Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | February 2013 | The most desirable handheld in Japan

As a genuine question (don't think of me as a "hater" or anything) - but wouldn't you guys rather have some proper handheld games on the system?

With games like Wipeout, Uncharted and Killzone - why wouldn't I just play them on a PS3? The audiovisual experience that those games are going for is surpassed easily by home consoles. The only Killzone that would get me excited on a portable is another top down one - using the touch to direct your units or something.

Games like Tearaway, Sound Shapes etc are the games that will make me a buy a Vita - much like how FF:TA, The World Ends With You and Bowser's Inside Story made me get a DS.

I have 60 minutes each day of subway commute - and i get bored with shitty mobile games after few minutes apart from tower defences. So i need real console quality games on the go :)

If i had 3DS i'd be playing Zelda, SMT and Tales of Abyss ;)

edit: Top of page so buy Motorstorm RC and Super Stardust HD

There's nothing about Final Fantasy Tactics A2 that's different than WipEout 2048, Uncharted: Golden Abyss, and Killzone: Mercenary. All of them are console IPs that were brought to handhelds with a new game that used the existing gameplay mechanics. The only thing guaranteed to be better if the game was on a console is the visuals, and in that case every handheld game ever would look better on its console counterpart.

And a bad one if you ask me...

@ Moobabe - The games are often good enough that I would sacrifice the slight visual fidelity for the immense gains in convenience with vita games. Especially when only playing for short amounts at a time, or while doing other things, not wanting to be locked down to a certain place with all these other devices consuming power at the same time.

Recently been jumping into a pre-set PSASBR match that I enjoy. Every few hours, I jump into the game within seconds, play a couple times and standby it for later.

I don't mind any ports. Rarely would I prefer to play the game on PS3 over Vita, it's just so suitable for so many games.

Hi all,

I've been thinking about my next game purchase for my Vita.

I'm currently working on P4G, but once I finish that, I'd like to hop into a Monster Hunter-esque game.

I'm mostly trying to decide between God Eater Burst and Ragnarok Odyssey. (I suppose Freedom Unite could be thrown into the mix too).

I'm new to the genre but it has always intrigued me. Any advice on which one would be better for someone who hasn't played one before?

Also it's unlikely that I will be playing it with friends, as none of mine own Vitas.

Thanks!

Gods Eater Burst. MH:FU may be too hard for a newcomer and Ragnarok can be rather dull.

There is no guarantee for this.

Literally not one of these games are anything close to 'garbage'. I'm beginning to wonder if you even like video games at all.

Okay, thanks! That's sort of what I have been leaning towards.

Quick question if you are familiar with it.

Would Monster Hunter Tri for Wii be a good game to check out the genre on, or would still be a little too hardcore?

My friend has a copy of it and I have a pro controller for my Wii so I was thinking about borrowing it.

Kind of a weird time to play Tri with 3-Ultimate coming out in March. Demo in Feb. But Tri is the most beginner friendly of the series from what I've seen.

XSEED published Ragnarok Odyssey and Dokuro in the US before GungHo made the EU announcements.

FYI, Dokuro was published GungHo U.S., not by us. We did publish Ragnarok Odyssey, however.

Where is Wake Up Club for Australia? x_x

It's still asleep.

which blog does AU use?

Australia is SCEE territory if I'm not mistaken.

Yeah that's what I thought, it should be available then :/

http://au.playstation.com/

Australia has it's own PlayStation Homepage, no blog or twitter associated but there is a fb page. Maybe try asking around there.

Games often have different AU and EU release dates from what I've seen:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heavenly_Sword (old example)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uncharted:_Golden_Abyss (more relevant example)

So it's hard to tell for sure since NA and EU Blogs/Twitter have some of the best communication for things like that. And it seems like a lot of stuff for AU mirrors EU, lots of vita games that i looked up on Wikipedia don't have AU release dates, so I'm assuming that meant they were identical to EU.

There are still different rating boards for EU and Australia and all kinds of different logistics problems compared to Europe which means some games have different release dates and such. But that doesn't change that Australia is a SCEE territory.

I don't think Tsutomu Kuono work for SCEJ anymore, so I doubt there will be any new LocoRoco ever again.

I often come in here to amuse myself with these Toto rants. They seemingly get more bizarre the more time passes by.

Taking the plunge and going to buy a Vita. I have PS+ and seeing those Vita games available for me (which I've "purchased" already) has tempted me, as has the good amount of PSN games available, PS1/PSP games and games like Persona 4. And since I just got paid, now feels like a good time.

I'm from the UK, so any good deals going around at the moment? Currently I've got a Wi-Fi LBP Vita bundle, a 32GB memory card and the starter kit in my Amazon basket at a total of £296.98 which doesn't seem too bad. And LBP, Uncharted, Gravity Rush and a bunch of PS1 games I could transfer over would keep me occupied for a good while until I buy Persona 4 and some PSN games. Anyone think I could get all that for cheaper elsewhere? I suppose I could take away the starter kit, but that leather case looks the sex.

It's an okay price. I paid £195 for WiFi, 4gb, Rayman and the starter kit. On the basis of that you might be overpaying for the 32gb and LBP, but I haven't exactly been checking online UK retailers. My guess is you could probably get the same stuff for closer to £270, although I think the system is worth the extra if you really want it.

£217.99 for the LBP 4GB WiFi Vita bundle, £19 for the starter kit and £59.99 for the 32GB memory card.

I would have liked to have bought the Vita when it was cheaper around the Christmas period but at the time I had no money coming in. But since things are now stable I want to get in. Bad timing really.

Ouch, the UK really get screwed on the bundles. Assassin's Creed comes in black instead of white, and with a download code instead of a physical copy (depending on preference). Although to be fair, they false advertise a cased copy on the box when it's a loose-cart inside.

I'd personally avoid investing so much into a 32GB unless you want to go all-in on digital downloads, I'm sure the prices will drop soon enough.

Personally I opted to grab one used. I wanted a white one which came out recently (and is now seemingly out of production), managed to get it for $180, $70 off sans the game. Though I'm focusing entirely on physical games, so the 4GB will work for me.

Yeah, I know that problem, haha.

I can't really spend the time right now to help you find a better price (although of course I'm happy to help any prospective Vita owner) but I'm fairly confident you can at least knock off a few pounds on the starter kit. Didn't realise the 4gb was a pack-in, that's ~£10 right there.

Whatever you choose to do, have fun with the system and drop by if you need anything.

I'll do some digging around :)

nerdstick makes a good point about the 32gb, are you sure you need one from the off? Maybe think about how you're gonna use it and which Plus games you want to play first.

Although the counter argument to that is you won't know until it's in your hands! 32gb seems like a pretty liberating thing to have.

Well you could get Vita+LBP for 199 euros from amazon.de but they use diffrent electrical plugs than UK + they add few euros for transport.

Surely you can hang on a bit longer?

Sony pretty much said that they couldn't afford to price-cut last year but they will this year.

May even revise the hardware to improve battery life.

In most cases I'd go physical over download, but currently I have Uncharted, Gravity Rush and Jet Set Radio from PS+ that I'd be transferring over. Add to that any other games that get added to PS+ and some PS1/PSP/PSN games that I could also potentially transfer over, but probably not too many at once.

I guess 16GB might suit me better for the time being.

Gun Commando is alright (should've been $1.99 tho) cool artstyle too, nice mindless tiny time waster.

Elaborate! I was actually interested in it when I was looking up stuff about it, but I think it was Blue Maxima here that said it wasn't very good.
