Wasteland 2 Kickstarter project by inXile entertainment [Ended, $3 Million Funded]

Do we only get one key now and the rest later? I didn't back at the lowest pledge tier.

One key per backer now, yes.

All Torment and WL2 backers should be able to get their key now, excepting Torment folks with undefined add-ons. Let me know if any of you are having any problem.

Sucks that I missed this Kickstarter when it happened, but no way I pay $50 now just to get some beta action. How much is it going to cost at release?

i'm guessing 40 since that's what divinity's going for

could be more, could be less

Going off the kickstarter I'm guessing anywhere from $20-30.

What about Pillars of Eternity bros? I asked you guys earlier about it on the ranger center and pretty much got a shrug back, so now that the release is nearing, I'd like to know what's going on with that copy as well >_<

I just had a 2-hour session on "Seasoned" difficulty with 1 custom created and 3 off-the-shelf PCs.

As expected the game has a lot of character, the dialogue is excellent and it's system is engaging.

To begin with I find the micro-management of the 4 characters overwhelming, determining what skills and attributes for each and, perhaps this is just me, I dislike that each PC has their own backpack for loot, weapons, armour etc. but I'm sure I'll grow accustomed to this.

The combat system is fun but not as polished as XCOM: Enemy Unknown, for example, in terms of UI friendliness and intuitiveness.

Overall, I'm happy that I backed the project and can't wait to jump back in but I may wait until the actual release as I'm no rush to play an unfinished product when there's lots of other great games out there now.

Regarding the keys issue, Brother None just posted this on the WL2 forums:

I just wanna make sure two things are clear:

Our usage of Steam DRM is a temporary measure we’ve used to ensure version compliance during the beta run. We will remove Steam DRM around the time of final release, so that the Steam version of Wasteland 2 will no longer require the launching or presence of Steam to run.

Kickstarter backers should note all tiers $30 and up already have multiple copies so you will be able to grab a GOG.com key at launch. If you run into any problems with key activations, digital retailer choices etc, just contact us through the Ranger Center after release, we will work with you to resolve any issues.

The graphics are amazing, but is the game running sluggish to anyone else? I'm occasionally getting mediocre frame rate and sound "skips", which is very annoying.

I didn't play much of the game itself yet, because I rather wait for the final release - But it gave me that old RPG feel and for a moment my body shivered in delight. It just felt so right.

And then the LORD David Bowie saith to his Son, Jonny Depp: 'Go, and spread my image amongst the cosmos. For every living thing is in anguish and only the LIGHT shall give them reprieve.'
Did I miss something, or is the Ranger Station the only place you can buy ammo? I keep running out if it and barely get enough to sell to buy more. Seems kinda harsh.

This and CON+ items are scarce.

The wreckers at Highpool just butchered Echo Team, I'm taking down the difficulty to "Rookie". What difficultly level is everyone playing at? And how are you finding it?

it runs kinda choppy to me too

i lowered some of the gfx options like shadows and post proc and it made it better

I restarted on "Rookie" with 2 assault rifles, 1 sniper and 1 energy gun. I never realised on previous playthroughs that there's a story-related PC (Angela Deth) who can join the team at The Citadel - she's badass.

The sniper is a great initiator for battles and almost always one-shots enemies but now the game feels a bit too easy and I breeze through most encounters. I'll probably stop playing now until release and start again with the same team composition on "Seasoned".

What team set-up is everyone planning to play with come release?

Bought this on a Steam Summer sale. Love every second of it. Feels like the next Fallout Tactics. Wish I could've given some cash for the kickstarter.

damn..do i regret this purchase..
played it again (first time was the day it became available to backers on steam) and other than some added bloom..its still a clunky, ugly POS.

