Warhammer Online Massively.com Feature!

Massively.com had this huge blowout in interviews and features with the EA Mythic about Warhammer Online.

Please guys try to refrain your selfs from the WoW comparisons and how it's just a copy cat, especially on the graphics. It's cool to criticize but don't troll just because you love WoW or Age of Conan.

Massively Speaking Podcast Episode 8 - http://www.massively.com/2008/06/05/massively-speaking-podcast-episode-8/

I have to say they Guild system stuff and Keeps/Sieges has sold me in this game sounds freaking awesome.

On the capital siege stuff it came of as saying that it would be instanced on a 42 vs. 42 only, so basically what that meant if you were in a group of 200 they would be divided into 5 or 6 groups of 42 to duke it out in the instance part of the siege. Don't worry about that Jeff Hickman posted this in regards to that statement on Warhammeralliance.com.
Guys,

I was reading through this thread and decided to stop lurking and chime in.

Nothing we said has changed about sizes of Capital City battles. Whatever is the "fun" number is the number we will go with. We are still shooting for 75v75 (more likely 72v72), but we would love it to be larger for some of these critical areas. This limit is only in the instanced, contested, Capital City areas though (and of course in our general, instanced scenarios throughout the world 6v6, 12v12 and larger battles do happen).

The video that many have linked here still holds true, though we are definately tweaking and improving the city experience based upon testers feedback and everything is still open to be changed if needed to make it better.

Remember, much of our RvR takes place in the open world and can have pretty large numbers involved. I literally just got done with a 3 hour long fight in beta that had 100v100 testers or more rampaging around Marshes of Madness, capturing objectives, seiging keeps and causing general mayhem. For those concerned, Destruction prevailed and captured the zone

I know this doesn't answer all of your concerns, but at least know that we are aware of them and that we are paying attention to what you guys desire.

I've been thinking of making a huge ass WAR thread for a week or two now. This is good stuff mayne. Cant effin wait to get my RvR on and decimate the Order.

Goblin Shaman looks so boss, and his mechanic is damn cool. Casting nukes will result in making his heals better....casting heals will power up his nukes. My type of char <3

Noooo! Then I will have to crush you man! Going to be rolling order here! :D

Yeah but are you euro or us?

I hatez stuntiez.

Im just worried that Destruction will be overrepresented when the game goes live, much like the Alliance in WoW.

I hate being on the side that has the numerical advantage. The reason I chose Horde is to be the underdog.

Yeah a lot a people are talking about that in warhammerallinace.com forums, either way I made my mind to be order way way back so hopefully it will even out.

I've already pre-ordered my copy. Can't wait. :D

Going 'Order' here.

Hmmm... Engineer... Witch Hunter... Warrior Priest... decisions... decisions.

Lol Im reading warhammeralliance as we speak. Truth be told, before WoW launched all online polls were skewed in the Hordes direction too. Then when the masses started playing Alliance was king.

Guess its just the vocal hardcore minority that chooses Destruction/Horde but the general populace prefers the good guys. Question is if WAR will reach the masses or if it will stay a hardcore game for 200k subs (which would be a big hit for the guys btw) :)

Also I have my Collectors Edition on pre order!

That's my concern too Kosma.

If you look at all the Warhammer pre-release communities, guilds are like 3:1 right now in favor of Destruction.

I'm hoping that the casuals (aka those not following the game atm) will in typical MMO fashion flock to the good guys balancing things out a bit better.

Ha I had my Collectors edition pre-order the day it was announced! I am thinking the game will balance out because numbers will matter in this game.

It doesnt really affect the WAR cause so much is instanced (scenarios, sieges) but knowing youre outnumbered but not outgunned is such a great feeling :)

The beta in it's current state is 100x more polished and playable then Conan is post release. Game is going to be fantastic.

Lovely.

As far as faction ratio is concerned, I don't think it'll be that much of an issue come release.

Ugh, then why the hell isn't it into open beta then? This game needs to come out soooon.

That is very good to hear, looks like the beta time has helped.

They are redoing many zones now, theyve just openend up the Greenskinz and Dwarf areas again after they got a huge makeover I heard. Also one class is still not in, the Black Guard.

EA has brought the money Mythic needed to polish the game up and prevent a fiasco like other MMO that release too early but should have stayed in the oven longer.

