Ok maybe not game of the year, but this is the first time in a LONG time I have actually been glued to my screen and can't seem to get away.

I had heard about the original, never really had any time to play it first-hand given how busy I have been... So when the silly Namco demo disc came along I gave the sequel a try and WOW.

This game proves enjoyment doesn't necessarily involve cinematic visuals, complex control schemes, and a 50 million dollar budget.

This game is so much fun that I just procured close to ~50 copies. I intend to give it to every single person I know that has any sort of involvement in the gaming industry.

This is what games are about folks. The ability to pick up and play and enjoy.

The humor, the comedy, the pure ingenuity...

My father, who has not touched a game since the late 80s, can't stop playing this. I even have my sister playing this (she is fascinated by the "cute hammer headed Prince"!)

Kudos Namco, KUDOS!

Oh yeah I also just bought Shadow of the Colossus.. Hopefully I get a chance to play it sometime soon....

Agree.. maybe not GOTY... but I would give it at least an award for best parlour game or something of the sort

Just wish there were more multiplayer modes and stuff... that would make it a ton of fun

QFT. The original Katamari was alright. This one just felt like a cheap cash-in to me, with crappy music.

We <3 Katamari was like watching the King jerk himself off in the mirror, raving about how great the game he's in was. It was really pushing it and the gimmicky nature of the game (I like rolling shit up. . not big fireballs or snowballs or. . yeah. Random shit is fine.) got really annoying, really fast.

So yes, not GOTY and not anywhere close.

I think it has more do with the fact that you skipped the original. Everybody felt what you described in your OP when playing KD so W<3K is sort of a "been there done that" for everybody else.

I had loads of fun with We <3 Katamari, but it most definately isn't GOTY. I really felt that the original was GOTY (for me) last year, because it was so original, but Resident Evil 4 and Shadow of the Colussus are definitely GOTY this year.

Pretty much. Though I will say that W<3K is improved in almost every area over the original. Katamari is pretty much guaranteed fun to me, and this game was clearly a refinement and expansion on a lot of the ideas and concepts laid out in the first game. It's just not something as breathtakingly original as the first game was, so it gets a somewhat more lukewarm response than it really deserves (which stands to reason, being a sequel and all).

That and the fact that most people around here are fairly bitter and/or jaded in one way or another.
