We already know about the launch titles for next generation consoles, don’t we?

I think Wolverine is gonna be cancelled.

So next year would be Marathon (if that isn't cancelled) and Saros. Maybe the 2D God of War game. I think Intergalatic will be released in 2027 but maybe mid year, before the PS6's launch.

You forgot:
Horizon Zero Dawn: Remastered - Enhanced Remastered
Horizon Zero Dawn: Forbidden West Remastered
Last Of Us - Remastered - Director's Cut Remastered
Last Of Us 2 - Remastered - Director's Cut Remastered
God Of War - Remastered
God Of War - Ragnarok Remastered
Maybe they could squeeze a:
Uncharted-8k Remasterd Collection-Collectors Edition.
In there somewhere as well?

If they're that close it would be better to just hold it in for another couple months for maximum hype.
They can still release it on PS5, do it like Nintendo with BOTW on Switch and WiiU.
If they stagger the release it'll be to sell a PS6 edition upgrade, but then they'll be further apart, 2028 for PS6.

Hard for me to be enthused about next gen when this gen feels like it's barely begun. The cross-gen period for next gen titles is going to be obscenely long.

I have a hard time believing PlayStation 6 or XboxSXxVanillaSx will be out before 2028. That would be the 8 year mark. And even then, what more would it be besides a slight graphics tweak? I think you'd have to bring something else to the table at this point, otherwise it'll be a gradual phase in of people buying it. There will be the enthusiasts, of course. But, even current gen was a lot more of a gradual adaptation, I'd expect the next one to be even more gradual. Expect a vast majority of titles to be cross gen for years.

60 fps in GTA 6 (and any actual current gen games)

Sony kinda blew it when they didn't upgrade the CPU on the PS5 Pro.

True but it's understandable, the industry will do what's necessary to bring in more money, skipping 100+ million customers will sting.
I don't have a problem with it, you enter at the hardware level you can afford.

I see hardware generations kinda overlap with no clear point when a generation is actually starting. "XboxSXxVanillaSx" first, PS5 Pro still doing fine, then PlayStation 6 a couple years later, then an upgraded Xbox PC box and a Steam Machine and a PS6 Pro upgrade and some ASUS SteamOS device, and a some Windows Console OS box, and so on.

Software will be the focus, the most cross gen generation ever. And multiplats left and right.

As said above, the upside is that you can enter at whatever hardware level you can afford.

Jesus, reading that list in the OP I'm now realising how predictable and (in my opinion) boring console launch line ups have become.
Yup. And I didn't even talk about third party. You can add NotFIFA26,27,28,29 and Call of Duty BO 8,9, MW4,5 and BF7,8 snd AC Something Something and standard mp shooter 11 to the early gen list as well.
It is what it is. Play what you enjoy, skip the rest.

New boxes are potentially arriving in 2026-2028. It takes 5+ years to make games now.

From a first party perspective, I'm thinking that some, if not all, games we already know about right now might be launch titles for new boxes rather than late generation titles.

Boring, I know, but it would make sense.
Could still have scaled back cross-generation versions too of course.

They'll probably spread them out but these are all potential next gen titles now as I see it:

Xbox:
Fable
Forza Horizon 6
Gears of War E-Day
The Elder Scrolls VI (not likely)
State of Decay 3, if still in development, should be there too. Pretty much everything we know about, well except The Elder Scrolls VI I guess, could potentially be there near launch on the next Xbox.
No point wasting big titles on Series if rumours are true that a new Xbox will arrive in 2026-2027, right?
Halo ain't going to be there near launch this time though.
Maybe they'll have a new Wolfenstein?
What else is there?

PS6:
Saros
Wolverine
Intergalactic
The Last of Us 3 (no joke)
Those could be there for launch or first year on the next PlayStation if it arrives 2027-2028.
Maybe a new God of War too? Cory Barlog is working on a side story, should be for PS6, right?
Gran Turismo 8 would be big, or maybe GT Sports 2?
Horizon 3 is definitely coming.
Spider-Man 3 is known from the Insomniac leak.

Are there any big surprises that could pop up? Realistically. If so, what?

I'm thinking (hoping) that there is another Uncharted in development. They set it up perfectly both for another Lost Legacy and a continuation of main Uncharted. Needs to happen!
And Bloodborne Remake by Bluepoint.

And Rare can't just make Sea of Thieves. There HAS to be new Banjo, Conker or Viva Piñata coming, right? Another Oblivion-like remake project would be cool too. I wouldn't say no to Skyrim Remake!
This is just delusions right?

Thinking that Sony and Microsoft are going to release their "next gen" consoles as early as 2026 is just dumb.

