Video Game Nightmares

Ok, I had the most upsetting nightmare the other night about Animal Crossing: Wild World.

I had been playing this game pretty obsessively for about a week. Paid off Tom Nook a couple times, made myself at home with tons of musical Gyroids, and filled up the museum with fish and fossils. Unfortunately for Tom Nook and the rest of my residents, my attention was soon thereafter diverted for about a month by Sonic Rush. Not a single thought of Animal Crossing had entered my mind until the other night when this dream sprang into my head:

I turn on Animal Crossing, excited to see the happy faces of the fellow cats, elephants, chickens, and whathaveyou. My cute little mug appears in my town, only to discover a wasteland. Devoid of trees and grown over with weeds and dirt, Haplo (my town name) was practically lifeless. I ran around town, freaked out. Where the hell had my residents gone? Had I truly neglected them this badly?

An eerie wind blew through the desolate valley. I finally stumble upon a lone house, with an unfamiliar cat standing outside.

"Hmmm? Oh, you must be Michael. Yes, um, well it seems everyone left since you left this town to die. Me? Oh, I was hoping for some relaxation in this ghost town. You know, 'ghost town' implying there wouldn't be any other people here and all..."

Then the cat grabbed a suitcase, clearly annoyed that he wasn't in fact alone and left for good.

I woke up feeling incredibly distraught by my negligence. In fact, I'm so scared as to how bad the weeds may have gotten by now that I can't bring myself to play again, even though I want to. :(

Anybody else have strange video game nightmares?

god were sending you a message " hoooo mk, stop being such a nerd, animal crossings is gay, you need to get laid moreeee, you wouldn't wanna die alone, whooooo".................
i'd listen to them if i was you:)

I've dreamed about this guy a few times, both times it was the same dream. Its a dark night,I'm in the woods, and then I hear something break a few tree twigs, then there he is. :lol

I'm running my ass off, then its weird because the next thing I know I'm a a block away from my apartment. Almost there when I start running all slow motion like while he is gaining on me. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! He opens his mouth,I can hear hom hissing. He starts to shoot a fireball,it hits me,then I wake up.

I hate the damn dream, very creepy. Too many hours of Dooom brought this on I guess. Strangely enough-I have a friend who has dreamed something similiar with some of the Doom enemies.

when I first got metroid (I must've been 10 or 12) I kept having nightmares that I was stuck on a planet all alone.:(

I never had a nightmare, but when I was young (around 10 or 12) I used to play Tetris before bed and i'd dream about making Tetris patterns.

I've done this many times. I used to have Starcraft dreams too. Any game requiring a lot of strategic thinking tends to stick in my head long after I've put down the controller/keyboard. Obsessive personality ftl.

I had a nightmare recently where I was in a really kick ass retro arcade being chased by zombies. I fucking HATE zombies. :(. At least I had Bub and Bob to help me out.

The Bubble Bobble theme was playing the whole time too so it was really weird/creepy.

I remember a dream from way back when I was playing Ocarina of Time in which I lived in one of those spider houses. I think I may have been raised by spiders, so I was used to them and it wasn't directly scary, but still. Weird and creepy-ish.

When the Rapture comes, Nook will come and rape those of us who are left. With his massive, spiky member.

A long time ago when I played Ragnarok Online for a few months straight I had a dream before I quit:

I was leaving my house at night, and I casted a spell to give light around me (like in RO) and then this thing drops down like a giant metal long legged spider thing, and Jeff Goldblum's head was on it, and he started eating people. I ran away and went into a cave that just shouldn't be where it was, and he was coming towards the cave and chomping around and I woke up.

Not so much a nightmare, but I remember after reading that Working Designs closed up, I dreamed that WD was actually located in a house in my neighborhood, and I would go over and help out trying to convince Vic not to close up shop.

I think its funny that my subconscious felt that much guilt over not playing Animal Crossing anymore.

I totally had similar dreams about digging my way down into sewers and causing different colored blocks to destroy each other in amazing combos, ala Mr. Driller.

I just had a dream last night that Che called me up from his new job, and wanted me to go interview a couple of game developers for a new web show. I was riding a bike at the time, along a really busy street, and I could hardly hear him. I told him I'd have to call him back.

I pulled over to the side of the road, and all of a sudden I had two cell phones. I couldn't find Che's number on either of them, although one of the phones was a next-gen Razr that looked really really cool, there were no buttons you just had to know where to press (lol).

I looked over at the mall near where I pulled over, and NASA was testing out a new ride. It was this space shuttle looking thing that could take 3 people up at a time, on bungie cords, and when they got high enough, they would drop the people, who only had tiny parachutes, and then the ride operators on the ground would have to catch them. All the ride operators were wearing NASA suits, and they were explaining to me how they are working on a new version of the ride so that 5 people can go up at once, and they would make more money.

Just then an alarm went off and they needed to catch someone falling down. I tried to get out of their way, but every direction I ran, I was in the way, and they were not able to catch the guy falling to the ground, and he died.

Again, not a nightmare, but I suffered from playing too much Hexic not too long ago.
I'd be making clusters in my mind all day and seeing it when I shut my eyes, even to the point where I was struggling to get to sleep because my head was so busy.
I've never had a game effect me in that way before.

I have had a Dino Crisis induced nightmare that ended in a raptor jumping across a pond to slash me. I'm surprised I haven't had more survival horror based dreams.

RegularMK that was hilarious! Hmm I have alot but I would have to say some of EQ dreams I had from 99-02 were beyond trippy. MS Drugs + playing too much in Plane of Hate, Fear or Nightmare =lucid evil chaos.

Maybe Peter Moore should see to EQ replacing FFXI as the 360's first mmorpg...

Back when I was obsessed (and I mean OBSESSED) with Medieval: Total War, I had nightmares about being on a battlefield. Let me tell you, seeing a wall of knights charge at you is not nice :lol

I have alot of video game related dreams (Not necessarily nightmares though,) the best I think is the one where I was using RPG Maker XP to edit real life.

Back when I first beat MGS2 I had a nightmare that night where someone started speaking outloud, waking me up and when I opened my eyes, the Colonel was standing right there in the room all shiny and with his skull face talking incoherently, just like in Arsenal Gear.

Worst part was that I couldn't move or speak.

And back when I was in second grade I had what I call a double, one of those dreams where you suddenly appear in school, without any pants on, and as I left school to go home and put some pants, I was chased off by a pair of Abobos.

I'm pretty good at DDR IRL. At least once every 2 weeks I dream I'm playing a DDR that has a strange, fan-modified platform. I always get tons of boos and misses, become very confused and wake up. :lol

I had a horrible nightmare about Satan's Hollow back in 1999. I was in an indoor fleamarket in the boonies scouting for Vectrexes and other things, and had found some great rare (read: nonexistent) 2600 stuff. All of a sudden, the flea market owner turned into a demon. I dropped the carts, ran outside, and realized that waves of devil aliens were descending from the sky. I thought sumguy hired them to scare me away.

Yeah, so needless to say I don't thrift-shop much anymore.

P.S. Dave Theurer had the best video game nightmares ever. They turned into Tempest and Missile Command.
