Wargaming’s World Of Tanks Coming To Steam In 2021
The MMOG, developed by Belarusian company Wargaming, features midcentury era combat vehicles.
World of Tanks, a massively multiplayer online game (MMOG) developed by Belarusian company Wargaming, which features midcentury era combat vehicles, is coming to Steam in 2021. The free-to-play military game, which was first released online on April 12, 2011, in Europe and North America, has received generally favorable reviews on all platforms.
Wargaming, headquartered in Nicosia, Cyprus, originally focused on turn-based strategy and real-time strategy games. Since 2009, however, the studio has developed free-to-play online action games in 2009, including World of Tanks, World of Warships and World of Warplanes.
Although World of Tanks on Steam will be available cross-platform with the current version of World of Tanks, players won’t be able to import their existing progress. The Steam edition of the game will only be available to those who create new accounts yet will have the same features as the current Wargaming version.
“We’ve always wanted to make sure World of Tanks was available to everyone, so it’s a natural step that we welcome the Steam community to our family,” World of Tanks global publishing director Max Chuvalov said. “Soon, Steam users will be able to enjoy the hard-hitting battles only our game provides, and we really hope they enjoy them.”
In the game, players control a single armored tank that enters into battle on a random map. Players can control the tank's movement, firing, and communicate with allied players and all the other players via text or voice chat. A simple random match can be won either by destroying all tanks on the opposing team or capturing the opposing team's base camp.
World of Tanks contains multiple game mechanics, including camouflage, shell ricochets, and module damage. Players can select six primary types of battles: random battles, team-training battles, tank-company battles, team battles, stronghold battles and special battles.
World of Tanks, which was released for PC in 2010, was initially only available on its own launcher. In 2019, it was available exclusively on Wargaming.net. By 2020, the game had more than 160 million players. The mobile version of the game, World of Tanks Blitz, was released on Steam in 2016.
