The lingerie brand's catwalk show was scrapped after its 2018 edition drew low ratings as well as criticism that it was sexist, outdated and lacked diversity.

It returned on Tuesday in New York, where British supermodel Kate Moss, 50, made her debut at the event, with her 22-year-old daughter Lila also appearing on the runway.

Schaffer highlighted its diversity, saying there were 50 models from 25 different countries.

But Maher wrote that despite this, "the runway was still overwhelmingly dominated by thin conventionally attractive models".

Those on the catwalk on Tuesday included Brazilian model Valentina Sampaio, who became the first transgender model to represent Victoria's Secret in 2019.

There was also an appearance from another transgender model, Alex Consani.

Plus-sized models including Ashley Graham and Paloma Elsesser also walked the famous runway, but some saw this as a token gesture considering the company's history.

What the hidden problem is:
The lingerie brand's catwalk show was scrapped after its 2018 edition drew low ratings
What they blamed it on:
criticism that it was sexist, outdated and lacked diversity.

Let’s see if they’ll actually modernize the distribution or if the ones in charge still think old school television ratings + their website subscription are they key to success.

Models are supposed to be attractive but there's many kinds of attractive. There's thin attractive, curvy attractive, thick attractive, plus size attractive... I understand HIGH FASHION prefers stick thin models because they're supposed to represent clothes hangers ...

I think this is overcorrecting... Like a lot of things that were overwhelmingly one type before NOW trying to be more diverse and overcorrecting.

Obese women should buy their underwear at cattle-like auctions.

Do you see many fat and short male models?

We're not talking about male models... And the fashion industry is largely male dominated (behind the scenes) ... THEY decide what models to hire. Not women.

We are talking about beauty. You claim that beauty comes in many forms, without certain standards. That's wrong.

Beauty resonates with our soul, it's objective and measurable in every aspect of life: music, arts, looks.

A fat model is gross. Anorexic ones are, too. We all know what beautiful men and women look like, bullshit aside.

As for the "male dominated" argument, I wanna believe you aren't implying that evil 100% non-gay white men are the ones deciding beauty standards. I want to believe you don't mean such stupidity.

Come on man, VICTORIAS SECRET is supposed to represent the VERY BEST in lingerie. No butt implants, bad boob jobs, hopefully limited filler and botox. DEFINITELY need a body fat under your age! The chubbos can go get their own show!

The only 'diversity' this show needs is more WOMEN from around the world. The more they cave to online screeching and put men or fatties in the rating will still tank. Who the hell wants to see a trans model? Or a fat one? Sure, get away from the rail thin bulimic coke head look, but spare us the cottage cheese and crotch bulges!

There's probably a website where women are joking about short men buying their clothes in the children's section that someone on here will uncover and get outraged about.

Call me a hater if you like though, but I do wonder who these shows are for, and if they expect to sell to the average sized woman who wants to see how this underwear looks on them... ...then the shows are about to get much less presence.

I prefer my models to be thin/fit attractive with a pretty face

I seen beautiful women that come from all over the world that aren't not just white. The fashion industry used to find these models all around the world who fit the beauty standards. And they are all Fit and skinny. I agree if the the fugly chubbos, men and the trans women want their own fashion show, than just make their own than just trying to invade these fashion shows that aimed at straight men.

Hell even Straight Women and Lesbians (obviously) like to look at attractive fit/thin models that has a pretty face. I find it funny how the Chubbos are trying to change what straight men find attractive in women

I bought a sex doll, but I keep it inflated 100% of the time and use it like a regular wife

Exactly my man. The issue I see with "body positivity" is that it's quite unhealthy. Sure it's cool to have self-steem but, if you are fat, that's a health problem and should be treated with diet and exercise.

Telling our kids that being fucking fat is fine and even powerful and brave is going to costs us a lot on healthcare.

