Warcraft 3 TFT's DOTA Allstars Appreciation Thread!

Anyone here plays DOTA? It's probably the most remarkable custom game to ever spawn out of the Campaign Editors in Starcraft and Warcraft 3. Basically, the creator made this entirely new and unique game by using the Campaign Editor in WC3.

The game involves you choosing a hero right from the start and you have to work your way towards the opponnents' base. Creeps will spawn from your base and the opponents' base and will move along 3 predetermined lanes. Your hero can reach a maximum level of 25 and has three basic and one ultimate skill, just like the normal game.

What I like about it is that a complete game takes about an hour to finish. It's great when I need a quick gaming fix. But it's also extremely addictive as well. Most heroes are extremely well-balanced and there are all kinds of unique skills. The game is extremely strategic and involves a lot of teamwork. There are lots of different items to choose from and item strategies are essential to character-building since various items can be combined into more powerful "recipe" items.

Anyway, it's a really great game overall and I believe it truly deserves some recognition.

My main gripe? It's extremely hard to get a good game going on battle.net since lots of people choose to leave halfway through a game. 5v5 matches can quickly degenerate into 5v3 because some people choose to leave early when they screw up with their heroes. It's extremely annoying and is exemplary of one of biggest problems with online gaming.

Sucks you have to play through battle.net, Have you ever played it in a LAN party environment? Godly.

It's fun when I don't feel like thinking, that is playing the real game. It's a fun diversion. I prefer games like Zone Control as far as custom maps go.

The heroes really arn't balanced, as you say they are. Rather all ranged heroes > non ranged heroes for the most part. Items are very imballenced, and some high level moves are too powerful.

Well, I stay in dorm and we can usually find enough people to get in a great 4v4 session every night on the college LAN....

No the heroes are quite balanced. With the exception of the naga siren and necrolic which are useless.

And ranged heroes aren't necessarily better.

It goes like this:

-> = beats

Ranged Agility heroes -> Strength heroes & melee agility heroes-> Intelligence heroes -> Ranged Agility heroes.

How does one play this?

The only time I play on battle.net (which hasn't been for a long while) is to play 4v4.

Log on to battle.net and click on the Custom Games button and you will see a list of games to play. And the list is usually flooded with DOTA games so it shouldn't be any problem getting into a game at all.

I suggest you download the map online first because there are lots of dicks on battle.net who will you boot you from the game the moment they see you getting the file from them.

DOTA is GREAT on Vanilla. Only game I played on WC for a good 3 weeks.

Never bothered getting TFT, actually... because I was completely turned off by it by the beta... just changed the game and I wasn't into that. But DOTA is definitely one of the best Custom Maps of all time. Lotta fun when you can find a real game. Even better when you can find multiple good players...

Yay DOTA!
