[VGC] Nintendo explains why Switch 2 Game Chat screen sharing has a low frame rate

I know it's easy to make fun of this whole game chat thing but honestly I think it could have massive appeal with casuals. Similar to Wii motion controls if used as an analogy.
Why wii motion controls would appeal more to casuals? Hardcore gamers don't like more immersion?

Did this really need an explanation? Streaming video takes bandwidth. Streaming four at the same time at high frame rates can have an impact.

It's not like you're actually trying to do split screen.

Nobody would be bitching as much if they didn't eventually charge you for it, but they will by next year.

It's a horribly compromised feature. First of all it looks like shit and second of all it runs like shit.

Why have that functionality at all if it doesn't work flawlessly.

I guess if having a decent video chat meant losing precious Switch 2 performance then I'm glad they went this route. I will never use the feature either way but I'd be pissed to learn tomorrow that "we've listened to your feedback and have decided to dedicate one of the Switch 2's cpu cores for video chat"

So if Nintendo didn't do a lazy implementation, the framerate should be boosted when there's fewer streams ? Right ?

probably not, it's also about your own video recording. the CPU, GPU and mamory strain when broadcasting video is much higher than when you just stream a video feed.

your console has to capture the video, compress it and then send it out. while all it has to do to display other people's screens is decode the video stream.

Crap frame updates because it takes up to much system resources? You don't say.

Obviously a separate chip for that would be iut of the question lol.

They came too late with this. Sure casuals and children may see some use to this but gamers usually have a discord open next to their game for this. As for the 10 fps, I hope we aren't in a kinect 2 xbox one situation where a considerable amount of power could be used for game performance if it wasn't gatekept by this feature.