2027 is a possibility, but still early, in my opinion. 2028 seems much more likely and probably more palatable to the average consumer.

As for the games, most of what was listed in the original post will come out as current-gen titles, if they come out at all. I fully expect titles like Fable to be cancelled, and the new Naughty Dog game to release in 2026.

This is why we need more arcade type games, racers, light gun, fighters...

Early gen should be filled with short visually stunning titles with high replayability. Not a handful of 1000 hour sandbox with so many mechanics that they all merge into one homogeneous retread.

I… don't think so? Nope. They won't all be there at launch. But within a year or two or maybe three.

What do you think will happen?

We know the studios and have a rough idea about what they're working on through leaks and teasers and how long it takes to develop games. I don't think there will be any mega surprises tbh.

Plans can change (and they have! especially for MS) but the fairly detailed leaks are talking about late 2026 to early 2027 for the Xbox and late 2027 to early 2028 for PS6.

PS6:
Saros
Wolverine
Intergalactic
The Last of Us 3 (no joke)

Some corrections on the PlayStation side of things:
  • PlayStation 6 -- in both home console and handheld form -- is allegedly expected for late 2027 at the earliest, which rules out both Saros and Wolverine, which are coming out next year.
  • On the other hand, while Intergalactic is not targetting next year per Jason Schreier, I highly doubt that it would take until the holidays for it to release in 2027 (remember that it has been in the works since 2020!) -- a late-gen PS5 release in the spring just feels much more likelier.
  • Gran Turismo 8 seems primed for a release within the next 18 months, with an eventual PS6 update when the time comes. I'd say a similar timeframe applies to Cory Barlog's game.
  • The Last Of Us Part III is not in active development.
With that out of the way, and assuming PlayStation 6 hits fall 2027, I feel like this would be a reasonable lineup of games to expect from Sony:
  • Console Launch
    • New Astro Bot (Team Asobi)
    • Bloodborne remake (Bluepoint Games/whoever should assist them) -- because it is either this or shutting down the studio entirely
    • Marvel's Spider-Man: Venom (Insomniac Games)
    • ???????? (XDEV)
  • First Year
    • Existing IP (People Can Fly)
    • Horizon III (Guerrilla Games)
    • Marvel's Spider-Man 3 (Insomniac Games)
    • MLB The Show 28 (San Diego Studio)
    • New IP (Dark Outlaw Games)
    • ???????? (XDEV)

There's also the ex-Bungie Team LFG game codenamed Gummy Bears ((Bungie registered Matter, which can be its final name). I don't know when they did exactly start its production, so can't estimate its release, it should release somewhere in the 2026-2030 window.
Bungie released Gummy Bears concept art on their Twitter account back in 2023, so the game must have been in the works since, at the very least, the year prior as one of their various incubation projects that they kicked off with Sony's money (leading to them doubling their in size over the span of 12 months).

I think sony will wanna get their hc crowd on board early on, we getting bloodborne remaster same way we got demons souls remaster, ofc no pc port either way :P

Thanks, forgot about a new Astrobot, that'll definitely happen.
I think if Saros comes out next year they'll still resell some PS6 edition upgrade thing to help build up a PS6 launch lineup. Goes for Wolverine as well. I think it's too close to the PS6 launch to just have those on PS5, they're important titles. Anyways, good ideas! 👍

It's going to be crossgen so I don't know if saving it for the launch means much.

Yet no one will give a shit about new Xbox hardware
No one? Xbox fans haven't just vanished, millions of enthusiasts who're not ready to move over to PC will see it as the best thing they can get, especially if it's powerful which the MLID/Kepler leaks hints at.

What people debate about is where the new ceiling will be. Maybe they max out at 10M. We'll see.

I've just read the Xbox deal with AMD is basically to make high end consoles and name them PCs like the one Asus just showed us but will obviously be more sophisticated in a meaningful way, not just generic boxes.

That's what I used to think too, but in the AMD investor info they specifically mention they'll do silicone for Xbox handhelds, consoles and PCs.
So they'll have multiple devices.

The ASUS ROG Xbox Ally handheld(s) comes on top of all that, silicone is already done.

So the handheld is likely a dedicated Xbox handheld, the one that was delayed.

And then there is the console, with Kepler/MLID leaks going into details.

No idea what they mean with PCs but the reason they started using that weird Xbox PC label is probably because of what they plan to do there.

I've moved the PC long ago but I'm excited to see what they've been up to. Hopefully something will trickle down to PC, or up lol

I can kinda see where OP is coming from, but going by the track record of this gen's launch titles, I'd rather expect much less from everyone.
PS5 easily had the best launch lineup of any PlayStation.

