Warhawk PS3 rumors from IGN

"We learn that the game has recently been switched to run on "Stage-2" development kits, which suggests something more akin to real world PS3 technology than what was previously revealed at E3.
This has apparently helped Incog get the new flight engine up and running. The informant states that the underlying technology allows the game to feature upwards of "2,000 enemies on-screen at once."

"In addition to raw quantity, the Incog spy says Warhawk will feel killer, too: "Most people describe it as Halo meets Star Wars meets Crimson Skies."
Gamers who caught our PS3 coverage will have surely noticed the incredible soldiers present at the beginning of the Warhawk demonstration. It seems unlikely that Incog would go through such trouble to meticulously render ground-based models that would only get seen from an altitude of 7,000 feet and a speed of 500 miles per hour. So according to the rumor, those characters are actually part of an extensive on-foot component. We're taking the Halo mention as a "tell" and assuming it's going to be first-person. It's also said that the game is squad-based. If that applies to both aerial combat and land action is not yet clear."

Interesting stuff,I hope more will be revealed about the title soon.

More "Throw as much shit on the screen as you can" syndrome :(

It does work better with games like Warhawk, however do you really need 2000?

Couldn't the HALO comment just refer to the look of the craft and world?

Otherwise...I'm conflicted:
"2,000 enemies at once" announcements are getting on my nerves
A NEW WARHAWK? THE FIRST GAME KICKED ASS
Incog Inc. next-gen? W00T!!

I guess I'm happy :D

Nice.

Sounds a bit like Dropship... ariel combat mixed with ground based combat, but the ground combat being in the form of a soldier (fps), I hope it's online.

1000 vs 1000 :lol

I hope developers realize that 2000 ugly things is still 2000 ugly things, so that they make sure that it's 2000 pretty things instead.

I'd guess the Halo reference is because the dropships used in Halo look like fat ass handicapped versions of the original Warhawk craft.

The E3 trailer was a good indication that they were going to have alot of crafts on screen at a time

Unless I'm misreading, this simply states the engine CAN do it - not thay they necessarily will do it. Ingoc has never given reason to assume they'd put quantity over quality, so I'm not worried that they will throw 2000 enemies on screen simply becuase they can. If it makes sense, they will - if it doesn't, they won't.

Sweet, i was involved with this game early on. If any of the stuff from beginning made it through...it will kick ass.

I CAME!

I was just freelancing as a concept artist, found a fulltime gig in the same city I live. Can't say much...NDA! Mostly did some early concept stuff, they redid a lot of it I think because the game was chaging all the time. I do hope they kept the designs for the main character and the main evil character, i thought they looked pretty cool.

No, I think the precise number is 1914...they just rounded up :P

As excited as I am for a new Warhawk, this doesn't sound much like the old Warhawk and the sooner this industry stops referencing other games to describe another game, the better. "Halo meets Star Wars meets Crimson Skies" means jack shit to me. What parts of these things am I supposed to expect in Warhawk as a result of that comparison? Or am I just supposed to be awed by the vague comparison to other cool things?

And ironically this is all relayed by Ivan Sulic - isn't he the guy that's been all about how hard he is to impress wrt next-gen consoles until somebody really shows him final product?

You're supposed to repeat the names you just heard in your head until you break down and run out and buy them - or the asociated merchandize (in case you already own the main products).

I am looking forward to this one muchly. Warhawk was the very first Playstation game I played, and while I never bought the system, I always dug on that experience. This one's gonna be mine.

I just hope that they don't pull a Factor 5 with the ground mission stuff.
