WB Games now looking to license out IP

I'm pretty sure that wherever MK goes, Ed Boon goes with it, as it's his (and John Tobias's) baby. Whether that means NRS goes independent or someone else buys them and the MK rights, im sure Ed has something in whatever contract he has with WB that says he goes where MK goes.

The absolute BEST thing for MK right now is to get away from WB. MK1 is decent, but leaps and bounds worse (IMO) than their previous titles. Not to mention all the gender bender characters and the overuse of guest characters when they literally have so many MK characters in the universe that they could bring back.

It's my guess also that (based on things Ed has said on Twitter in the past) that he would love to do something with the 1st 4 arcade games and do a "Director's Cut" version of them all and bring them out in a Kollection on today's systems. Why this hasn't happened already is anyone's guess but my gut says it's been WB saying no for whatever stupid reason. Cheap bastards probably don't want to pay the OG character actors royalties but they'l suck ever damn penny from players with their terrible GAAS tactics.

No one shall be brought before our LORD David Bowie without the true and secret knowledge of the Photoshop. For in that time, so shall He appear.
I want a 3D Scribblenauts game. AI development could actually make this feasible.

Just go the licensing route.

Just like Disney licenses out all their stuff for anything from kids toys to lunch boxes.

Sit back and collect 5-10% of net revenue from every unit sold.

Truly an all time megaton of a failure in this industry

I struggle to think of a bigger shit the bed moment than those two back to back.

And they’re so similar. It actually took me a minute to remember the name of Gotham Knights because it’s such forgettable slop. I got both these games for free and never bothered to install either one.

What is that licensing for baby's? Isn't Disney's cut from Sony's Marvel factory 20-25%? The pack in console bundles scaled to like $50+ for The Mouse, basically a 100% license fee of a stand alone game sale.

Agreed, but I fear that NRS itself may be to blame for many of MK1's issues. The gender/race swapping of characters could be their own doing. The guest characters I could definitely see being a WB issue, though.

However, my biggest issue with the past few games is them adopting the multiverse and time travel bullshit. I assume that has to do with NRS's own writing team. I used to enjoy the characters and lore of MK, but it's just gotten pretty silly at this point. At least with MKX and MK11 I had the intros to look forward to, but they even managed to screw those up in MK1, lol.

So yeah, I hope you are right and that all these issues are mainly with WB and not NRS itself, but I am not so sure anymore.

Did I mention I hate MK1? lol

Can Sony please save rocksteady with Batman from WB.
I'm pretty certain Sony working with DC IP would be conflict of interest given their relationship and investment with Marvel and their video game IP licenses rights and the Spider-Man IP film license rights.

Batman needs a reboot, but I could really see Ubisoft getting Batman and making it an open world game

It's weird because some of his dialogue writing is decent, but when it comes to actual plot it is a complete disaster, heh.

I just want there to be actual stakes again. When Liu Kang got his neck snapped in the opening of DA it was a nice "holy shit" moment. If that happened now, some alternate universe Liu Kang would pop out of a portal before Shang Tsung could even start his victory pose.

Ubisoft would have been drooling at the prospect of reskinning AC into a LOTR game.

But WB don't have LOTR rights anymore, embracer does?

So batman and harry potter are the only two big IPs I can think of.

Otherwise... AAA openworld Scooby Doo game.
AAAA Open World Mortal Kombat Action RPG!
