All men get prostate cancer at some point (like a 95% chance after age 90 or something). It also just takes 10+ years to kill someone. At least this seems treatable.

Yeah, it's pretty much a when, not if, if you live old enough that is.

My dad had stage one and he had to get his prostate removed but the cancer came back. Then he had to have radiation for about 3 months. He's cancer free now. He's 70.

My dad got stage 3 or 4 and did daily radiation treatment(took like 5 mins) for like 3 months and he was fine. Warren should be good to go by end of summer.

Apparently one of the most effective ways to treat prostate cancer in older men is testicle amputation. Removing them slows the growth of the cancer considerably.

Focused microwave treatment. Saw it on the news just earlier today.

Apparently it's haveing great results. Something liek 90% of men treated are fine a year later with no side efects of having to do chemo or other treatments.

Edit: Damn. Might have been colon cancer. I don't remember!

At 81, I guess it's time to retire the family jewels anyway.
Yup. One of my co-worker's father in law has prostate cancer and opted for the testicular removal. He's in his late 80s and according to the co-worker was pretty pragmatic about the whole thing.

Yeah, the slow-growth kind is common, and often the best course is minimal treatment at that age since the cancer itself is unlikely to kill you before something else does.

My co-worker told me this, too, and I had a hard time accepting it on an emotional level. It seems sensible but jeez, to have cancer and just do nothing because you're likely to die from something else first? What a stark example of man's mortality.