So what would you tell a guy who doesn't even know what crpg means, but is intrigued by and has bought Wasteland 1 and Fallout 1/2?

cRPG stand for "Computer Role Playing Game". It usually means a RPG that utilize or is inspired by mechanics from traditional pen-and-paper RPG's, such as Dungeons & Dragons or GURPS. Over the years the term has become more or less obsolete due to most games moving towards more action oriented gameplay. The term "Western RPG" (wRPG) has become more common instead. Examples for cRPG's would be the original Fallout games, the Ultima series, Baldur's Gate, Pool of Radiance, etc.

my personal favorite is fallout 2 but ofc fallout 1 is really good too

they're my favorite games ever and everything about them is amazing

as a disclaimer they're kinda old games, so some of the interface might be a little clunky for today's standards, but you're playing new vegas (aka my favorite game since fallout 2 :p) so you're used to clunky

you'll love em

I took a break from New Vegas since I got a little burned out on it. I've made it to the super mutants in the necropolis with my vault about to die and I've been really enjoying it so far. It's pretty hard though. Only gripes are getting ganged up on in the wasteland and Killian Darkwater killing me after his assassin dies.

New update: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/inxile/wasteland-2/posts/936293

What’s New in this Build?

When we pulled the changelist from our source control (since the last update), it was 551 uncurated PAGES of bug fixes, polish and iterated features. This list has been reduced down and can be read in its entirety (but why would you want to do that?!?) here. Some of the main things you’ll notice in this build:

Huge balance pass across all elements of the game
Enemy AI/Enemy Stats/Damage/Weapons/Dropsets/Skill Use
Added a mini-map
Lots of new optimizations to memory and load times
Tons of new UI improvements (visual and functional)
New audio added across the board (weapons/enemies/ambient/player events)
Large visual effects pass in all levels
Oh-so-much general clean-up/polish and iteration

This is the last 'major' update for the beta

update says release date'll slip into early september

The latest updates really improve how the game looks and plays. I'm happier today about Wasteland 2 than I was a month ago, after my first play of the beta.

So let them delay. There will never be another Wasteland 2. I want it to be as good as they can make it.

Despite backing this from the beginning, I've only recently become hyped about it following the emphasis on the game's reactivity. Giving narrative choices heft and delivering consequences hours after a decision has been made sounds like my jam.

So I never backed Wasteland 2 but I have been waiting for a moment to jump in because I absolutely loved Fallout 1 & 2 when I was a teenager.

Yesterday I did some reading about the people behind the game and I realised that not only is the soundtrack of Wasteland 2 composed by the same guy who did Fallout 1 & 2 soundtracks, their sound designer is Alexandar Brandon, i.e the guy made music for Deus Ex and Unreal Tournament. After realising that I just could not delay buying this game any longer, so I purchased the early access version yesterday.

The game started quite slow but I was completely hooked as soon as the first fight was over and can't wait to play more later this evening.

With the highest graphics settings Wasteland 2 looks beatiful. It does not look that great in any of the videos they have released. So this was a positive surprise.

As you might expect, both the music and the sounds are amazing, and really go long way in creating the immersion.

In the gameplay videos the game UI and menus looked horribly outdated, but the current UI is really easy to use, and it is much faster to swap gear between between characters than it is in games like Skyrim. Perhaps the easiest to use inventory system I have seen in a game so far.

The normal difficulty level seems to be just right, if you go to a battle unprepared without thinking it much, things can backfire quickly.

I love the writing. I have only seen very early section of the game, the story is already interesting and as an adult it is easier for me to appreciate these jokes. As a teenager I probably missed most of the jokes in Fallout 1 and 2.

The core gameplay of old Fallout games is there, but the modern gameplay mechanics like the interactions with the environment and a spinning camera view take that original Fallout experience futher.

My only complaint so far is the intro film, which started promisingly but the ending reminded me of a porno film. I think they could improve that by editing it differently.

This just might become my favorite PC game of this year, provided that Destiny will not be released on PC.

Kind of disappointed with the graphics. They look kind of like ass especially in comparison to pillars of eternity :(
Anyway I bought the game, I have to support these games :p. I'm not touching it until it's out. Does anyone know if the copy of Wasteland 1 included is compatible with OSX?
