third party to pick up the slack of the 2.Should have just gone with this in the first place. They didn't expect it to sell out, or what?
Start selling reservations to reservations on eBay for 4x the price like everyone else, duh!But what if THAT system goes down???

Not really negative, but typically shills will say "this is my new controller from now on". I didn't see that kind of high praise for it.The reviews were more positive than negative, but I really don't think that has anything to do with it. The available stock at that point was already set.
Probably not, but they might let you know what batch you are expected to be in.Will you know what place in line you're at?
The original Steam controller did not do well. Once people learned how to set them up properly and take full advantage it gained some traction but this was after Valve purged their inventory with that $5 sale they had. In retrospect I should have bought 100 of them as today they sell for 200-300 and I use mine a lot on PC to this day.I'm thinking they underestimated demand........badly

Eh after some reflection when not getting one a few days ago, I'm honestly kinda over it. Now firmly in the "wait for some impressions from GAF members and probably only buy one if there are huge can't-miss features" mindset.
Most of the negativity I have seen around it is based on it not supporting XInput. It is a valid concern for a general controller, but I wasn't expecting XInput support coming from Valve. I don't think the first one ever supported XInput. Everything else seems to be an improvement over the OG Steam controller.I wonder if the pre reviews being middling has something to do with it and Valve was genuinely caught by suprise? That's the boat I was in when I missed out on it, but man...I really want to see if I can boot up my Legion Go S SteamOS that's connected to my bedroom TV and if I have more of a "console-like" experience with the couch PC gaming setup.Eh after some reflection when not getting one a few days ago, I'm honestly kinda over it. Bill from the Nerd Nest said the way he had to grip the controller actually caused pain in his finger. Most of the negativity I have seen around it is based on it not supporting XInput. $200-300 for the original? I have one somewhere. Might try to sell it.
I was kind of in the same mindset, but now I've got $100 parked in my Steam wallet. lol.....oops
As a major brand, you just have to assume any new piece of kit you release will be botted and scalped day 1. Especially in the new age of AI.
Yep, round 2 for me too, haha.I guess I'll try again![]()
If the reports about imports are to be believed, SoonTM.I want the damn steam Machine, when's the queue for that. I'll worry about the controller then.
Ready!15 minutes away, who else is ready to join me on the reservation list?
What did they have to lose? Why didn't they do this to begin with?
I'm SO tempted, but I have to think rational. I want the Frame most, followed by the Machine which probably comes in a bundle with a controller. I don't need it right .... I don't need right now15 minutes away, who else is ready to join me on the reservation list?
