Huh it's almost like this is an example of why saying or doing literally anything you think of for attention without considering the consequences isn't always a good idea

Almost

Good.

Sick to death of the normalisation of online casual racism.

My thought on this is rather disconcerting. If it turns out that someone else picks him up and he repairs his main revenue stream, it wouldn't be so much about normalizing racism, but justifying said racism for the sake of profit. Basically, money making bad people.

His value isn't in his contracts, it's in his number of viewers. The only way his career is over is if he loses a substantial number of viewers bringing his overall value down. As it stands, he is carrying luggage full of money and just needs a place to put it down.

And how do those viewers turn into money? Via ad revenue, primarily through Google... Who just banned him from their premium service.

It's not a death sentence, but this was a major blow to him...

Yep, Like I said in the other thread, he fucked up but I hope he recognise his fault and move on to be a better person. Everyone fucks up.

But the haters will just use this as a fuel against him from now on which is a shame.

He keeps fucking up, though. Only so many chances you can give someone. And he always manages to make himself the victim in his apologies, the media using him for clicks and whatnot.

I like the guy and the hate he gets on GAF just for being successful off of playing games is ridiculous, but he really needs to learn to stop himself, and if the only way he learns is some consequences then so be it.

but since his show is not a live show, he could've censored / blurred / cut the offensive statement during his editing process.

With regards to the whole thing: PewDiePie is gonna land on his feet. Which he should. Because he's not a bad guy, he simply wilfully simply overstepped a few too many lines to impress / cater to his mostly rather young audience.

His career shouldn't be ruined, neither should stuff like this remain unsanctioned and therefore normalized.

I'm perfectly okay with how things are unfolding.

i know, he clearly thought it was funny and bizarre that they did it so he left it in.
i'm also perfectly fine with the things that are happening to him, don't get me wrong.

i just think there's a distinction between a guy who says offensive things fishing for laughs and someone that actually believes and spews racist things when he's not doing a comedy show.

once again, he stepped over the line and should get punished for it.

Certainly a major blow but one that could be bounced back from is my point. As long as he has that userbase, someone will be willing to pay for access to them. And he almost certainly has the money to manipulate decent contracts would be my guess.

When did fascism become so cool? PewDiePie's antics are the thin end of the wedge

Everything there is true but I have to wonder if it's possible for the man to read something like that, laid out exactly as it is and have him do serious self-reflection or does he continue on with the "lighten up, it's a joke", "those guys knew what they were doing" bit? I don't even know if it matters now because if he comes out with a heart felt apology (maybe he did already) his audience will see it as appeasement to the PC police.

It´s worse when you realize that most of this guy viewers are little kids. He should get his whole channel scrapped from youtube, what a waste of online space.

His career isn't over but his rep is tarnished with big companies. He also lost a significant chunk of revenue without those deals. He's basically gonna earn money from clicks the old fashion away again. Dude really fucked it up.

One of the first YouTube Red shows they kept pushing on us.

Oh lol, i'm sure google paid him a lot of money for it but I doubt it would last forever anyway. Do people actually sub to youtube red?

He is set for life so the guy won't be hurting, and I don't believe he's actually an anti semite and it was a crass and ugly joke he should have known was a bad idea.

But he deserves to be put aside from the spotlight for quite a while.

Yes and Gibson probably made millions off hacksaw ridge.... That's like the opposite of career over, dude probably made more than most do in a life time off one film . In other words if someone can make money off of you you're almost never blacklisted
... You're missing my point, but never mind.

https://www.destructoid.com/there-s...trolls-sick-of-fake-gamer-girls--410491.phtml

A new docu-reality series from the makers of "Catfish: The TV Show" is looking for people with strong opinions on anything from POLITICS to GAMING who are vocal about it online. THIS IS YOUR CHANCE TO BE HEARD!

DO YOU HAVE AN ONLINE NEMESIS? Is there an individual that you specifically troll on any of these issues:

Feminism, Gaming, Vegans, Syrian Refugees, Immigration, Black Lives Matter, LGBT/Trans issues, etc.

If so, WE WANT YOU!

Reply with a recent photo, your contact info and tell us about the person you are trolling!

Listing has since been removed, but still.

Boggles my mind how stupid he was doing it.

Success went to his head. He used to be much more humble. I unsubbed and quit watching his videos a while ago when he started to keep doing these dumb skits instead of just playing games like he used to. Way too much trash in his channel now.

First off, I'm curious where people keep pulling this assumed demographic from.

Second, this comment comes off as being the typical, "why's he rich and I'm not" salt.

i think it's sort of connected to google play music now?
it's actually a neat deal and i would subscribe to it if it was available here.

Yeah, he's definitely not gonna go broke or anything. It was a pretty stupid thing to get them to do, and he should definitely lose sponsorships. That being said I don't think he's a bad dude in the way he's presented himself in the past, but you never know, I guess.

Should have gotten them to put something weird on the sign that was more a dig at the sign holders. Would have been funnier that way anyways

People really need to learn about the wretched fucked up shit the Nazi's actually did, and that if you're not actually a Nazi, and don't mind outing yourself, it's not a good idea to "joke" about their ideology.

I'm less likely to believe that he's anti semitic but I do believe he's an idiot and unfortunately this idiot is followed and adored by millions of children, who now think Nazi propaganda can be fun!

Guess who else is defending their hero? Well their movement can't be all bad, they are defending their bestest buddy PewDiePie!

He was removed from the premium ad program; he still gets ad revenue, AFAIK, but not nearly as much as he was.

So he will still make millions a year then. Still a big hit for him I'm sure. Wonder if he will show contrition or double down now.

It's a shame, I never actively watched his videos but the few times I saw some of his non-minecraft stuff he seemed like an okay guy. Bummer for him to do something like this.

Proud to say Ive never really watched him, so know next to nothing about him other than he has a lot of subscribers. Like most youtubers, he is insincere, fake, and obnoxious from clips i have seen. I mean if you like watching people be obnoxious, then good for you.

The Fiverr video could have easily been edited out, even with his over exaggerated surprised face (typical for youtubers). Will it destroy him? doubt it. He has 53 million subscribers, and Im sure he will still make a ton of money whether we like that or not. If YouTube really wanted to fix the problem they would disable his channel. That isnt going to happen.

Sponsors are more valuable than viewers. Also his twitter is banned.

Hold on... His Twitter is banned for this? Not that I necessarily have a problem with that but, from perusing most hashtags related to US politics, you'd think about a third of Twitter users were white supremacists. They've got a lot of human trash to take out.

It's not about money. It's about content. I really don't care if someone makes billions when the content is good, but when your whole schtick is being outrageous it's just not worth it. Specially if you start to make anti-Semite remarks or glorify nazi thinking.

Mea culpa with the demographic thing.

Not defending what he did, its sad that he does it. But come on to all the haters here. I doubt that its over with him.

With so many followers he will find a other way to earn money.

I'll reserve judgment on his character because I don't know him personally and it is possible for good people to make idiotic mistakes while being able to learn upon them, but he picked a very astoundingly stupid hill to die on.
