Was that Kanye West thing the best thing to happen to Taylor Swift or what?

I really truly don't watch TV that much at all but between radio, television, and just various print ads Taylor Swift is EVERYWHERE - I've never even heard of her before the Kayne West thing and now everytime you turn around there she is. Did anyone know who this girl was until the Kayne West incident?
 
Yes, a lot of people knew about her, but maybe not as much as after that incident of those who avoid mainstream music.
 
I had no idea who she was before that. I knew some of her music because they play it at the local bars/clubs, but I had no idea who she was.
 
She has cornered the TWO best music markets, or should I say most profitable. She is a hybrid, half-country half-pop similar to Miley Cyrus but she actually writes her own music(and isn't as over-exposed). I think the Kanye thing exposed her to the people like you a little more, but I feel she was already well known. Hence why she won the award over Beyonce.
 
She had very heavy radio rotation long before the VMA bullshit...
 
I'd heard about her, but never more than in passing. But now she's like everywhere. I guess he really was the best thing to happen to her. And it's the only good thing he's ever done or ever will.
 
As Slizz pointed out, the best thing to happen to her was bridging the gap between country and pop music. So she's now one of the biggest artists in the US. Kanye might've made her well known to people that somehow manage to ignore mainstream music entirely, but she was still very well known before that.
 
I mean she won a VMA... like the most prestigious award evar.
 
She had her own Wal-mart display before she even had a hit single. I remember walking by it and saying "who the fuck is that?" I thought it was some country chick because I never heard of her.

She was always country-pop. She just got poppier on the 2nd album.

You and me both. She said back in the spring that she wanted to work with Kanye, now the timing is perfect!
 
I don't know. Maybe for some but she was already pretty well known. Especially for those who still listen to the radio. I hear her multiple times on one trip.

Taylor Swift isn't the greatest artist of the decade or anything, but she's a lot better than the majority of crap out there. (Other mainstream stuff)

She was the best selling artist of 2008 before it. Which is odd, because you'd never think the mass majority would embrace such a subtle display of songwriting as she's come up with on her first two albums. Great, though.
 
Taylor Swift was this name i kept hearing about on the Internet which i ignored and thanks to Kanye i took the time to see what the big deal was cos people would not shut up about her. I still don't care.

More or less. It gave a name to those songs you hear for about 3 seconds before you scan away as fast as possible.
 
All of these things have been planned (her appearances). She was a superstar before Kanye. Sure, the hype and publicity helps but it's the not the reason she's on talk shows or SNL.

She was already largely known by anyone who listens to the radio or watches tv. She ruled country and infiltrated the Top 40 mainstream stations with a handful of hits. She was already made before this.

A hot young girl with shitty music blowing up overnight happens weekly it seems.
 
Just a hunch, but making millions off record sales prior to that, would trump being interrupted by some drunken hack on MTV.

She's 19, turns 20 in a little over a month.
 
Didn't know what song she performed or what she looked like prior to the whole Kanye thing. She definitely came out on top in the end
