An interesting video on VICE with helmet cam footage of an ISIS soldier engaging in "organized" combat. Can't help but feel a mix of pity and satisfaction. I hate that I feel that but might as well acknowledge it.

https://news.vice.com/video/what-its-really-like-to-fight-for-the-islamic-state

VICE News has obtained footage taken from the headcam of an Islamic State (IS) fighter who died in March while battling Kurdish peshmerga troops in northern Iraq. The clash took place about 30 miles north of Mosul.

Unlike IS propaganda, which often presents sweeping battlefield victories, the video shows chaos, panic, and the fighters retreating.

VICE News shows the grim reality of an IS foot soldier.

They could have just posted a link to Liveleak. There's dozens of videos of those morons killing themselves there.

Some of those "morons" are fathers trying to find a way to feed their children. They are not trained soldiers.
And before anyone asks why they are not getting another, more decent, job. It's because they live in countries who have been ruined in the first place. Barring so the entry to more acceptable jobs. They don't do it for fun, far from it.

Not trying to make fun, because the whole shit isn't, but why are they retreating rolling on the ground like that? Wouldn't crawling away do the job better or at least equally good?

I didn't know ISIS had a drama class. "Improvised armored vehicle" indeed. That thing looks like something one would use in a school play.

While I understand the circumstances are as dire as dire gets for a lot of these people and the places/countries they live in, they also don't have to fight for a group that espouses rape, slavery, destruction of historic monuments, beheadings, genocidal purges, etc. etc. etc. They might not be able to get a better decent job but they did still make the decisions of joining forces with a group of murderous madmen. They might be fathers, brothers, family men etc. but they are also helping kill other peoples fathers, brothers, friends and rape and enslave their women who are peoples daughters, sisters, wives, and so on.

Oh and the OP got banned quick.

There really is a defense force for everything on Gaf.

I understand what you're saying, but in my mind there's zero excuse for joining a murderous, hate-filled group like ISIS no matter what.

Did the OP get banned for posting this? Shit cuz I posted a link to this vid in the main ISIS thread. I'll take it down if it's against the TOS.

Moron wasn't a good word. It doesn't accurately capture the disgusting nature of directly supporting an organization that tortures and murders. There is absolutely no way to justify those actions. No, not even 'to feed my family'.

I wouldnt' ask why they don't get a better job, just why they join an organization that exists to try and eradicate most of the human race. Going on a killing spree isn't excused by your children going hungry >_>

I’m not surprised at all. If you ever been in a combat situation you know how chaotic it really is even if all you do is train for it. These clowns barely have any training and it shows. There’s a reason why they resort to suicide tactics and terrorizing civilian because they can’t fight for shit.

I agree with you. But it comes down to doing what is best for you and yours versus what is best for everyone. I think that you should prioritize the grand collective over what is best for yourself and your family, but not everyone agrees. See for example debates on gaf about gun ownership. Most people who let their opinions be informed by facts, whether they are proponents of gun control or not, would agree that more people owning guns makes a society less safe on average. Even acknowledging this, some people would still want to own guns because they think it would make themselves and their families more secure, fuck everyone else. Similarly, a lot of lives could be saved every year by universal healthcare, but many people oppose paying higher taxes to fund healthcare for all.

Choosing to join Daesh to feed yourself and your family is just individualism taken to its ugly conclusion.

No.

From our perspective, and a rational one at that, no it's not excused.

But when you're options are

1. Let my children go hungry and die
2. Murder people so my children don't go hungry.

I would not be shocked that some people are pushed to option 2. Desperation can make you do some pretty irrational things.

Inexusable? Of course. But I can at least understand why it happens. You're essentially asking a man to trade his children's life for others. Is that the justifible thing to do? In your eyes yes, in his eyes no.

OP's ban has nothing to do with this thread.

Camera dude seems like the most competent one there. Abu Hajjar is a numpty and seems to have had very little training.

It's amazing how people can determine from this footage that these men fighting for a genocidal terror army are just desperately trying to provide food for their children who would starve otherwise.

I've never been within 500 miles of combat or anything related, but damn that's an extremely terrifying depiction of war. Is that how warfare is usually conducted? Not once did I see what they were firing at or who was firing at them.

Like the US?

False equivalence, but at the same time, yeah, sure. I don't condone what the US government does. Which is why I'm not on the field shooting people, or directly helping maintain their weapons, or preparing their food. If it tried to force me to, I would refuse.

Yeah typically. The Peshmerga look like they a fortified position on higher ground looking over an open field. IS are trying to roll up on them with small arms and makeshift vehicles, it was doomed before it began.

Those "fathers" are part of a group of men who rape children, rape women, sell women and children as sex slaves where they're beaten and gang raped until they're "used up" and killed, torture and kill those who refuse to be raped, bomb schools and playgrounds, and behead anyone they can find. This isn't some fucking petty thieves gang, these are terrorists so extreme and brutal that even Al-Qaeda are at war with them. The people who FLEW A PLANE INTO A BUILDING thinks they're nuts. Think about that.

Honestly. Not to mention the cameraman got shot. From which direction by what or whom is a complete mystery. Ugh. To die so senselessly like that.

. . .well alright then. Cool.

They look scared out of their wits.

War is shit.

Im glad I saw a video like this because It shows me how the media depiction of War in movies/games/TV.... Its all shit. Not that I ever looked at that to be accurate but its way off the mark regardless.

Fascniating. I am really impressed what people can build scrap without proper resources. It looks ugly and is nothing against professional technology, but it's still impressive that they get something together at all.

It's nothing new, either. The British Home Guard (the so-called "Dad's Army" of WWII) made lots of improvised vehicles (and weapons) to defend against German invasion, like the Bison Mobile Pillbox, the Northover Projector (a crude improvised anti-tank rifle), and the #76 SIP Grenade (a glass improvised incindiary grenade).

Not all these people are necessarily that relatable, many of these people were former extremists during the Iraq war, and many are simple seeking martyrdom .

Yeah this? what the hell were they fighting?
I can't make anything out in the vid it just looks like they're getting destroyed out of nowhere

They are fighting Peschmerga, the kurds. As someone pointed out, Peschmerga probably fortified a position on higher ground and ISIS is trying desperately to break through with a frontal assault over the wide open plain.

They are fighting the Kurds military forces, the Peshmerga, who are some of the most hardened and experienced military fighters in the Middle East next to the likes of Israel and other major players.
