Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War - Definitive Edition Announced

I was gonna get it but no veteran discount for based OG physical owners like me means

Sorry Shark Tank GIF by ABC Network
They definitely need to change that, you guys pay more than us Anniversary Edition users so it's only fair you should get the veteran discount too. Not sure what they're thinking with this decision. Hopefully they update the deal but at the very least the game would still go on some eventually 30% sure or even a 50% eventually.

Got it last night and played online a few games, but really nice to get back into it and the graphics are decent enough, I was a bit worried the graphics would be really bad. Glad I bought it anyway.

I'm so hyped about this game. I played it to death already (mostly dark crusade for the fantastic campaign), but it's still my number one release this year and I'd happily pay for the upgrade.

That says a lot about my current gaming tastes. A remaster of a 20 year old RTS is my most anticipated game of the year. I'm pretty much retro exclusive now.

Never played any campaign

Where do i start? Should i skip something? Play some first?
Campaign order would be

Dawn of War -> Winter Assault -> Dark Crusade -> Soulstorm

Dark Crusade and Soulstorm's campaigns are meant to be the more replyable type since there's a war map where things will play a bit differently every time.

and Soulstorm is not massivly better or something? is it still worth playing the first Dawn of war campaign?

(will i burn out before getting to the good stuff basically)

In my opinion, DoW original campaign is one of the best ones in general RTS games.

But if you are thinking that you'll force yourself, you shouldn't force yourself for any game.

If you don't care to experience all the lore/story bits than you could skip straight to Dark Crusade/Soul Storm especially Soul Storm since it's the one where all the latest mods will be made for. Although the strongholds for each faction are better made in Dark Crusade.

Dark Crusade and Soul Storm both have the solar system conquest campaign style where all 8/9 factions battle for conquest.

While Dawn of War and Winter Assaults campaign are like the usual story campaigns similar to Warcraft/starcraft/red alert/tiberium wars so if u don't care too much about wanting all story bits than u could skip them.

thanks

will go for Dawn of war campaign first - enjoy 40K stories quite a bit and have played DoW 2 (really liked) and 3 (not really liked)

Could not play this before since, well, it felt really old. This release fixes those problems

What do you mean that Dark Crusade has better Stronggholds? Tried starting up both campaigns and Crusade and Soulstorm seem similar with Soulsstorm having a larger scope? Is that just better?

The factions in Dark Crusade have cooler capital maps aka their main base/final stand compared to Soulstorm so it's worth playing through DC's campaign at least once while Soulstorm will be the one you'll stick with afterwards since all the big mods will be made for it.

And definitely play through DOW and Winter Assault especially since you already played DOW 2 and liked it.

Agreed that they dropped the ball with DOW 3 which is a shame since they were able to introduce the Necron into the story.

I'm hoping DOW 4 combines the large scale army and base building of DOW 1 and the war gear and more story focus style of DOW 2 for the best possible version.

Had no clue this is out today, time to purge some heretics.

So has anyone already tried if Ultimate Apocalpyse work out of the gate?
Some suggest waiting a week or two for ultimate apocalypse since they are doing an update on it. The unification mod works right out the gate thought, think unification is the biggest mod for DoW these days so check that out if you haven't.

I woke up with a feeling of wonder, as if a field of flowers was blossoming nearby; a child was saved from death; a thousand heretics were burning alive, begging and sobbing and howling.

17k on Steam

I have the anniversary edition, but no discount, weird.
Did you scroll down? The veteran discount is the second option below the normal price. Some one on Steam a few days also though he didn't have a discount u til he scrolled down. If you still don't have it then it's a pretty shitty bug.
