One of the things I found interesting in the rumours, was how MS observed the way developers were using the hardware on the current generation, and designed their new console accordingly. There was a surprising part saying that a big chunk of the CPU is usually dedicated to sound processing, and that as a consequence the 720 had a big amount of specific hardware dedicated to that task.
It sounds anecdotal, but it's interesting to see how those architectures get designed, and how there is more to it than just getting powerful components.
