First came “Man of Steel.” Next up is “Batman vs. Superman.” And then, “Justice League.”

Confirming the studio’s plans for a movie based on its iconic super-team for the first time, Warner Bros. president of worldwide production Greg Silverman said the studio has set plans to make a “Justice League” movie.

Like “Man of Steel” and its follow-up, which starts production next month, “Justice League” will be directed by Zack Snyder. Henry Cavill is expected to return as Superman, along with Ben Affleck and Gal Gadot, who play Batman and Wonder Woman, respectively, in 2016’s “Man of Steel” sequel tentatively titled “Batman vs. Superman.”

“It will be a further expansion of this universe,” said Mr. Silverman. “’Superman vs Batman’ will lead into ‘Justice League.’”

A script is still in development and Warner has not set a release date, though the movie is unlikely to come out before 2018. Mr. Silverman would not comment on what other heroes might join Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman in the movie. However the studio has recently been casting the role of Cyborg, a half-robotic hero who is expected to have a cameo in “Batman vs. Superman” and then appear in “Justice League.” Other DC heroes who have been in Justice League comic books include Aquaman, Flash and Green Lantern.

We all knew it was coming, now it's official, with Snyder still attached.

And no, the title for the Man of Steel sequel has never been confirmed as "Batman vs. Superman," or "Superman vs. Batman" or anything like that since its announcement. Even the execs can't get it straight yet.

But at this point it is so widely called by that name that it almost certainly will end up being called that so as to avoid the hassle of messaging out to everyone that it's called something else via marketing. At the very least, both of their names will be in the title, I predict.

So at least 2016 or 2017?

Batman vs. Superman is 2016, so Justice League would be 2018 at the earliest.

This movie is going to be so bad. Marvel/Disney put in 6 years of making household names of previously unknown superheroes before doing Avengers. They're just going to rush this out ASAP with people the public doesn't know/care about.

This quote about Wonder Woman made me laugh:
“That is our hope,” said Sue Kroll, president of worldwide marketing. “With the right script, that could be viable. The world is ready for her.”
"The right script".

So Justice League will basically be the sequel to Man of Steel 2?

Will be interesting to watch how this plays out.

Edit: It really seems like they're doing everything backwards.

This quote about Wonder Woman made me laugh:

"The right script".

They already passed on a Wonder Woman script written by the guy who later wrote the third highest grossing picture of all time, so I'm very curious to see what "the right script" ends up being.

Hopefully it ain't anything like "the right script" for that tv pilot they made.

The public cares about Batman and Superman, though. I think that will be enough to keep people interested.

Time to finish the fight

C'mon now. People had no idea who the Avengers were. Everyone knows the JL.

With the announcement of this and the Sinister Six spinoff for Amazing Spider-Man, it seems like the success of the MCU really inspired a desire for connected stories in superhero films. If they can pull it off well, great.

I hope they can.

Hold the phone, they making an 100 bullets movie?

SHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET

Which was also canned before making air.

I'll give em the benefit of the doubt because we've seen what they do when they just wanna make a quick buck (Catwoman, Steel, Supergirl, Jonah Hex)

GODDAMMIT WILL THEY JUST FUCKING CALL THIS THING WORLD'S FINEST ALREADY?

Nope. The best you'll get is Superman & Batman: World's Finest. But there is absolutely no way in hell it's going to just be called World's Finest, because nobody knows what the fuck that is.

C'mon now. People had no idea who the Avengers were. Everyone knows the JL.

Everyone knows the Super Friends. Most people don't know what the Justice League is.

Remember when some people thought nobody would understand "The Dark Knight" is a Batman movie instead of, IDK, some medieval shit or whatever silly idea people came up with to shoehorn Batman in the title.

That's what the fucking logos are for.

The term "World's Finest" has been the name for a Superman & Batman team-up since 1941. It's not like it's an obscure term or anything. Or at least no more obscure than "The Dark Knight" and "Man of Steel."

He also wrote Dollhouse and Serenity, let's not bring back this falsehood that everything Whedon touches turns to gold. We have no idea what his Wonder Woman film would have looked like.

This post confuses me. Are you saying that quality and ticket sales are the same thing? It kind of sounds like you're saying the movie will be bad simply because the Justice League characters won't(?) have the same drawn-out exposure of the Marvel characters.

I don't see how that has anything to do with the actual quality of the Justice League film.

Do people really believe Johnny and Suzie Q. Public can't look at this and immediately tell what this movie is about? Y'all give the general public no credit whatsoever.
C'mon now. People had no idea who the Avengers were. Everyone knows the JL.

More importantly, everyone knows who Superman and Batman are, which is enough to get asses in seats.

Good writing is all you need to get audiences on the side of the others.

Snyder is going to make all the DC movies from on, eh. :lol Good for him, hopefully his eye for great visuals is paired up with better scripts.