PlayStation:
Crime Crackers

PlayStation 2:
Literally none.

PSP:
Everybody's Golf Portable

PLAYSTATION 3:
Blast Factor
Genji: Days of the Blade
Mainichi Issho
Resistance: Fall of Man

PlayStation Vita:
Welcome Park (pre-installed)
Everybody's Golf 6
Little Deviants
Toro's Friend Network
Uncharted: Golden Abyss

PlayStation 4:
The Playroom (pre-installed)
Killzone Shadow Fall
Knack
Resogun

PlayStation 5:
Astro's Playroom (pre-installed)
Demon's Souls
Marvel's Spider-Man Miles Morales
Sackboy: A Big Adventure

It's pretty obvious to me that the only unannounced games they will have on PS6 release will be Cory's new IIP and Bloodborne remake. Or maybe some thir party exclusive. The others will be remasters of Intergalactic and whatnot.
Astro Bot 2 and Gran Turismo 8 are more obvious than those.

Man its actually crazy to think new consoles are some 2 years out
They launched in 2019, so it's not that crazy, we're on year 6 now.
Edit: 2020… Okay, it's kinda early.
What makes it seem early is that some big devs hasn't released anything big yet, we're still waiting for The Coalition, Rockstar, Naughty Dog to wow us.

Never believe your own propaganda. Just like never get high off your own supply.

The ceiling for windows devices is roughly 90 million every quarter. AMD wants its Xbox APUs taking a yuuuuuge chunk of those devices.

MS and OEMs are doing BOTH Xbox PCs and Xbox Consoles.

Elder Scrolls VI
Witcher 4
GTA VI
Ratchet and Clank
Resident Evil Re-Remake
Resident Evil X
Final Fantasy XVII
System Shock 3
Stellar Blade 2
Space Marine 3

They explicitly stated that since June 18th.

Xbox Ally is just a stop gap measure, only the next gen hardware used for windows handhelds will have Xbox Console library BC and compatibility.

An "Xbox PC" is a PC running on Xbox designed AMD APUs with Xbox console library BC. They have started using "Xbox on PC" branding for the Xbox app on PCs. To differentiate the software side from the hardware.

Non AMD APU PCs from other vendors will be status quo mostly. They could get the Xbox full screen experience but will have to rely on Play Anywhere for Xbox ecosystem. It's the "Xbox PCs" that will have the unique converged Windows and Xbox OS. It's a hardware based universal Xbox platform.

A Console will still act as a console, and likely no Desktop Mode or File System Access, and probably cheaper than Xbox PCs.

MS and OEMs are doing a family of devices in 5 form factors at least:

Xbox PCs
Xbox Laptops
Xbox Consoles
Xbox Handhelds
Xbox Cloud

All devices are meant to run the AMD APUs and have third party store access along with Console library BC/compatibility. That is what will separate them from regular PCs. It's an entirely new subset of PCs.

The Xbox hybrid Console basically wipes out any chances for a SteamOS console.
Nah man Valve is 100% going to step into the living room with SteamOS, and they'll do good.

I'm spot on the target audience for all that. So I'll be checking it all out I imagine, in one way or another. Exciting times ahead!
First test is the "stop gap" Xbox Ally X. Never had a Windows handheld before so it'll be interesting to check that out, I plan to preorder asap.

That's way more detailed info than I've heard before. Xbox Laptops? And I don't quite understand how they can have PC stores and hardware based console bc at the same time. Seems like a messy scenario to uphold full compatibility of both PC and console both from a hardware and software perspective.
And you mean that if Rockstar is holding off the PC release of GTA for a year then someone with that Xbox PC can still play it through the Xbox bc silicone of that new AMD APU?

No console device will ever succeed without FortNite, COD, Battlefield, Madden NFL, EA FC, and GTA6. SteamOS is basically dead once MS executes their strategy.

MS is doing open Platform, meaning even Sony PC store could be on Xbox hardware if Sony wanted.

This is end game convergence. Certain big publishers didn't allow MS to merge Xbox Consoles and Xbox on PC libraries completely, so MS had to rely on Play Anywhere, xCloud, Gamepass contracts, major acquisitions in order to support Xbox on PC. But with a hardware based universal platform, they can finally start to create the complete ecosystem they always wanted. Xbox Everywhere.

Plus Xbox Mobile Store too since Google lost their antitrust case twice.

I think Wolverine is a title for next year. It won't launch alongside the new generation, but it'll probably get a later version with some upgrades for whatever features the PS6 ends up having.

I'd add Physint (Kojima's new game) as a first-year PS6 title. I feel like Sony has big plans for the future of PlayStation with this one.
