Warhammer 40,000 |OT| In the Grim Darkness of the Community Forum There Is Only War

Not all the tech. Only very specialised one's like Teleportation.

Ships and weapons are made by templates and what no set before hand and most of it is known to them or known from reverse engineering. Again, certain specialised weapons and vehicles cannot be recreated and thus are only used when of vital importance.

Oh. It's such a cool universe, god damn. Bleak as shit. Who's the space marine Jesus looking guy in the gold armour with the flaming sword then? I always thought he was the emperor, not the rotting corpse wired to technology.

This movie is basically humanity first discovering the Warp.

The ultra high ups in the Mechanicus probably know how to make most shit go

But they also guard this knowledge incredibly jealously

I recently decided to start painting up Tyranids again, after a few years break from them. Despite how awful the army is mechanically, I love painting those gribblies.

Looking forward to getting my packages in the mail.

Noob question here, is there anything like nukes in 40k?Most of the artwork I've seen makes me think that there isn't.

Jesus, 8/10 of the crew? Then each ship can only make one jump ever, right?

That's off, more of an extreme scenario than anything.

Though if I do remember correctly, the Imperium sacrifices thousands of those with psychic powers each day so that the Emperor can live on.

Nukes? Sure thing. But then the Imperium can go one better, and really turn things up to 11:

In the Horus Heresy series of books has the actual fight between the Emperor and Horus happened yet?

Btw, anyone in here read a version (as there are many) of the mythical fluff bible?
I've got a copy myself from about five years back. Very enjoyable read, and if anything a good primer for a general overview of the 40k background.

Confession : I bought ultramarines and played around 5-10 hours just to look at the locales in 3d because i had spent a good amount of time sifting through the lexicanum awhile back. I kept playing even though i really wasn't enjoying the game. I saw parts of a titan in 3d! worth! The awesomeness of 40K transcends critical thinking.

Let's be honest now. SoB are dick-envy wannabe SM. What self-respecting power armour wearing person listens to Inquisitors like lap dogs?

I really hated that part of the SoB lore. Why the hell are they a branch of the Inquisition. They clearly had their own shit going on.

I love the concept of the 40k universe but never gone deeper than the Relic games. So they basically have forgotten how the technology works? How do they make new ships and weapons? Or do they just have so many that it doesn't matter?

Think of it like Greek fire or Roman concrete (which I know we just rediscovered, but no one knew how to make it forever before that).

Uhhh the Grey Knights and Deathwatch are chambers militant of the Inquisition...

Then of course there's the Red Hunters.

Thinking about it, this must be one of my, if not the, favorite visual depiction of female fighters across sci-fi/fantasy.

Loved this take an a female arbite:

But yeah, the soritas are pretty special.

It's funny how rarely they are shown with helmets in the art and on the models when they look so cool with them.

They are part of the Inquisition but aren't lackies to an Inquisitor.

I refuse to believe a Grey Knight goes about doing his thing under the leadership of an Inquisitor. The Deathwatch are just temps who are there to help out Inquisitors because they aren't tough enough to hack it themselves.

Whereas the SoB are beholden to the Ecclesiarchy, which means their basically used by Inquisitors whenever one feels like it.

I just noticed with all the SoB talk, they are there.

Under the "Inquisition" section!

Edit: Wahey the Eldar banner is up. Guys, some feed back on the banners would be great. My SM one has the text aesthetics as though made by a cripple :(

I'm aghast at how difficult it is to put a book from the Black Library onto an iPad. The instructions say something about syncing. I can't remember the last time the iPad was plugged into a PC, let alone synced to something. What am I missing?

Mate, can't you just drag and drop it onto an iPad ebook folder?

As long as it's got a valid ebook file type it should be able to read it.

Also great tag, BG2 is the greatest rpg of all time.

Thank you, that was it. Jeez, that's very meta of them. Like the art of getting their ebooks to go straight to iBooks or the Kindle app was lost on a feral world sometime during the age of strife.

You probably might want to read up on Krieg. During the crusades chem, bio and nuclear weapons were used also.

But typically there are better alternatives.
There are nukes but the weapons the Imperium can employ make nukes look like cap guns
But why do the artwork sometimes show a hundred thousand units engaged in ground battle? Do they have some technology that renders weapons of mass destruction useless and the only way to do battle is on the ground or something?

Entire worlds are devoted to certain things like Agriculture, Industry, etc.

You can't just nuke the fuck out of all of them. You have to try and gain back these worlds to fuel your Empire. In a universe where everyone is short on space really, you kind of want to hold on to what you have.

Do the enemies of the imperium reason like this as well? I could probably see some worlds holding value to all involved but there must have been a couple of cases where a big battle ended with a nuke going of from the losing side as there clearly isn't any rules of war in this world.

The Imperium only tends to go nuclear or worse when things are really going down shit creek without a paddle. Generally with them, it's cheaper to throw millions of Imperial Guardsmen at the problem (clad in tshirts and armed with torches) than use expensive and possibly rare tech that could destroy the planet and render it partly or fully useless.

'Nids want to gobble up all bio-matter on a planet once they've cleared out any resistance.
The Tau want to colonise anything they can.
Orks just want to....be Orks.
Necrons want tomb worlds IIRC.
The Chaos gods want victims or troops to use to their own ends
Eldar want to survive and cling on I guess? Not to sure on their aims or objectives.

So generally the factions have little use in blowing up worlds for shits and giggles, only when necessity dictates it.

The Imperium is considerably more unreasonable than any of the other races. They are stubborn as fuck, and sometimes instead of saving millions of lives by nuking the fuck out the enemy, they will commit to it because there are so many humans, they don't give a fuck.

You'll be surprised how many worlds are considered "worth it" by several races due to a variety of reasons. However, sometimes some insane shit goes down. If the Imperium considers a world too far under Chaos influence they don't just nuke the enemy; the obliterate the entire planet in an act called Exterminatus.

The key thing to take away from all of this is that the Humans are extremely stubborn and don't do shit in a rational manner. The Eldar are up there too with their holier-than-thou shit.

Fuuuuuuuuu, I spent hours reading up on Wh40k lore D:

The Tau are fucking saints in comparison to the other races.
Their nefarious side is pretty tame imho.

I don't see what you are saying.

They did some stuff under the decree of the Inquisition. They don't follow individual Inquisitor's around as though they were a guard dog. The SoB though are specifically there for the whims of Inquisitors.

It's quite well known that Space Marines like to be beholden to their own, and do not get along well with Inquisitor's. They merely tolerate them. However following the the decision of the Inquisition as an organisation is a different thing.

That being said, I remember the GK's first came out and I read about them. I really dislike them, they were just too "amazing" and "powerful" for me. Oh look at me, not even a normal Space Marine can compete, pfft. So I wouldn't be surprised if they asked how how high if an Inquisitor asked them to jump.

I'm open to conceding the point that GK's could be just as under thumb as the SoB, but in my mind currently there's a very different level of standing between a Grey Knight and a Sister of Battle.

I went to a used bookstore today and found the first three books of the Horus Heresy. Thanks this thread! I couldn't believe how many 40K books exist.

Only read the Eisenhorn omnibus and random wiki articles thus far so I'm pretty excited.

The Contemptor class is so ugly.

SO UGLY.

Really? I'm not as big a fan as most people (damn near every Marine player at my local store has one) but I still think they look pretty cool. Haven't got one myself though because I use the old Bjorn dreadnought as I play SW.