Yeah eating healthy and working out is key to a healthy lifestyle

I seen these chubbos act like guys who think that they have a chance with a girl who is above a eight in looks and they themselves don't take care of themselves

That shit fucking annoys me lol

Like it's a person own choice to be unfit and unhealthy but I can't stand when they feel entitled is all I'm saying

They can fuck up the english language, they can fuck up the hiring process, but they can't fuck up what humans find attractive after thousands of years.
Some things are immutable.

What sort of business is Victoria's Secret? One that sells videos of their shows to men or one that sells underwear that's mostly bought by women?

If it's the latter, I'd expect that they'll feature a bunch of women who more closely resemble their customer base.

Sad times guys. You could always combat this by putting an order in for a few thousand items in the sizes you approve of though.

Why?

Beautiful woman wears product on a TV show, average woman who wants to feel like the beautiful woman on TV goes and buys the product.

And the genre doesn't matter, it's the same for men.

What I find interesting whenever women see other women prettier than them they tend to get very catty and jealous. Instead of going to the gym to make themselves attractive they try to resort to shady tactics

While with men whenever other unfit men see these fit chad men in movies, shows etc, it's something to aspire to

I don't think that's how it works though. For decades women have been complaining about unobtainable beauty standards. The rise in popularity of models who don't look like the archetypical supermodels isn't driven by brands wanting to sell less stuff - you can bet that if it was negatively affecting the bottom line it wouldn't be happening.

This forum seems to have a crush on Henry Cavill so to use him as an example, if you want to feel like him, getting the same trousers and shirt that he wears is probably not going to make much difference to how you feel about yourself. You might actually feel pretty crap when you look at yourself in that outfit and bear no resemblance to what you have been repeatedly told is what handsome men look like.

I'm not saying you need to find the women on the catwalk attractive, but you're not really the customer.

We are talking about beauty and not everyone will agree on what beauty or attractiveness is. It's not objective but SUBJECTIVE...

This woman is curvy (boobs, hips, butt, thighs) ... She's beautiful to me (I've met her in person... Everything is real) ... She's beautiful and attractive

SybrXei.jpeg

Ashley Graham is plus size... She looks like many women out there... Especially after a kid or two. To ME, she's pretty and attractive as well.

These are some other plus size models I found that are pretty and at least FORWARD FACING attractive to me (don't know if their butts are round or not... And I mean it's shaped like the Letter C when seen from side profile)

I think these are the perfect "cut-off" sizes for a Victoria's Secret runway show. You have diversity in body shapes and sizes and they're STILL beautiful women.

I realize some guys LOVE them some girls who are much bigger than these women ... But they're in a minority. I don't have anything against them. I get that MANY of y'all do.

I think they're overcorrecting and it's making them look bad

Oh HELL NO. For starters, strip away the photoshop 'cause its a live event of them walking and NO ONE wants to see one of those ladies waddling away.

Second, VS is the IDEAL. Sure, sell that +++++ sized stuff that takes a yard of fabric to make one bra in the store, but feature the QUEENS in the ads and on the show! We gotta stop trying to normalize sugar addiction as some sort of "ok" thing when all the women you posted are gonna be suffering from diabetes, cancers, and heart attacks cause they are unhealthy as shit.

You're assuming (most of y'all are) that every woman can achieve a body like Tyra Banks or Sofia Vergara or Heidi Klum. The AVERAGE woman looks like what I posted physically... Obviously they won't all have faces like supermodels... But the body types (except for Khrysti) are what most average women look like.

Edit: women are the customers... Not men. Even the show is for women (mostly) and it helps the women are seen in lingerie for male eyes.

Don't get me wrong, I'd roll a few of them into the sack. But doesn't mean they should be walking the VS catwalk any more than some 50 year old dads playing a game of touch football should be in the SUPERBOWL. VS is the ELITE EVENT on the PLANET for this. It's 100% sexual! Literally wearing lingerie for getting guys horny to be DTF!

I don't need a double amputee, some chick with psoriasis, gay dudes, or a handful of sugar addicts that would be gasping for breath by the halfway mark on the runway ruining my harem fantasy!
