VGA -> HDMI?

Are there cables like this? I've seen a bunch of DVI - > HDMI cables.

I'm getting an HDTV very soon, and I can set up my X800XT to output to 1080i, so I was thinking about plugging my PC into my television for gaming and whatnot.

OK, so since that isn't getting any responses, I realized I could easily get a VGA-> Component cable for around $12 after shipping.

Here's the cable I'm looking at. Is it a good quality cable? And can I get a good/better cable for less?

Also, I figure since I'll be using this to display what's on my PC screen, I can probably make it better by connecting this to a VGA splitter. I'm thinking about getting something like this:

How is the quality on those splitters? Am I gonig to notice any really bad signal problems?

Also, anyone ever buy from either of those shops? How reliable are they?

Difference is DVI is a digital output being converted to just another digital connection in HDMI. VGA is an analog output, so if such converters do exist, it would really negate the quality difference such outputs offer. Best bet is to go with one of those VGA to component cables. Analog to analog.

Which is what I was looknig at in my second post.

Can anyone answer any of my questions from the second post?

I was sitting back, smoking... Thinking about how my beloved Dreamcast could only be hooked up tp my TV via s-video because there are no component cables for it. I thought I could go the VGA/HDMI, but quickly remembered that one is analog, one is digital and that a DAC would need to be somewhere in between...

Which meant spending $$$.

Fuck that.

Ecro, you'll get ghosting w/ that splitter.

Well, there are DVI->VGA adapters because the DVI spec does allow for an analog signal pass-through, meaning there is no DAC conversion going on. I'm not sure if the HDMI spec includes that though, so it might not work (going from VGA->DVI->HDMI). I'm pretty sure a pure VGA->HDMI adapter does not exist.

DaCoco, how can you tell I'll get ghosting? What do I have to look for with splitters to know I won't get ghosting?

Power...

I use an Extron RGB switcher. It's pro-sumer (read: not cheap).

Even w/ that I get slight (and I do mean slight) ghosting, but that I think is more attributed to the cable run (it's like 30 feet) than the device.

Wait, actually, what kind of ghosting am I going to experience?

Isn't ghosting when you can see another image barely visibler over the one you're watching, like when you're watching a TV without cable and you can see another channel bleed through a bit?

If I'm splitting the VGA cable, what's gonig to ghost, and where?

You'll see a 'haze' around text. Won't be crisp. Have you ever used a cheap VGA switcher? Same thing.

That's what annoys me the most. Just not as clear as it would be otherwise. Unless you're super-anal, it's not a deal breaker by any means.
