I liked the demo of Republic Commando from the KOTOR II disc. It had a decent feel to it and the trailer of the game still looks promising.

I'm sure the on-line play will be similar to R6III. Really, I don't even care for squad based games, and returned R6III after only a few hours of play. The demo of Republic Commando was pretty cool though. Kind of a blend of Metroid Prime, Rainbow Six, and Halo set in a Star Wars environment.

I'm seriously contemplating it, given all the praise and play you've been giving it. There's an Xbox version, right? Any problems with that?

It's down to Mercenaries, Oddworld, finally buying Transformers PS2, rebuying ZOE2 or saving it all for upcoming PSP titles. I just don't want to buy the game now, only to have hit a budget price by the time I play it.

You'd be best checking the thread about the game for more info, but from what I gather:

Xbox has (in contrast to the ps2)

Shorter load times
apparently bump-mapping


If you HDLoad the game on the PS2, it'll work smooth as silk, of course...But load times aren't that bad (maybe 10-15 seconds to load up a mission) in the first place. And I really can't figure how the control scheme would work on the Xbox controller, exactly. But eh.

I've got Mercs on the Xbox and it's great. Shorter load times for sure.

As for Republic Commando, I played the KOTOR II demo too, and wasn't impressed. It was average at best in my opinion. The environments seemed rather bland and the weapons in the demo did nothing to inspire me. The idea of a sci-fi squad based shooter is actually cool, especially in the Star Wars Universe, but the dem didn't do anything at all to inspire me to buy this game. Now, at release, the reviews may be great and there may be more to it then the demo implies. I hope so, because I really wanted to like the game.
