It's just a really good job no other movie companies waited to put their big movies out at the cinema, that have gone on to gross well over a billion dollars post pandemic.

Oh no, wait...
lol yep. The funny thing is that Tenet launched in the middle of the pandemic with all the major East and West Coast markets closed and still grossed $350 million worldwide. Any normal person with a thinking brain wouldve seen that and concluded that a year after Tenet with all theaters opened to full capacity with NO masks mandates, these movies wouldve made a lot more than Tenet's $350 million haul.

i remember watching Godzilla vs kong in an empty theater and was in awe of the wide shots of the movie. I came home and watched in on my 75 inch TV in Dolby Vision and was left underwhelmed. The movie lost its magic almost immediately. I cant believe thats how most people watched Wonder Woman, Dune, Godzilla, Mortal Kombat, Batman and even the trashy Matrix movie.

It was clearly a huge mistake on their part. Top Gun has absolutely proved that. But then when was the last good decision WB have taken as a movie studio?

And now Zaslav has taken over, and doesn't want anything going to streaming anyway. Warner Bros lost Chris Nolan for nothing. They threw away millions for nothing. All because they didn't have the patience to just wait.

The Flash was originally coming out June 2022 before COVID bumped it to November 2022 (Before Aquaman).

The Flash was delayed to June 2023 and Aquaman was originally December 2022 before being moved to March 2023 (before The Flash).

THR, an actual HOLLYWOOD TRADE (not some nobody on Twitter), confirmed that Keaton was originally in Aquaman 2 but his scenes were being replaced with Affleck due to Aquaman 2 releasing before The Flash:
https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/batgirl-hbo-max-movie-dc-canceled-1235191932/

So the question now is, if The Flash is still coming in June 2023 and it's now once again releasing BEFORE Aquaman 2, do they restore Keaton's scenes?

Well thats one good decision haha

And Nolan isnt always going to make cheap $100 million autobiographies like Oppenheimer. He's gonna want to go back to $200 million Tenet/TDK/Dunkirk caliber blockbusters and I doubt Paramount or Universal are going to foot the bill for an $200 million original IP even from Nolan. There is a good chance WB can get him back. Thats two good decisions.

I dont know. Im hopeful. I dont know who this Zaslav guy is but I love that he cancelled all the Netflix caliber shovelware from HBO Max. Invest in fewer big budget, high concept shows like House of Dragons, Westworld and Euphoria, and leave the trash for Netflix. He's cleaning up the trash. Good start I say.

lol haha. that would be hilarious. Imagine shooting a cameo while planning your wedding and then seeing it all end up on the cutting floor. Ben Affleck's batman is cursed.

Shocking how they are broke after launching their $200 million movies on a streaming service with free trials.

Every exec responsible for that needs to be fired and should be unemployable going forward.
I appreciate their stupidity.

There is zero indication that they are broke.

Other than the report from the proven Hollywood insider who works for one of the most reputable entertainment magazines, and the fact WBD are indeed delaying movies so less come out in one financial year.

Give it a year or two and Disney will buy them.
This statement is correct.

I have always seen Warner Bros, as the little boy envious of Disney's success, who even made fun of and parodies.

It has always been below Disney and Warner Bros never got over that trauma.

Now change the world and will be consumed by his rival.

It says they don’t have the money to release more than two movies a year. By any practical measure… that’s broke for a major movie production company.

The article says

"The Hollywood Reporter first reported earlier this month that the two movies were likely to move — including Aquaman moving to Christmas — as new owner Warner Bros. Discovery looks to spread out the marketing and distribution costs associated with releasing a studio tentpole. When asked at the time about the pending release date changes, a spokesperson for Warners declined comment."

and

"The unusual move comes after a change in leadership at Warners, with newly installed Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav prioritizing cost-cutting measures and refocusing Warners on creating theatrical films rather than projects for streaming."

I don't see anything about being broke.

Did you even read the first post in this thread? What the entire thread is based on?

Makes sense to me. While I'm more excited for Shazam and have no interest in Avatar, there's no question that Avatar will dominate the boxoffice in December. Disney snatching up all the IMAX and premium screens is nothing new. It's only a 3 month delay for Shazam.

The writing was kind of on the wall with the Batgirl cancellation, if they had a ton of money they’d put it out but instead they’re weighing what brings back the biggest return.

Also this:
The company has a debt load of around $53 billion and is cutting costs to reach a target of $3 billion in savings. This could explain the alterations to its content lineup as well as rumored staff changes.

Oh boy…

Seems like Warner Bros Discovery not have enough cash to release two movies a year, so they are once again delaying Aquaman 2 & Shazam 2, so they can afford to actually put them out.

The article didn't say that they're broke. The dude is either lying or misreading.

The WRITER surmised WB might not have enough money to release them this year. They were held back because the effects still won't be at the level needed. James Wan said as much...

Wonder Woman 1984, The Matrix Resurrections, Bill & Ted Face the Music, Judas and the Black Messiah, Malignant, The Many Saints of Newark, King Richard, The Suicide Squad, Cry Macho, Elvis,....
They deserved most of these bombs. They should crash and burn for the new Matrix

Not enough money to release 2 films, but enough to write-off Batgirl and postpone Flash? is Rick Scott running Warner Bros too?
Batgirl write off gets them money back, and prevents them from spending more, to finish, market and release (licening). Delaying the Flash happened earlier this year due to VFX shortages.

Wrong they have crap tons of debt and are in serious trouble if the bombs continue.
Having debt doesn't make you broke, and neither does a hypothetical future. They are however low on cash relatively speaking and have a plethora of issues such as HBO Max bleeding billions of dollars, high churn and as you mentioned very high debt.

He’s a respected industry reporter. Not a click bait Twitter idiot. If he’s saying he’s been told they are in financial trouble, I believe it.

Why are some of you so desperate to disprove WBD are in financial trouble?

They ARE in debt but I doubt they're broke. In the dude's article, there's no hint of finances being talked about. They're trying to get back in black, not stay in red.

That said, Avatar is taking all the IMAX screens (Shazam and Avatar were supposed to release the same day, I think) and it's doubtful Shazam would make much during that slaughter. James Wan is on record saying it would be difficult to get the VFX done by March. It's an effects heavy movie (almost none of that can be done practically).

Also, dude says Batgirl was completely finished... It wasn't. Principal photography was done but the effects hadn't been finished nor had they done any of the pickups/reshoots they had scheduled.

Wrong, boy-o

Tons of studios have lots of debt ... Like Netflix... Yet they still make big budget flicks. The goal is to have minimal or zero debt. That's all.

Just like the US.
Netflix’s debt isn’t like Warner brothers because of the massive difference in revenue.
