Wanda / Shadow of the Colossus: New Interview, New Trailer, etc.

i'll bet marketing made them change the name from wanda and the colossus to shadow of the colossus. shadow sounds so much cooler!... :/

one thing i am worried about, is the fact that the game looks very action based. i think we can all agree that the highlight of ico was the environment and the puzzles. the action left something to be desired...

hopefully, the puzzles are still in there and they've developed a deeper combat system. i guess i'm gonna have to buy a ps2 just to play this badboy.

Wanda and Colossus was a lame name. I liked "The Wanderer and The Colossus" better, though.

Shadow of the Colossus ain't bad though.

I think it's pretty clear the combat is decidedly different from ICO. At least in that aspect it seems to have gotten a very noteworthy overhaul.

A MGS3 avatar and no PS2. Shame on you!

Some impressive scenery in there. I still can't quite understand how the exploring will be in this game. How do i find the colossi? What will I be doing in between? I guess they are showing just a tiny bit of the iceberg for stunning gameplay surprises in there. Anyway, this game can't come soon enpugh.

Interesting quote from Kaido:

It'd be easy for us to use music to inspire emotion, but it's sort of fake, in a way. We want the users to involve their own emotion with the game. We want to make it feel as if the game world is real. Using too much music would ruin this mood.

Impressive. I found the music somewhat lacking though especially the way it ended. It tried to make the adventure seem very epic but failed flat imo. I love the Colossus's though fantastic looking.

flat???
man you got to be kidding!

i loved it, while watching the trailer i got the feeling of how Huge the world is, god let the world be so big that it will take you hours and hours to just ride across the world map.

i love it in ICO when its hardly no music it creats a great atmosphear and it lets me the player to creat my own emotions as the guy in the interview said.

hope they do the same in this game.

I love the climbing giants thing, its so much cooler than slashing them in the foot...or hitting their tail with a big hammer (for example). Is that the actual meat of the game? Or are those bosses?

Looking at it kinda makes me wish they'd held it for PS3 though (especially as i imagine by the time europe gets it PS3 will be out in some parts of the world), its obvious theres some amazing art in play but the enviroments (from that trailer anyway) are a let down, and everything looks kinda grainy, imagine how crisp and full of life it could have been on next gen hardware.

Im not a big fan of the music either, but from the interview i get the impression that it wont be used a lot anyway so im not worried there.

No, dont..why would you want that?

The score fell flat yes. It failed to invoke a sense of a "Grandeur Adventure" while the Giants themselves more than provoke that feeling. That may be enough but I was comparing the score to recent scores in those Zelda trailers. It could be slightly better and I want it to be. I'm not dissin the whole game I just didn't feel the score as much as I should of.

I'm 99% sure this will be my GOTY, but watching the new trailer I can see they still have a lot of optimization to do. There're some jerky animations there, and it seems to be pushing the hardware way beyond its limits.

Best theme music ever, btw.

Yup! Can't wait for this game.

thnx for the link

edit: most of the footage is old, some new stuff in there though.

I'm looking more forward to this game than I am the new Zelda. I knew these guys had talent. Kudos to Fumito Ueda.

From the HUD, it looks like the colossi have many vulnerable parts, not just the head. I was worried that killing a colossus would be a bit too simple if all you need to do is reach his head, but if there are multiple vulnerable points and you have to hit them all, it will make the gameplay much more challenging.

Can't wait for this game.

They changed the name because in English it kinda make no sense to have your lead male character named Wanda.

The trailer was fucking fantastic, I loved how the leaves react to the raindrops. Loved the music too, both themes. Die haters. :P

More recent music that can be found somewhere on the game's website is a better produced than what can be heard in these (old) trailers. Some of the melodies are the same, but It sounds much better orchestrated.

Really...the music on the site doesn't sound that much better to me, guess I'll check it out again. It's probably really old for you(and everyone else), but a few days ago I found out that IGN has a Wanda trailer with music being played live by an orchestra. It's pretty cool. :P

Yeah, I think that little performance was at TGS. If anything, music on the website has some new melodies, not just the two from the trailers. I actually like those new ones even better. There's one that sounds like some kind of Russian classical rendition of walking giant. Very theatrical. At laeast it sounds that way to me :P

Just checked out the entire site. There's only one new melody, what I guess to be the horse's theme(since it's played in the "Horse" section). The rest is just a 5-10 second loop of the acoustic guitar stuff we've been hearing since forever. :P

Damn I hope this game doesn't go the ICO route, I really love the pieces I've listened to so far, and I think they would work well within the game...specially "Horse". :P

Then where the hell have I got this SWF (flash file) that has a 3 minutes long MP3 in it, that has at least 5-6 melodies mixed one after another. I even have extracted the MP3 file out of it. I was almost sure I got it somewhere on the game's website.

Dude, www.yousendit.com plzkthnx.

Just put anything in the e-mail address, once the file is uploaded it'll give you a link to where you can get it. Just paste the link in this thread. :p

Ahh, the new trailer was simply a longer version of the original showing. I was really hoping for some really new stuff here...

Thanks a bunch Marconelly! The mp3 is pretty awesome. Now that I think about it, I remember there was a "music" section on the site, it would play along with images. It seems to have been deleted. I guess that's where you got it from. :P

Normally I try not to anticipate a game too much, because I fear dissapointment... BUT I CAN'T HELP IT :)

I can't wait for this game.

Technologically this game is very interesting. ICO was one of the first games I recall that used inverse kinematics to keep the player's feet on the ground on uneven surfaces. Now Shadow goes even farther by using a completely dynamic object as the "ground." I wonder how much control you have over your character's balance and footing on the collossus. When you reach a point when you should start falling off do you need to start tapping butons or wiggling analog sticks to keep your footing? Should be some interesting gameplay.
