Wander and the Colossus website opens

I thought it was Wanda?

WTF

edit: If you have a 450mhz computer and 128 MB of ram, I wouldn't suggest going to this site.

-_-

Transliteration error. The Japanese title literally translates to The Wanderer and the Giant.

It's still Shadow of the Colossus in the West.

If it were "wanderer," don't you think it would at least end in a long vowel? "Wandaa" instead of "wanda."

Note that the Japanese version was delayed from 9/8->10/2- and the US date is just the generic 9/2005. So the US version may be delayed until october too.

Yes, because skirting bog standard videogame design conventions can only lead to public skepticism and shit poor sales.

To me, that was one of the poorer aspects of Ico (the combat, specifically), I thought the shadow creatures were a cool idea, if not a little repetitive. I think not having regular enemies between bosses will lend a desolate, lonely feel to the areas. I think it's a cool idea, and certainly something unique the game is attempting.

The game looked so horrible at E3 (Graphically). It's not really a problem with the game, just with the widescreen TVs that distorted the game and made it look terrible.

I like that the developers are trying something new...And I definitely see what their going for, and if done right it could be really cool. But I'm not sure if they can pull it off.

Despite that, I thought it looked great. Only problem was the framerate, but I'm not too worried about that. And the final game will have widescreen support as well...

I KNOW I read somewhere yesterday (here?) that the U.S. release date was 9/20, the same day as Everyone Loves Katamari. Who knows though. Unless you're suggesting the delay happened between then and now. Not trying to argue or anything, just curious.

Yah that's the date i've seen. ICO was also released in the US before Japan so Shadow might not get delayed in the US.

Wanda (the name) and Wanderer sound alike in japanese, thus, the name.
It's a joke on pronuntiation thing (like Okami, for PS2).

It was renamed Shadow of the Colossus to the western hemisphere because a guy named wanda = wtf and the play with the name would be lost.

Also, what kinda bums me out is that it's always the same colossus. All gameplay footage/demos/screenshots i've seen are from the same colossus. I know they're being secretive but cmon... show me a different one!

Well the delay from Sept->Oct in Japan just happened like 4 days ago, which I guess means some last minute thing came up. Could affect the US release too.

or it could mean US is getting the game first again like ICO, except we'll get shafted in terms of extras and unlockable content!

btw, gamespot had a definite date when they reported the delay:

According the latest issue of Famitsu magazine, the long-anticipated PlayStation 2 game Shadow of the Colossus won't be hitting Japan until October 27, well over a month after its September 20 release in the States. Shadow of the Colossus is the sophomore effort from the internal team at SCEI that produced 2001's critically acclaimed adventure game ICO. Directed by Fumito Ueda and produced by Kenji Kaido, the title is not a direct sequel, although it shares much of the first game's graphic style.

and here's the boxart

Simply stunning. Can't fucking wait for this one. Probably my most anticipated title of the year. The website rocks with the movies, but I need some wallpaper dammit.

Wander? WANDER?

Sounds like one of the English accents where any trailing "ah" sound gets turned into an "er" sound (i.e. "I just bought a Honda Accord" turns into "I just bought a Honder Accord").

I'd be amazed if that's the boxart when there's already a better logo used by SCEA, like the one at the end of this video

I'll be annoyed if Japan gets extras the US version doesn't have again. Though there's only a one-month gap this time.

I can't wait for this game! I've got a feeling it's going to be one of the surprises of the year when we see just how beautiful and epic it actually is

what the hell is wrong with that box cover?

It's about 50 fucking steps up from ICO's US box...

Did you make it or something?

The font sucks, and out of all the colossi shown so far, that one is hardly the coolest-looking.

But you're right, far and away better than Ico's U.S. box art.

I want to see the PAL box of this game. The ICO PAL box rocks and if this gets a special box too I'll get the PAL version of it.

I don't feel like bringing the media blackout club thread back from the dead, so I'll just ask here: has this game been getting positive impressions? I've steered clear of media since that first day it was announced.

It's absolutely killing me that I can't look at media/impressions/news on this or Zelda. Especially because I'm afraid to even enter any threads on this as someone is surely going to post screenshots.

Anyway, that's the only question I have. Spoiler-free if at all possible! :)

No shit. All of you better appreciate it or they'll have an extreme closeup of the heroes face again or some BS like that.

from that trailor, it looks like the framerate has been improved dramatically since e3. be interesting to see how that pans out. that is a brilliant web trailor, btw.

what did the last issue of edge say? they said something regarding wanda at e3 like, "you know you shouldnt take a peek but you just have to?" kindof on point.

For what it's worth, I've played the E3 demo and for me it was the game of the show (you know how much I loved Ico, and I know how much you loved it so it could mean you'd like Colossus too). There were some nagging technical issues, but for a game like this, I just didn't care much about them. Overal feeling of climbing on that colossus was very overwhelming and it felt very organic, for the lack of better word. In the sense of giving you some kind of never before seen experience, I thought the game felt more next-gen than any actual next gen game playable on the show...

Don't get me wrong, there were some people here who complained about those technical issues, and whatnot, but there were also people who were flaberghasted by it, just like myself.

i'm right there with you man... i played it there and i loved it.
i was a little upset to see the spiritual successor to Ico go in such a different route....

but once i got my hands on it.. (mind you this was AFTER i came off the Twilight Princess Demo) i seriously felt like THIS is what i really wanted to see in a new zelda game... in a new any kind of fantasy game....

shining the sword across the plains... searching for the beast.... riding fast as you approach its gaze.... then leaping onto to the giant..... and slaying the------
geeez.

i'm such a nerd.....

*waits more for this game than "played it all before" Zelda*

Heh, I also had a small crowd of people behind cheering for me while I was climbing and killing the giant. I wasn't sure how I felt about killing it though. It's hard to say whether those giants are some kind of menace that world would be better without, or some noble ancient creatures that I'm killing for my selfish needs.