The MMO market may be growing, but I'm sure EA/Mythic want a brilliant product out the gates in an effort to steal as many WoW subscribers as possible.

I've been reading up and somewhere it got stated that having 100k subs = profit and having 250k subs = big hit. No wonder SE keeps supporting FFXI then.

Seeing how much interest there is in the BETA already I'd say WAR will reach 100k subs easy, and hopefully even more then 250k. The fact that the collectors edition are sold out already means that there will be 120k players on day 1.

WAR is going to do WAY better than 250k during launch. AoC has done 400k, and that's with a weaker license and very high system requirements.

It's not crazy to think WAR can hit 1 million units shipped and 500-750k subs during it's launch period. Hell, poll AoC's current userbase and half of them will admit they're killing time 'til Warhammer's release.

I hope it's a hit as well more people in the game the more I will destroy!

I think those articles reinvigorated the waning hype for WAR. So, 12 class types, each side gets a different version of them? Sounds pretty cool.

Are they going for a US and EU release at the same time? If so, anybody that thinks' they'll ship less than a million during the first month is absolutely insane.

As Kosma was saying, it's always like that. Midgard had some pretty dominant phases in DAOC beta, and then come release: mass Albion. Horde dominated Alliance on VN and other fansite polls pre-release, and we know how that changed after launched. Onward, hunter elves of the night.. or some such shit. So I really wouldn't waste a second on some niche pre-launch poll. Even after release, the percentage of folks that participate on forums is a tiny minority -- let alone months before release.

I preorder this after I got my new PC for Conan. Don'tknow much about it but the Public Quest thing sound cool.

Whats comes out 1st this or the new wow expassion?

Server queues ala WoW is the current plan.
I haven't followed WoW in a while... is Mythic actually going to ensure that one faction doesn't heavily out populate another faction on a particular server?

In WAR the problem isn't if one server is heavily populated but if one side participates in RvR more then the other. Which is the real problem as I experienced in DAoC.

One of the possibilities i remember seeing them mention... somewhere (can't remember where, some fansite interview or something) was per-faction queues - so if a server is heavily tilted in one direction or the other, the overpopulated side will hit queues before the underpopulated side.

They'll probably try to come up with some in-game incentives to play the underplayed side, too, if their history with DAoC is anything to go by.

Right now WAR is set to come out supposedly in the Fall but many speculate that it might be delayed till Spring. As for WoW wouldn't really know you Blizzard they don't release anything till it's awesome.

I forgot how population will balance itself in favour of Order: White Lion class (you know an Elf Hunter)

Well the White Lion is a melee class so I don't know about that one, while the Shadow Warrior is the Ranged class but has not pet. Personally I was going to get the While Lion just because he wear a Lions rug on his shoulders. Still Most likely going to be what I call the "Spaniard" Knight of the Blazing Sun.

Hopefully they start those incentives early because the population shifts is what killed DAOC for a LOT of people.

I've been out of the MMORPG loop for years but I read this in one of those dev notes-

The intention there is that we wanted to introduce you to the idea that it's Not That Scary To Group With Other People. You really can play with other people, step outside of that solo gameplay mode.

Do people really try to play MMORPGs by themselves? I used to play Everquest on PS2 and the mere thought of doing any sort of non-beginner quest without a basic group was ridiculous. Are there actually people afraid to group up in these games nowdays?

WoW really changed the forumla by making it faster and easier to level solo. With public quest, you enter a zone, told what objective to do and just invite random people so you all share the exp and points. Once the Public quest is done it will recycle so you can do it again so you can fill your influence bar and collect rewards.

Also the mobs you kill drop loot and at the end you will roll for loot. The ones who helped more in the scenerio get a bonus their roll.

I really doubt that there is any left that don't group, but there might be some people that don't want to group with just random people and might play solo till their friends join up.

Jsut got through reading all that lot the other day. All the little things they are adding are making this sound like a class game.

I was gonna play zealot but after reading the Marauder article, im now very tempted by a shapeshifting arm.

I look forward to giving this a try.

I also look forward to the thread where everyone has fun for 2 weeks, then the bitching begins about the usual launch problems that always affect the genre and the comparisons to WoW's launch and so on and so forth. =(

I think this will be a much more polished game then other recent MMO's thanks to EA's gold stash and Mythics experience. This is no AOC.
